Alright, lets start with the good. What make this game better by this new content update from my personal opinion.
- Speaking Trumpet
Finally a way to talk to people from a far distance, definitely a quality of life improvement and a way to improve overall gameplay. It not only adds a social aspect, but stops the need to jump off a ship to speak with people at a distance. - Megalodon
Boss fights are always fun.
And that's about it when it comes to improving the game in a meaningful way. I'll get back to why I really didn't care for the rest of the added features, but first let me tell you what I expected instead for this recent "big" patch which I believe would of greatly improved the game.
- Harpoon - Is on every boat. It can be shot and attached to other ships or be used to catch fish. When a harpoon is attached to another ship, players can use a sword to cut the harpoon from it. A harpoon would be unusable for period of time if it's been cut. If a harpoon is attached to a ship, your ship will drag onto it. Maybe harpooning too many sharks could spawn the Megalodon?
- Cooking - Using fish meat, we could go to the kitchen and cook up some food to store in our food barrel. Catching fish isn't easy nor are fish abundant in the ocean, so it would be balanced. Maybe you would also have to get other ingredients from islands in order to cook food.
- Fire - Not paying attention to your food can catch your kitchen on fire, would require buckets to put it out. Fire can then be used for future content as means for PvP and PvE. In order to get water, maybe you could get it from the toilet or the kitchen sink or both. (Toilet water and sink water would not fill up your boat with water.)
- New faction - A faction that's meant for fishing with a harpoon and also cooking. Players would go in the sea, shoot sharks and possibly new types of fish and sell meat and foods to this new faction.
This would of improved the game and changed it. It would of gave us more hours of gameplay for us to be ready for the next big patch. Unfortunately, this recent update did the opposite, we did not get really not much of anything. Nothing else really really improved gameplay at all, it's straight up generic or otherwise pointless. Sure, some things can be situational like setting a flag, but really, people just use trumpets instead and avoid the flag entirely for the most part. The "new event" is also go here and there. It's so unbelievably bland and so poorly executed. To think we would of at least had some menu or something for the quest, nope. Not only that, but I literally completed this whole thing in less than a few hours. The only reason it took so long, is because of the sailing going from point A to point B. Otherwise it's literally less than 30 minutes of a campaign with nothing besides doing fetching quests as if we don't do that enough already! This is frankly, embarrassing and a disgrace.
I would call these features fillers. They're nice, but they do nothing to make you continue playing a game that has absolutely no replayability already. For example, the drum is cool for about a minute and then you're back to doing the same thing over and over. There is no reason to PvP or PvE because the mechanics of the game are almost nonexistent. Being a legend means nothing, your cosmetics mean nothing, and killing players gives you nothing. There is NO reason to play this game. I worry that people will purchase or try this game again after a patch like this, you are only destroying what's left of the game. I mean really, two months for a 30 minute poorly executed campaign and filler features? Unbelievable.
