Pirates Kings & Queens

  • I would like to see a SMALL leader board with only the top players , at the home menu which would give us the Kings and Queens of the sea .
The list would have to be small to make it important so we'll all know their names and they may get a special item or tag as long as they remain at the top of the board .
We could even get some extra rewards for playing with a king or Queen therefore extra initiative to protect them 😉
And top players would get some sort of celebrity status from the all community 😎.

I won't be a King but I would like to see who are the true rulers of Sea Of Thieves.

  • @vorticalmoney7 I really like this idea. It'd be great to log into the server and go over to some cork board where you can see who the king or queen is. Who knows maybe if you defeat this crew, bounty faction, you get a large sum of gold. Great idea!

Fair Winds and Calm Seas~Capn' Grad

  • @graduate4 yes a King or Queen chest if you defeat them that would create a cool challenge .

  • That would kind of suck to be constantly targeted if you were one of the leaderboard people in a sever and there was always a bounty on your head.

  • @vorticalmoney7 Although I haven't mention a King or Queen I have suggested a leader board in several threads. So of course I'm onboard with this.

Just gather stats like FPS games have done since before the turn of the millennium.
Games such as Counter Strike included a huge list of player ranked by kill / death ratios, head shots, shots to the torso, arm, leg, which weapon they used, etc.

SoT could also do the same plus ship battles won / lost.

This could all be tied in with an introduced PvP faction rep. Which would take a lot of the focus off the PvP v PvE encounters if done right.

  • @daddy-sanctus but your crew would protect you like never before due to the extra rewards they getting by been part of your crew 😉
So even so you a target you can even end up getting some alliance with some enemy crew because your crew could share some of their rewards .

  • @admiral-rrrsole my idea is not like the normal leader board that every game has but a much much more smaller leader board really including , let say a random number like 20 , the top players .
A small number create more meaning to me than a full list of EVERY players , I don't deserve to be in the leader board and I know it but I could be playing with a King or a Queen of Sea Of Thieves which would create a special game session for me.

  • I'm not interested in your Epeen.

I'm not even interested in my own.

Like I'm gonna look at some leaderboard at an outpost and see some gamertags and its supposed to mean anything. Yeah, real immersive. Real pirates. Yarr.
If I don't see you ingame, why should I care? If I do encounter you, I'm looking at your game not your name.
    But that's just me.

  • @barnabas-seadog that's definitely not me 😂😉

No my idea was to have the leader board on the home menu or the loading screen because has you say no one will GO and have a look if it's in the tavern or somewhere else.

Famous Pirates was well know but not all pirates met them , that's the idea to have some Famous pirates .
I cross path with few Famous ingames pirates already but their status is not recognised has a game mechanic .

  • @vorticalmoney7

No thanks. Then I'd be forced to look at your list of insipid gamertags instead of the game tip rhymes, which I enjoy.
At least with some kind of posted board, like the Articles, I can simply bypass it if I'm not interested.

  • @vorticalmoney7 I understand what you are saying and to some degree I can see your point by keeping the list short.
However, stats on all players would need to be gathered to be able to find the elite 20 or so.
So they might as well list the top 100, 1,000, 500,000 as it makes no difference to the stats count and programming.

Simply divide the top 20 or even the top 10 in a separate table before adding the next table of 80 or 90 to make up the top 100 list.
The next page will contain the following 100 rankings and so on.

I for one would never make the top 10,000 lists as I am not fussed with PvP but the game needs an incentive to strive for especially for the devoted PvP players.

If you don't see your name after a search it would be pointless to have the list as fewer people will use it when their name doesn't appear.
There's no point in having any ranking system at all if you don't know where you rank.

@Barnabas-Seadog This would be best done as a webpage, not in game. Although a lot of people aren't into stats, a lot more are interested in them.

All of this should have been implemented since launch. Yet another missed opportunity with the game by Rare.

  • @barnabas-seadog obviously I would like if they integrated the small leader in the game and not make it some horrible sterile list of names.

  • If players had interesting character names that are indicative of the diverse multi-ethnic pirates I see in game, yeah sure.
But a list of gamertags that mean nothing to me kills immersion.
Bad enough to see these stupid player names in game.

