Hmmmmmm? What game should I play? Skyrim or The witcher 3? What's your preference?**
Skyrim or The witcher 3?

Sea of Thieves. lol
Witcher is way more deep. Both have great mods.
@ve111a I agree. I love the witcher 3 for being deep. Can't say anything about mods with the witcher 3 though, I don't have a PC. Skyrim is great because it provides mods on console which also provide infinite amounts of play time, that's probably why it is more popular, not better, just more popular.

SKYRIM!!!!
Well I think that's a low blow, Sir! Each to his own.
I'm only giving you a hard time :) You'll always be one of my favorites.
@britishtwin-one Yarr 'tis a tough question that.
Skyrim has a certain depth and charm that's hard to find elsewhere, but the Witcher is just a far richer game in almost every aspect.
Skyrim is an all-you-can-eat buffet; There's lots of it, and something for everyone.
Witcher is the a la carte menu at a Gordon Ramsay restaurant; Not as much as Skyrim, but what's there is always better.
@personalc0ffee Hearts of stone is better in terms of story but Blood and wine in terms of content. Gotta admit I liked hearts of stone better, because it had one best villains I've seen in video games as well as the compelling, interesting and mysterious story.
@britishtwin-one as some one who couldnt stand the witcher and hasnt finished the game.... SKYRIM always, if you get the cool mods for graphics overhaul it becomes 200% better than the witcher for me. sorry
@lord-danielw There's something you don't see often. If you don't mind me asking; Why didn't you like it?
The Witcher 3 hands down.
@BritishTwin-One I think that Heart of Stone is way better than the base game xD@tundra-793 I couldn't keep going with the story, there is too many side quest and before I know it I was killing a werewolf that wasn't important on the main quest. Also the third person didn't help me. I prefer the first person and UI of skyrim plus the ambient music, textures etc. I wanna finish the Witcher just because it was too much money haahhhahahaha I can't pick it up.
@lord-danielw Yeah I get that, it's a huge undertaking when you just jump right into it.
But if you can power through it, get caught up on the story and lore, its one of the greatest games of all time from start to finish.Best advice; Power through Witcher 2, and keep a tab open to the Witcher Wikia, then start fresh in Witcher 3. The mythology, stories and lore are actually really interesting, if you're into fantasy.
Witcher 1 I hear is just damn near unplayable by most modern gamer standards.
@britishtwin-one Skyrim is a c****y game made by a c****y company that is only held up by it's modding community(which is one of the best tbf). Witcher is an amazing game made by a great company.
Skyrim has not aged well, although it has some nice scenery but it also has the usual Bethesda stuff in it.
Witcher 3 is a masterpiece but sometimes a bit too hard to follow, if you don't know that much about the Witcher's story or haven't read the books (which are OK, nothing groundbreaking but nice to read).
Nevertheless, the Witcher 3 would be my winner. It's very immersive, touches on various real life issues without making it too obvious and the twists and turns will sometimes leave you with an open mouth and a blank stare. And it looks f*****g awesome!
Edit: There is also a whole lot of s******g going on in The Witcher 3. Na'mean?

Meh! I play video games to get away from "real life issues" as you put it. I don't see real life issues in any game at all, I see fun and fantasy. However, Skyrim for me. It doesn't touch on "real life issues".
However, over those two choices of the OP I would choose Ark Survival. However, that may change when Red Dead 2 comes out.
@myrm But isn't the underlining theme of Skyrim all about trade wars and a power struggle between different factions? That's some rl stuff right there.
But to give Skyrim some credit: It does have Jarl Balgruuf...

BS!! It's a video game. It's not real life. It's fantasy. Get a grip man! :-P

Yes, that reminds me; I was attacked by a werewolf on my way to IKEA the other day xD

