I think it would be awesome if your crew could choose a captain in the My Crew tab and whom evers captain may form alliances with other captains to form fleets that could be made up only 3 ships or you could pile on three ships worth of crew mates on one galleon. This would be a fun way to enter pvp with fleet battles it would also be helpful towards quests and all gold could be distributed between each alliance member.

@crabby-jack1990 Basic idea of the game: every pirate is equal. So voting for a captain doesn't match this idea at all.
You can still speak to your crew and declare someone as captain for your journey, but the game won't care.The fleets are a double-edged sword in my opinion.
It's nice to encourage teamwork over several ships, but the risk of a fleet just ruling the whole server is very high and this would ruin the game experience for everyone else on this server.@sirliborius said in Captains and fleets:

Of course it does, Every Pirate is still equal. They can all be voted Captain. It would be unequal if the game arbitrarily chose a captain.
Equality does not imply everyperson is the same othewise you could not choose your weapons, but that every person has the ability to make the same choice.
There are already fleets ruling the seas. My ship and 2 others banded together and effectively shared a Skull fort. We stood about taking screenshots as a group because we thought it was great.
Adding a system that makes this easier for players does not remove the premise, It simply makes it easier and more common.

Yes, they can do this already in the same way you can team up and just protect each other and do forts.Adding fleets as an official option would encourage both ways of using the fleet, which kind of fleet would be more common is anyones guess.
