Level 40 merchant and I get this..

  • I'm level 43 merchant alliance and what do I get all day.. these kinds of quests:'

My friend, level 20, gets this one:

This is very inconsistent and a big flaw in the leveling in my opinion.. I get that it's RNG, but this isn't 1 time, I got these kind of trash quests the entire day.

I want Rare to fix this, the difference between quests is abnormal. Some people get a quest with 5 golden animals, some get those quests like mine. If I'm level 43 with merchant I expect a certain minimal quality of the items I should transport.

You wouldn't ask a CEO to get coffee for everyone. Same thing applies here.

  • @dyornos Awwww no :(

It's random and based on luck... nothing else. Maybe borrow your friends gold chicken as a lucky charm?

My level 45 quests were a lot better than the 40 ones... I had the same kind of luck you're having... keep at it! Your luck will change!

  • RNG my dude :/ scrap voyage and try again! Dont worry when you land a good one the amount of money you tossed to scrap will be made up and then some with how much you'll get in the better voyage.

  • I did retry alot, but I keep getting these kinds of quests. Doesn't make sense :\

  • @dyornos One of my last level 49 quests was for one or two black chickens from plunder to daggertooth or something odd like that... just wasn't right... so kept cancelling until I have a 5/6 gold chicken quest...

  • I agree that this is just a stupid design decision. In what other game would you run missions like this? It's completely pointless and really makes no sense. Voyages should be level based, end of story. No luck should be involved.

  • I can’t believe your level 40. You always grab 3 at a time and just keep dropping and deleting til you get what you want!

A little bit is fine, like 3 or 4 goldens, but this is too extreme..

  • im same lvl. just cancel the quest and start a new one till you get what you want. you will get a 3 gold chicken 1 black chicken no prob

  • @norloc said in Level 40 merchant and I get this..:

Cancelling quests until you have one that's worth doing doesn't sound like good game design to me. Hope they tweak this..

  • @dyornos keep in mind that missions are rolled based on the overall, average level of your crew.

Apart from that I (lvl50) get missions like "One powder barrel".
    So?
    Win some, lose some.

  • I think the voyages having RNG is so that you get that nice feeling when you get a voyage for 6 golden chickens an 3 black snakes etc. If you always knew what the voyages would have you'd never get a nice suprise like that.

I agree that the higher your level the better your voyages should be but I like a bit of randomness.

Generally since repping up to 50 and the changes to voyage RNG I've been getting better voyages across the board. Had a 12k MA voyage just last week!

Maybe Rare need to have another look at the RNG to make sure you get fewer voyages like that at your level but I still think we should get less favourable voyages from time to time at any level just to make the good voyages that drop taste a bit sweeter.

I don't mind cancelling some quests, but getting those bad quests all the time, having to log in and out and keep repeating and still getting nothing is flat out irritating.

The whole idea of being high level or legend was ''bringing those higher level voyages. And everyone will be like, yeah we want to do your voyages!''. I'm not seeing that if the RNG on this is so absurd. A level 50 can put down a quest for a white chicken and a red spreckled. C'mon, thats just sad.

  • @ant-heuser-kush Yes but you're talking about quantity, I'm talking about the quality of the items. I don't mind having a difference between quantity, but sometimes I'm doing a 4 riddle line quest for 1 seafarer chest. While I'm 46 with goldhoarders..

  • @dyornos said in Level 40 merchant and I get this..:

A level 50 can put down a quest for a white chicken and a red spreckled.

    No, he can't.
    This is just not true.

Level 50 missions sport the following items:
I dropped 42 missions yesterday, not a single tier 1 or tier 2 animal was on that list.

    • Pigs, golden and black
    • Snakes, golden and black
    • Chicken, golden and black
    • Powder Kegs

So unless you are 45+, you will have tier 2 animals in your list.
The level-40-bracket allows animals of tiers 2, 3 and 4.
Which is exactly what your screenshot shows.

    And I repeat again:
It's the overall level of your crew that determines the roll, not the level of the mission alone.
So if I pair up with a level 1 merchant, I will be getting low tier stuff as well.

  • @ant-heuser-kush Easy, just go with a low level person if you really want the commedation. Still a stupid thing you get low level stuff on high rankings.

  • @dyornos said in Level 40 merchant and I get this..:

    WHICH....
    YOU....
    DON'T....
    GET!!!

  • @lefaux2 Still think this is a huge flaw. If I'm high level, I should not be dragged down by the crew I choose to sail with. And given the huge grind, it would not matter if low level people get high quest rewards. You're still at risk of having it all captured because you're sailing with inexperienced people.

All I want is for Rare to tweak the RNG on these quests. Don't give me no goldens as minimum and 6 at max, make that difference smaller. Some more consistency.

  • @lefaux2 YES.I.DO. Look at the image, that's low level stuff.

You are not. It's a myth that crew level has anything to do with it. I was crewed with a brand new player the other night doing level 50 OoS - got hateful and villainous every single skull. Dude must have gone up about 10 levels.

