Alliance Building - multicrew - New handshake mechanic

  • So, I just had an eureka moment as to how to impliment alliances into the game so that crews can cooperate with each other to do quests, voyages, or even form an armada.

    Introduce the handshake!

We now have the hand-off mechanic.. what if when you use it.. it give you the ability in your menu to turn off friendly fire for that person!

If two captains shake hands, or parlay by exchanging an item.. then they can then put up for a vote to link the crews and turn off friendly fire for the crews.

Now, it wouldn't be able help against ship to ship attacks... maybe even making it so a ship to ship attack would cancel the truce. (It does detect which person fired a connecting shot due to the sound queue, so it is possible)

It would be a nice use of the brig.. say if someone broke the truce and went against the crew.

Any person could go back into their menu and turn off the truce at any time and still allow the backstabbing to take place.. I don't want to see that go away.. maybe a little note that said.. player1 ended your truce..

I mean, you can still surprise attack and shoot them at the same moment to kill..

But it would open up a whole new avenue of maybe splitting turned in items between the crews.. the ability to run multiple voyages at once with a large armada.

What do you think? Anyone have anything else to add?

  • 2 thumbs up! I had a similar idea that was like how alliances are formed in the S.O.S game, which was a high 5. But mine wasn’t as well thought out as yours. Mine was if anyone decides to break the alliance they didn’t get any of the turned in loot/rewards.

  • Awesome idea. Would definitely help teams distinguish between friend or foe. And being able to share rewards across crews would make Skeleton Forts a little more collaborative rather than the Us vs Everyone Else mentality thats the most prevalent.
There would have to be a limit to how many crews can link up to avoid making this too OP / gamebreaking. We are pirates after all.

  • Its a good ideia to fuse crews, but
I think it will not resolve the big problem. Some times its realy hard to find someone wiling to join us/help us, and you will need to find them to handshake. First We need a way to find crews and them your ideia will work very well.

  • @nanatyl5d I'm not sure how a LFG feature would work for opposing ships... I see it being abused and not for the intended purpose.

Think someone to use it to lure in unsuspecting ships. At least with the flag system you can chalk it up to people not understanding the flags. I think a beacon system wouldn't help find friendly crews.

  • Like the idea and hope that RARE will consider it!

  • @puck269 I love this! It's a great way to incorporate the handshake animation aspect to it as to not break the immersion either! I think this fits the setting and atmosphere of the game really well

  • Good shout

  • I like it!
