Future Content | Hidden In Plain Sight

  • I'm sure most of you sea rats have noticed that the Order of Souls Vendor's building has a second floor with a boarded up door. This is without a doubt where the Potion Shop Vendor will be located once implemented.

Most of you may have thought this as well, and maybe this is even already known, but I ask you all if you've noticed a door or anything similar to this that you think has a possibility of being future content?

I know of the ancient ruins beneath the sea and in caverns and hope their purpose becomes interactive soon in a future update.

As of late, I've been trying to be more aware of my surroundings, like staring at a wall painting for an hour. One of my friends noticed a while ago on an Outpost an animal cage he says wasn't there before. I forget the name of the Outpost.. Maybe Sanctuary or Golden Sands, but we were all thinking it may be used for crabs and/or lobsters. I'd prefer crabs.

Let me know what you've been discovering in the Sea of Thieves.

  • I actually hope we get some aerial threats. Specifically the giant bird skeletons littered around the seas that fought the kraken(s). It may be a little windwaker-esque but just the thought of this giant bird swooping down during a galleon battle while you fire cannonballs towards it and the enemy ship sounds like a lot of fun.

Since I am always the one the Kraken grabs out of my crew I can imagine the bird would extend me the same courtesy and fly me around for an aerial view of the action.

  • A lot of those bird looking skeletons are actually Kraken skeletons, you can see this in the artbook. They show you what the Kraken actually looks like underwater and its skeleton concepts beside it and it is 100% identical to those scattered around the beaches currently in game.

  • @madrabbit999 Oh really? Did not know this! Cheers for the info.

Little disappointed haha, would have loved giant birds.

  • In the "potions shop" or whatever it is, it is possible in some outposts to get on the roof and look inside the building from a crack on the roof.
There, we can see that the back door has the same type of latch we can see in other stores.

The cavern exploration things they have confirmed in a video in the future will be rewarding exploring them.

The outpost of the cage is Golden sands, and it was always there, to me looks like monkey's cage but who can know what is made for

  • I have already see a crate bird for decorations on island and if my memory was good, i have see on official artbook, concept art for bat wings. The bat wings it’s an ingredient for potion recipe. But maybe all of that are juste concept idea :/
    (Sorry for bad English :/)

  • @grandmythic7 The tavern also has a second floor we can't go to. Maybe one day we can, would be cool.

And many people speculate that the other forts that aren't active are also going to hold future events or something.

On this one island where there is a partially sunken ship (Can't remember which island, but the crows nest of that ship stick out of the sea. It's very clear.) and in the last patch that ship got a name and there is a painting of the captain inside it's captains chamber. Can't remember the ship name though... But this wasn't there before the last patch.

  • For me the most obvious thing lying right under our eyes. Are the islands with no names. The ones with the coral and anchient underwater buildings and hidden underwater caves. Still with no real purpose and no treasure..... yet.
My guess is that this misterious world hidden deep underwater wil be a big part, if not the part, in 'The hungering deep'.

  • Thanks for the input and opinions!

@HruodbhertSasha I oughta parkour up onto the roof and peek into the Potion Shop. Didn't know you could! I'd love to see some aerial beasts like @MacDoland mentioned above. I know we'll see some new ones as pets, but hoping for new enemy AI. Maybe a swarm of undead bats or seagulls.

  • @yacantdutchthis I never noticed the second floor of the tavern. I oughta look up more.

  • @macdoland I have to disappoint you, but the "bird" skeletons are the krakens themselves :) See the link below: http://crewofthieves.com/sea-of-thieves-kraken-body-items-and-cosmetics-revealed/

    Much disappointment :)

  • I'm looking forward to seeing what's planned for the unused forts. I'm guessing they'll host some kind of event similar to the current skull forts.

  • The one thing I keep noticing in various places, like the tavern and the weapon shop is the very large Boar's Head skulls hanging on the wall. They look rather vicious, so maybe in the future, we will come face to face with these boars and have to hunt them, or collect them or something. Either way, I am certain they are going to put up a fight.

  • The paintings in the game tells a lot of it for sure, including new raids like giant crabs, a giant sea snake, a whale and so on like there's paintings of Kraken. There are some bird cages in the game which I believe will be possible to catch as well. This shows us that there will be a lot of more content in the game and I'm looking forward for it since I haven't been playing the game in about 2 weeks cus there's nothing new to do.

  • Re: giant birds. One of the islands (I think Plunder Valley?), tells the story of some sort of giant bird. It looks like the natives on that island treated the giant bird as some sort of god. The island itself has some rock formations that have bird-like features. So, the lore is there for a giant bird.

Re: uncharted islands: I am concerned that Forgotten Shores won't really be a new area per se; instead, it will be when Rare finally fleshes out the unnamed/unused islands with merfolk. That would be disappointing since those places will be relatively useless for a while if I am right.

