I think Rare needs to take a ticket from Blizzard and many other game companies out there that keep players interested in online Gaming. Especially world games like this.
The Meglodon was fun but it was also a one and done sort of thing. I've defeated the beast Twice to help a friend accomplish the task but really there's no motivation to continue fighting it. Also the Kraken was a cool concept but once you encounter it, you realize how little a threat it is. That's OK though It's an obstacle in the game that you encounter randomly in the world. Sadly though that makes you have 2 amazing features in the game have so little effect in it over all. The Kraken and The Meg IMO are some of the most interesting parts of the game.
So let's reuse them:
I'm suggesting things like the weekly content might uncover harder versions of the Kraken and the Meg. They might introduce phases to the Monsters as well where the crew must react a certain way. I'll go over a design scenario I am thinking about.
The Kraken's Lair:
-Lore: The Kraken's beem roaming these seas for nigh a century now and little is known about'im. Pirates and Rogues who roam these seas often fall to the kraken's whim. Legends have died and drunkards have perished and few survive to tell of thee. Ol' Scalley there tells his tale after over the rim ol his mug.
-Quest Mechanic:
- Talk to Bilge Rat He says maybe you should talk to this other NPC found somewhere else
- Talk to NPC Discover something interesting about it (Provide motivation on why you want to do this quest)
- At this point to make this quest specific you get pointed towards a merfolk who saved the Previous NPC
- In some cryptic way he points to you a mechanic that would trigger the scene (How about a music box you can pick up and put down and move and you can turn the crank. ) This plays the siren's song or something
- At this point you have the magic box you get one last clue telling you where you might want to go. to trigger the enounter.
- At this point you summon a kraken and it's way harder, way angrier (for some lore reason, maybe you found where it lives (Aka the Kraken's Liar!) (I also think these recycled encounters should be harder than the meglodon even! I want to create a real scarcity for the item you get as a reward. I love the idea of scars but I think Scars are not visible enough. in my wildest dreams I'd want it to be like all the railings on the ship are now carved tentacles)
- There are phases to the Event. Crews have to do things like pull the ship away or avoid a devastating attack that has build up to it. Maybe even have a vulnerable phase. (I'm emphasizing though that I want this to be hard and challenging I want people to fail this almost always on their first attempt)
- Any number of people/ ships can attempt to help beat the kraken.
- The kraken then drops a unique token/currency (x amount of them too that can be fought over by the pirates or shared among crews)
- You turn these Tokens into the NPC that told you about the kraken and he will also be your vendor for unique Kraken Cosmetics
(things people will complain about )
- the kraken currency can be stolen after all of that hard work. -- It's part of the game bro
- NPC camping -- This is similiar to the above but it's a choke point where everyone knows you have to go eventually so I think I might need a better way to turn this sort of currency in. Perhaps the Vendor can just be any Order of souls merchant since they deal with combat stuff?