  • @dyornos said in Level 40 merchant and I get this..:

@lefaux2 YES.I.DO. Look at the image, that's low level stuff.

ok, so you have NO clue what you are talking about.

    Here's the tiers:
    TIER 1

    • White Chicken
    • Red Snake
    • Pink Pig

    TIER 2

    • Red Chicken
    • Blue Snake
    • Pink/black spotted Pig

    TIER 3

    • Black Chicken
    • Black Snake
    • Black Pig

    TIER 4 (aka E N D G A M E)

    • Golden Chicken
    • Golden Snake
    • Golden Pig

Then there are 10 tiers of leveling, you are level 43, which is tier 8.
You are not supposed to ONLY get golden stuff, because there's no difference to level 50 players
Level 50 players get tiers 3 and 4.
You're not level 50, so you get tiers 2 and 3, simple as that.

Don't try to argue math, you'll lose :)

Obviously it's you who doesn't know what you are talking about. My level 20 merchant friend got 2 goldens and 2 blacks. That should be endgame according to you? Yeah, don't argue pictures, you'll lose :)

Out of how many voyages does your dataset consist?
We run stats with over 1000 voyages across discord.
Your level 20 friend draws those every single time?
And if you're on your own, how often do you have tier 1 things in there?

  • @lefaux2 ALL DAY. Read the post please before arguing. I get too many low tier stuff for my level, and yes my friend gets those more often than I do.

  • @dyornos said in Level 40 merchant and I get this..:

Your friend shall add me on XBOX.
I want to see for myself that every single voyage (that's the important part) he gets on his own has tiers 3 and 4 items in them.
As you see, he's getting tier 1 goods as well.
This is because the level defines the lower bound of what you get.
This means that you can get higher tier goods, but you cannot go down a tier.

And also please answer my questions to their full extend.
How often do you get a tier 1 item when you are alone?
Also here: add me on XBOX, put down a voyage, tell me to join the game (so we don't fiddle with the overall crew level).
I'm interested to see the tier 1 goods you should collect.

  • 2 black chicken is pretty high level actually. Even on legendary voyages you still get lots of blacks.

So being level 40 and getting 2 blacks 2 red is totally normal and expected. Level 40 is basically half way to 50.

  • @lefaux2 Yeah we are not going to do that. I already provided pictures, and what you seem to miss is the fact that the minimum should be increased overal, as well as the average quality of high level voyages. You can have stats all you want, this is how it went for me yesterday and at other random days.

  • I remember when I hit 35 with gold hoarders, bought my first voyage, placed it aaaaand... one riddle. OK, let's go again. Aaaaand... one riddle. OK, again. Aaaaaand, two riddles. Tough luck ;).

Any idea how long it takes to get to 50 if you only turn in blacks? Even with golds the grind is real :p

Finally level up! Can't wait for my improved voyages! Oh wait.. (Got that same feeling)

  • @dyornos
From what I heard from legendaries in my clan the difference between levels voyage wise is largest with OoS, then hoarders and then merchants. Merchants wise it doesn't matter, just drop the voyage, see what happens. I did some on a galleon and we went through 6 lev 50 and 3 lev 45. Then I dropped my 25 and it was something like 2 or 3 golds. Doesn't seem right to me at all.

  • @dyornos said in Level 40 merchant and I get this..:

@lefaux2 Yeah we are not going to do that.

    oh, chickening out?
    I expected that.

    I already provided pictures,

yeah. A dataset of two. That's reliable, empiric evidence lol

and what you seem to miss is the fact that the minimum should be increased overal, as well as the average quality of high level voyages.

ok, so why don't you just say what you really mean:
I want the game to hand me free stuff so I can level faster.

You can have stats all you want, this is how it went for me yesterday and at other random days.

ok, so your 2 images overrule my data of more than 1000 voyages.
    Good luck with your claim.
Spoiler: it's not going to change, so you can keep whining up until level 50 :D

  • @lefaux2

    oh, chickening out?
    I expected that.

No, you just can't believe other data as the one you claim to have. And you telling me to add you, I don't respond to people trying to give commands. Your mom never taught you to ask?

yeah. A dataset of two. That's reliable, empiric evidence lol

Yes its how my personal experience is. Get that through your thick skull :)

ok, so why don't you just say what you really mean:
I want the game to hand me free stuff so I can level faster.

Not at all, that would make the game boring. I just want there to be a increasing amount of rewards, not feeling like a level 1 merchant when I set sail as a level 50.

ok, so your 2 images overrule my data of more than 1000 voyages.

You claim to have this data, and even if you have it, still doesn't change the fact that there are people who experience different outcomes. I'm not whining about the issue, I'm bringing it up in the hope they will fix it. If you're fine with the system how it is, than leave this thread and play the game kid.

45-50 was about 10 hours if you play it smart.

OR! Rare could scale their game properly and cut out the middleman workarounds. As it stands, there is ZERO incentive to complete a single voyage. Ever.
That is a definite design flaw.