Re: Outposts. It does look potion shops are already in place. Looking forward to some gameplay enhancement from those once the shop is open. There are some smaller kiosks on the outposts that look like they might be used in the future too. Finally, has anyone researched why some of the outposts have similar flags even though they are in different regions? I know I have seen an anchor flag and a knot flag on different islands. Anything else? This could be a sign that there will be factions to align with in the future.

  • I always look up at the tall pillar rocks around the center of the map. It's like they are all setup to have birds nest on those tall peaks.

  • Did some research tonight.

Each outpost has a flag associated with it:

    Ancient Spire Outpost - Anchor
    Plunder Outpost - Compass
    Golden Sands Outpost - Ship
    Sanctuary Outpost - Knot
    Daggertouth Outpost - Lighthouse
    Galleon's Grave Outpost - Anchor

The questions: (1) What do they mean? (2) Why do Ancient Spire and Galleon's Grave have the same flag? (3) Why are they the only outposts to have the same flag?

Since the flags line the main docks at the outposts, they appear to indicate ownership or control. I know, I know... "but the lore says there are no governments or civilized parts of the Sea of Thieves." Well, then why are the outposts organized enough to be unified under one banner? Certainly there is some civilized element to the Sea.

  • Also, confirmed that Plunder Valley is the big bird island.

  • @grandmythic7 the art from the sea of thieves book has concept art for crabs. In various colors. And the different effect of sea sicknesses like scurvy. So potions will be fun haha

  • Best post I’ve seen in a while! Good positive conversation!

  • @grandmythic7 Birds and bats are going to be a thing in the future. So are books, possibly potions as you mentioned. I'm sure there's going to be more sunken treasure hanging around.

  • Where is this whole "potion" concept coming from - people continue to bring it up in varied forms and I don't know where this meme spawned in the least. Is there a precedent? Or are people just spouting words from the depths of their imaginations?

Pet vendors... that makes sense to me - and seems to explain more of the anecdotes than "potions".

Not hating on this idea, I just don't get it's source?

  • @blooddoll22

No, I understand. I believe there's concept art of the Potion Shop within the Tales From the Sea of Thieves book, Rare has also mentioned it here and there. I remember reading somewhere on Reddit that during the alpha or beta you were able to actually walk into the shop, but has since been sealed.

It's definitely coming, just don't know when. Hopefully soon!

  • @grandmythic7

"I'm sure most of you sea rats have noticed that the Order of Souls Vendor's building has a second floor with a boarded up door. This is without a doubt where the Potion Shop Vendor will be located once implemented."

I have a feeling the potion shop will be used as the place where you can dye your clothes into whatever color you want, given the color you want is sold in the potion shop of course.

"Most of you may have thought this as well, and maybe this is even already known, but I ask you all if you've noticed a door or anything similar to this that you think has a possibility of being future content?"

The developers have been thinking about using the second floor of the tavern as a gambling club room or something of the sort, where you can play poker and betting games to earn gold.

    Nothing confirmed yet though.

"I know of the ancient ruins beneath the sea and in caverns and hope their purpose becomes interactive soon in a future update."

There's several Megathreads going regarding how to improve exploration... Nobody knows what specifically will happen, but those things will be used in future updates, that much is confirmed. :P

    "I'd prefer crabs."

Well, the latest teaser trailer for the hungering deep update does give a crab some screen time... Somehow people have gotten crab-hype from that. xD

I still think "Selling" the lore book is stupid. They should offer the "PDF only" online for free. This is the sort of item that needs to be open and on display! Any connection players have to the lore of the game deepens not only the experience - but the "content level" of the game, you know - the game wherein huge swaths of the population and media continue to report the lack of content?

Lore should be built in, entirely... extraneous sources of lore should be relegated to the super-fan, and collectors.

    Silly marketing dept...

Not that the BOOK itself should be free and i understand needing to recoup costs of print/authors/art etc... but let's get real. Which would have been more effective initially?

Putting a PDF out there for the world to see and enjoy as another form of advertisement to draw in the initial sales of the game, since it's mostly initial sales that pay the bills in games, or a book that only a low percentage of the likely already aligned customers will ever care to buy?

    Meh...

Thanks for the clarification! At least now I have a source in my mind when I stumble on these threads.

  • I saw on one of the islands in a cave. (Northwest I think) a painting of a huge shark and some pirates trying to spear it.

  • They also play mysterious music when you swim to the bottom of the sea...

  • @grandmythic7 I would like to point out that in the alpha, the top floor was the order of souls vendor. Where the OoS is currently located, did not exist in the alpha, it was just grass under the building.

  • Anyone notice Mermaids Hideaway actually has a large mermaids hideaway in it? LoL took me a long time before I actually explored and found that.

  • I seen that cage too!

  • @sweltering-nick

Whoa! Thanks for all the insight!

I can't wait for that second floor to be available. Maybe some card play, dice or a mix of both. Whatever the mini games are, I'm excited. We've seen cards and dice in this game already, could be a little tease of what's to come.

Ooh. I love this game and its community.
