The press are now stating that forced crossplay isn't the best thing since sliced bread!!
Is crossplay fair?? Windows Central doesn't seem to think so either!!
@logansdadtoo I dont get all the hate.
Sure its sometimes harder, but make teams with pc players and you'll be fine.lets take them in! not shun them!
@lucky-monkee
The hate comes from imbalance & being told over & over that the advantages are minimal. That may be the case, but a minimal advantage is still an advantage. If parity is not possible between the formats then the only other option is an option to disable the feature.I've had this discussion hundreds of times already. I am not totally against crossplay as a lot of my SOT friends are pc players, but for when i sail alone i want to know that if i die/sink it was down to skill or a mistake, not because my opponent could turn & aim quicker than me due to their input device choice!
@logansdadtoo the argument is also like saying the following
"I cant win against everyone, but i can blame it on something and it will be easy to point my fingers to. so there for i dont have to get better, i just have to say its because of this."Sorry pal. Get a better argument with a strong standpoint and counter-argument to.

RARE & MS take note, i'm sure they'll be lots more crossplay discussions coming (especially now i'm coming back to the forums ;) )very good article. actually the crossplay is a great idea on most games. but it is true that on phase of fast fight as in SOT the fps with the mouse will be much more effective compared to the players xbox. Nevertheless, the SOT crossplay remains a good thing and makes it possible to have a much bigger community!
the riders will get bored and move on to another game, and the players who live and play the game will start to write beautiful pages of piracy and cooperation with future updates.I posted a lengthy rant on the forums and it was locked. They have to stop the crossplay or make it optional.
We consolers pay for our online experience through Live and I believe firmly that we have a say. They experimented with it and it doesn't work. FPS games won't work with forced crossplay unless MS comes out with native M+KB support and even then I wouldn't want to turn my console into a PC and sit behind a desk so that's a separate dilemma.
I agree.
Had an XBOX player on my crew yesterday. He was horrible.
No understanding of base mechanics (even though stating the opposite), no situational awareness, managed to sink our own galleon because of one (in numbers: 1) hole while the other three were boarding and his job was to keep circling back to us.Crossplay IS horrible.
@onyx-wartooth
I suggest you take a look at something called 'the internet'.
This wonderful place is full of information just waiting to be found! If you go on a search engine like Google & type in kb+m vs controller you will find thousands of links to thousands of sites all with information as to why a kb+m is a superior input device to a controller, there have even been some studies done on the subject.
Why don't you give us your reasons as to why crossplay should be kept as forced?
I really need a good laugh!@ant-heuser-kush
Crossplay is great for playing against new people, & i'm glad you don't care about the advantages, but many of us do!
Crossplay being forced is just not right, especially when it affects a majority of the playerbase.
If crossplay has to be forced, then all users should be forced to use the same input device then we have parity!@jmftgtav said in Stop the pc Xbox cross:
If you really want to change the current situation of forced cross play do this.
Go to Xbox store, click on SOT, you will see a tab to "report game", Click!
I chose to report the game as misleading.
Rare doesn't disclose that cross play is forced.
Xbox customers have a reasonable expectation of fair gameplay.
Rare has failed to provide fair gameplay between PC and Xbox players.
Down with forced cross play!
Great article, you see it actually says crossplay is good because it brings people together.
Sea of Thieves isnt a competative game. You're not earning a gold or silver ranking on leaderboards you're not competing in a capture the flag one off thing. This isnt overwatch or Counterstrike where such an advantage would actually matter for competative reasons.
Sure there is an advantage but there's already so much going into this, where do you draw the line. Are you going to make a seperate option for X-box one X players because they have higher FPS?
X-Box one players with a pro controller for their button layouts and triggers?
X-Box one players with peripials that make KB-M support possible?I love crossplay for the fact that it lets me see actual people in game and play with friends who are on X-box not because it gives me an advantage.
If I had an X-box I'd even play on that more then on PC because of laid back sailing on the couch. If the disadvantage bothers you this badly why not install it on your PC? I literally don't know anyone who doesn't have a PC that can run SoT.

what is the relationship with the crossplay? for once the quality of the player is completely independent of the support ... you will have equally useless players on pc ...
@jmftgtav Of course, because we all know internet connections are all equally good and stable, having a mic isn't an advantage at all, elite controller are just for style, XIM doesn't exist and TV-screens have no impact too. Did I forget something?
@jmftgtav Great idea. So glad someone has figured out an effective way of getting our voices heard in stead of wasting our breath complaining on a PC-based forum.