@blooddoll22 I definitely had more fun and was more blown away from Skyrim :D both great though.
I dont even understand why OP is asking this, just play them both, you will not go astray with that path.Oh, I loved Skyrim too... like all things there is a certain element of taste that needs be met and for everyone those tastes will vary.
If I were to break down the games a bit.. I'd say Skyrim has what feel like, though may or may not be, a bigger and more robust world. There's a depth to Skyrim (in fact in most Bethesda offerings) that eludes a simple scan or single play-through. The variety of character options, narrow though they may seem at first... also provides unique experiences every time. There are the multitudes of secondary paths to explore as well.. shall I be a Vampire this time? Or a Werewolf? Or Neither? or Both? Do I dare become a sneaky assassin in the Brotherhood... or shall I be a straight up mage? The story bends based on these choices. Choices which can be ignored or explored later. It really feels so much more like a sandbox than it's default really expects. Many games are like that, but Skyrim seems to really hit the nail on the head in that realm. Let's not even bother to discuss mods.. which are both plentiful and can provide whole new experiences in the game... especially if played on PC.
The Witcher on the other hand hits the same nails regarding the sort of sandbox experience.. but not so hard. Instead it's really better tied to it's story. The lore and the value of that lore are detailed both in fantasy and in real world mythologies. There are many things to do that are off-script, so it is a sandbox, even if not as much as Skyrim, but that's not a selling point for the game. Instead the selling point are the characters. Pulled from novels, previous games, and similar aspects of the world, these characters though built from trope in most cases... are detailed in many ways. The bond one might built with any given character NPC is significant... I love the Bard... he is simply... outrageously entertaining to me.. trope laden to be sure.. but that's half the charm... The connection to real world mythology or interpretations of said myth are quite involving for me as well.. There's also a certain grittiness to the Witcher series that I love. Thankfully there are DLC offerings... because unlike Skyrim... once you've played through the main story of the Witcher.. it's beauty fades. It becomes less of a 'live in the world' title... and more of a fond memory, like a good book... you might re-read it but overall it remains on the shelf. Which in video game speak is bad... but in this case... feels right. It's not a game I'll be deleting from my HDD anytime soon... This style difference also allows for some better story telling in the Witcher series.. things actually matter.. sure Skyrim has depth and lore... but it gets lost in the "I'll do whatever I want.. even put a bucket on this guy's head and steal stuff"-ness of it all... With the Witcher... things matter.. I mean that earl and his poor Baby... that baby....
that...
baby...
omg... I need to take a shower...
So for me, The Witcher still wins hands down.
But don't be mislead... Skyrim won't fail to entertain... but Skyrim...you can play any number of games and it will feel like Skyrim. the Witcher is distinctly that... therein lies the biggest difference in value for me.
Let's not forget that there is a Witcher tabletop RPG for fans of that sort of game.. which is STILL in development... and may perpetually remain so sadly... they say it's close to release but it;s so very late and almost likely too late to be of value upon release... but there is that as well.
@blooddoll22 Yes. I think skyrim has a lot replay value because of the mods, the mods are so addictive, the fact they're on console is a instant sell for me, not PS4 though, they're not allowed external assets. Xbox has really great mods though as well as pc. I think witcher 3 does have replay value. There's that much content, you might even miss something on your tenth playthrough. I'm going to do a 5th playthrough soon on death march and plan to complete EVERYTHING!
@ant-heuser-kush I agree. But when you think you're ready, you're not. There's a lot to take in. To get more experienced, I'll just say it. Don't wanna sound like a (not allowed to put swear words in). There's this video on YouTube, it is titled "How to enjoy the witcher 3 without giving up", sounds like advertising but it isn't. The guy explains everything very well. He's the one that actually made me understand what to do and I did and it's now my favourite game of all time. I can't even remember the guy's name but it's genuinely a good video you should watch if you plan on playing the witcher 3.
@Ant-Heuser-Kush You sound exactly to the letter what I sounded when I couldn't get into it. I have also never played another witcher game besides witcher 3. I know the combat is different to the other games though. I did have to power though the first part of the game but it was just well, boring. As you start in the next region of the game(you get there in a about 1-2 hours), you will get more into the story.
They are both great games so either of which will send you down a rabbit hole of at least 100hrs lol.
My personal opinion though is to choose the Witcher, but play the Witcher 2 first if you haven't. At first I couldn't get into them due to the third person and unfamiliar controls, but my younger brother kept pestering me to play and it wasn't until after he passed away, I decided to pick up the series and find out why it was his favorite. It took me about 200 hrs to get through both (I do alot of side quests), but definitely by the end I just wished I had picked it up earlier so I could have discussed with him why it's also my favorite game.
There's something about the atmosphere and the lore, it just completely immerses you into the world and you catch yourself randomly saying things like "when I have a son, I'll name him Geralt", or admiring the beauty of the sun hitting the Skellige mountains, or the quests that actually have you emotionally invested.
And I really don't mean to sound bias, I loved the Elder Scrolls (I started them by playing Morrowind - R.I.P. 30min load screens), I just REALLY loved playing the Witcher series.

Which is a shame, TW1's graphics and mechanics are outdated, but it's better than TW2 in many things.
