Megalodon

  • So, I've spent the entire evening doing the Hungering Deep quests, looking forward to face the megalodon, but you have to be at least 5 people to fight it, and I couldn't find them. My teammate and I have looked for some ship everywhere, we also changed server twice, but the only crew who seemed to be interested in helping us, tried to destroy our ship before going to the megalodon. I'm quite disappointed, I really want to face the beast, but what if I can't find a friendly crew willing to help me? I also think it's neither normal nor funny spending hours just looking for some friendly crew.
I'm sorry if I'm just moaning haha, but it's almost 2am here and I'm tired and a bit tilted, because I finished the quests at midnight, so it took me 2 hours to NOT find someone for the megalodon.

  • @akunari06 if only there were lists of servers you could choose from 😕

  • @maquark yeah I agree with you. It would be nice to be able to join a server in which people have your same interests! I know Rare's trying to make us cooperate, but each server I join is quite empty.

  • You have plenty of time to find a friendly crew. If you start a galleon, all you need is one sloop to help you start the fight.

(Although if you get bad RNG and the storm comes during the fight you might as well leave... Stupid storm sank 3 galleons while fighting the mega.)

You'll find folks, it's not hard. Just gotta speak to them and be friendly :)

  • @mc-rossco I'm always friendly with the others, maybe I'm not lucky tonight. I hope I'll be luckier tomorrow.

  • @akunari06 those of us at work right now will all team up tonight lol there're plenty more who have yet to slay the beast. keep at it 😎

Oh we can't have that. That goes against Rare's "vision".

Some overarching delusion that they can force randoms into crews and servers willy-nilly and expect them to all play nicely.

The random crew part of that dream has died, even though their open crew selection still somehow (insanely) touts that option as the best way to play the game. It's really not.

This is by far the cruddiest sociology experiment I've ever been unethically roped into.

  • Hang in there. I got lucky and got in a server where everyone was cooperating. They do exist.

  • It took me quite a few hours to get a group together to do it as well but when you do make it happen, the fight is fun and worth it for the ship part I think :) I don't think I will be going thru all the hassle anytime soon or if ever to do it again tough tbh. Only going to see a second fight if I stumble into a group about to do it. Stinks there is no reward after the first kill.

  • i was chilling by a skull fort...on my sloop solo, and i saw a few galleons and sloops and i thought "oh their going to fight for the skull fort" so i sat there...watched...little did i know i was right by the spot where the megalodon spawns, so a pirate legend took my ship and i sat there saying...welp whatever happens happens. and they said to me...wanna fight the mega. and i said HELL YEA! then the awesome 12 crew fleet happened.

MORAL OF THE STORY: hang around T26...eventually there will be ships there, so just sail up and say im here to fight the mega!

  • My advice is, once you are done getting the drum from Merrick, leave the server and join a fresh one.

Whatever way this game works, I always find the servers empty over time and don't get filled in. So, by the time you have the drum, you could be in a relatively vacant server.

Once you join a new server, go and wait by Merrick and use the trumpet to announce to anyone coming by that you are friendly and you want to do the Meg fight.

It helps a lot to be in game chat. If you are lucky, you'll find some cool people. If not, give it some time and try again.

  • I have found all night that pointing our cannons sky high and rolling a white flag on the ship helped.

Just hang around shark bait too. Stand on your ship with the trumpet.

If you don't have a mic hold the trumpet and use the speaking emote function. There is an option that say's "we are friendly".

Spam the heck out of that.

  • Finding supportive crews is pure luck.
Hanging around Sharkbait Cove sounds like the best idea, maybe look at some spots of the mission too and offer support to other crews.

I personally will help to spawn the beast if someone asks or if i see someone heading towards the location and i can only encourage everyone else to do so, it's not much harm done unless you are on a merchant quest and run out of time.

  • Thank you guys for all the answers, today I'll try to switch more servers and hang around the mega zone and Shark Bait Cove. I hope it'll work because I really want to face it!

I actually split off from my crew to go join another crew and show them exactly where the second two journals were.

Thankfully, I marked the locations on their maps for them anyway and gave them some instructions, because I got killed when another galleon attacked and I ended up joining my own crew again.

Met the crew back at Merrick but they said they were doing the first part again for a friend who had joined since.

We told them okay, explained again how to get the drum, and told them to meet us at T26. Sadly, we didn't see them again as the fleet we had amassed was already getting set to sail from Merrick and we completed the fight relatively fast with 4 galleons.

Really hope they got their drums though and managed to get another few crews with them to fight Meg.

  • I've spent another entire evening (it's 1:15 am here right now) looking for some crew, I found one but they disappeared before starting the fight with the mega. I'm so tilted, I JUST WANT TO FACE AND KILL THE MEGALODON.

  • I agree. I really, really hope I'll find someone friendly before the event ends.

  • the biggest problem with needing 5 to start it is if you dont get it done on the first day your screwed because its going to be hard to find a crew willing to do it again. Rare should have thought about it alittle better maybe give a eward for completing it each time like gold.As 1 of my friends didnt do it yesterday so we heloped him today 3 servers we went too 1st was a galleon there thought great but they opened fire and we had to sink them 2nd server 2 sloop's fighting and 3rd server no one arround we carried the shanty stood there for 45 mins and gave up. other friends are camping T,26 to get pointless pvp give people a reward for killing the megalodon each time they complete it as its not an easy fight so 2k gold for each person that takes part in killing it and just maybe they won't camp the spot we shall sail together