Maybe he was new. Maybe just wasn’t very good at games. The reason I say this, is because last night I was on a crew with Xbox players. Believe me when I tell you these players had no trouble controlling the game. And by controlling, I mean dominating. We took a skull fort. We sank at least three galleons and a couple sloops who tried to muscle in on the fort. My crew was having none of that. If they were at any kind of disadvantage, I sure couldn’t see it.

Thank you, that's exactly my point.
So yes, we (PC Players) turn faster, which is irrelevant 96% of the game (cannons don't turn faster, ships don't turn faster, we don't repair faster).
Apart from that I as a PC player with a rather decent rig feel constantly "discriminated" (for lack of a better term) against.
Loading times on a M5 SSD stripeset are ridiculous.
Framerates are ridiculous (60FPS lock because 144 FPS results in massive tearing).
LOD is indisputably horrible (running double 1080ti seems pointless).
And all that so the XBOX players are not "disadvantaged".
Still, somebody needs to explain to me how high-res textures over a bigger distance puts me into an advantage.
I still need to sail to you, so what's the point? In terms is visual fidelity PC players are massively ganked already as it is (which seems to be a topic nobody talks about).

You seem to be missing what hes saying. It doesnt matter how gud he gets, he still wont be able to turn and aim as well as PC. I'd say thats a pretty solid point tbh.
@ant-heuser-kush said in Is crossplay fair?? Windows Central doesn't seem to think so either!!:
They better give us a display filter... Because people playing on Xbox One X with compatible VRR monitors will have an advantage over people who play on large TV screens with HDR.
That might help you see a shipwreck 5 seconds earlier. Care to explain how it changes CQC?
Maybe and that is a big Maybe in a game like COD or Smite or something where split second decisions make or break you PC players have an edge but in something like SoT where it basically comes down to resource management and strategy having a mouse and keyboard setup make no difference. If you think that the literally .05 milliseconds advantage a PC player has over you makes a difference and that is the reason you are losing than maybe you need to do some OoS missions and brush up on your pistol/blunder work. I run with mostly PC crews in my discord group and I don't have any issue keeping pace with them as far as staying alive and my ability to PVP. If you are having an issue with crossplay I have some sad news for you. In about 5 years everything under the sun will be crossplay. Even COD. So get used to it my friend.
@ant-heuser-kush thanks for the info, very useful. Ive got a KS8000, i might go check that out. Cheers
edit: yup already on game mode@lefaux2 it's the input devices and agility that we're not happy about. Console characters move, turn and shoot slower. You have to experience being boarded by pc players while on console to actually know what we are talking about. It's like they are playing a different game.
@ant-heuser-kush so i just noticed, when i start a HDR game, the TV changes to HDR by itself while still in 'game mode'. Do you think its worth turning HDR off manually?
Damn this talk about crossplay!! U all knew from the beginning that this was crossplay! U did start play the game and knew it was crossplay!
Im a pc player and get killed by Xbox players! My crew is Xbox players and they wreck everything even pc players that comes in there way!
So plz all blamers! Step up your gameplay and stop pointing fingers because of bad gameplay!
I love crossplay just because i can play with all My friends i have on Xbox and we have alot of fun! Sometimes we loose and sometimes we win!
@sanni said in Is crossplay fair?? Windows Central doesn't seem to think so either!!:
Where exactly is your unfixable PC vs. Console disparity???
I assume it's in each and every single fight people lost.
I almost forgot that after every fight I lose I sail back to the winning ship and ask them which setup they use (XBOX, PC, Mouse, Keyboard, Controller).
This is how I turn my ASSUPMTIONS into FACTS, you know?Crossplay isn't the issue, I got owned by XBOX players.
The difference is that I have the courage to project defeat onto myself instead of blaming "the world (tm)"@ant-heuser-kush said in Is crossplay fair?? Windows Central doesn't seem to think so either!!:
I bet you at least 50% of those fights lost were due to display settings. You'd be surprised how many console gamers do not know about game mode.
I'm a PC guy, but can you explain "game mode" to me in simple terms?
Why crossplay between PC and Xbox One may not be fair to everyone