  • @vorticalmoney7 only problem is it would be topped by streamers using there fans and tbh i would rather not see how bad i am in a casual game

  • @admiral-rrrsole and that's why I say the list must be short because you right lot of people aren't interested in stats and if you create massive list like every games out there the Sea Of Thieves leader board will lose it's uniqueness .
I thought Pirate of the Caribbean , Black Sails ...
I think we need some Pirates known by everyone to be the best .
A type of leader board like in Ready Player One .
And as it's a pirate game Kings & Queens sound suitable for be the best Sea Of Thieves players.

  • @admiral-rrrsole
The player murdering aspect of SoT is deliberately downplayed, by design, for a reason.

OP's suggestion goes against this core design aspect, but I guess that depends on how you define "top players", rank, kills, gold, etc.

  • @vorticalmoney7 I am not disputing that Kings and Queens are a good fit for the game. I do like that idea.

  • @barnabas-seadog Yeah I see your point but the game needs something, anything, to make it more interesting. A handful of cosmetics simply doen't cut it.

  • That would require some stats system. One of the big reasons why I love this game is that there is no stats. There is no stress on keeping an above-avarage stats to your profile. One of the reason why I left Halo, COD, and GTA was for its competitive nature which revolves around stats. I like a game where you can jump in, work towards a goal, and mess around not worrying about your stats, and that's what Sea of Thieves is. I love Sea of Thieves because I'm not worrying about my K/D ratio.

  • @general-weighty I can see your point and I wouldn't be interested in it myself but a lot of people would be.
It kind of ties-in with PvP and bragging rights.
So for those of us who prefer PvE it's no big deal, nobody is forced to check out the player stats. However the PvP players need some sort of incentive to fight among themselves with a PvP faction to include rep placing less focus on PvP v PvE encounters.

  • @admiral-rrrsole who cares... that would just slow the game on loading stats. Let's make that loading time worth it on small details that would allow the game to be more immersive. Bragging rights will come with what you own and wear.

  • @general-weighty The stats won't need to load with game so it slows nothing down.
It takes a millisecond to record a kill. In fact 1,000 of a second. This is an actual fact, I am a programmer and I'm not just making up BS numbers.

It doesn't need to load or "read" stats, it just adds or "writes" each extra stat based on which parameters are set by the developer. The stats are recorded on the server pretty much like a config.ini file on a PC.

This is exactly the same as swapping weapons or any cosmetics you already own.... just without the need to load that information first. It's only writing the new "current" data / configuration.

Separate processors would access the stats data from each server and process it to the current leader board. I've even written that function myself regarding a betting system with football teams and the league ladder (aka leader board).
It's really quite simple to implement, even for an amateur programmer and it doesn't take up any noticeable resources.

The game already registers hits and kills including audio recognition with each cannon ball hit you make to an enemy ship or to the kraken.

It's all already there, they just need to join the dots.

The pay-off to many would make a huge difference to incentive in the game.

  • @admiral-rrrsole loading time is still loading time. 1/10,0000 of a second or 1/10,000,0000,000 of a second, it's still time not worth changing the whole style of what the game because few people want stats.

  • @general-weighty For crying out loud mate. The stats do not need to load.

  • @vorticalmoney7 said in Pirates Kings & Queens:

    Pirate Lords*

The Pirate King or Queen, is the number 1 pirate... There's only one king among pirates... But there are plenty of pirate lords. I think a top 10 list fits perfectly, 1 king, 9 lords.

  • @admiral-rrrsole I'm not going to argue whether it does or not but stats are always changing in-game. I use SPSS software where the same data is always there, and it takes time for the system to load the data when I manipulate it differently. My point is, stats will ruin an-already-perfect game. It doesn't need it.

  • @admiral-rrrsole and you said it take 1/1000 of a second to record a kill. What is that if not time? At least put "th" after 1000 if you want to talk about fractions of a second, Mr. Programmer.

  • @general-weighty Sorry to disagree, mate, but just by looking at threads and posts in this forum would tell you that it is far from being a perfect game.

By introducing stats would make way for a PvP rep based faction. Actually, your current rep is no different, as it too is a stat.

With a PvP faction, like-minded players could battle it out against other PvP minded players to gain rep. Let's face it, any rep is a bragging point.
Crews doing a PvP faction will lose rep if they attack PvE players. See where I'm going with this?

It could open many possibilities and help with weekly events such as arena style PvP ship on ship battles, or even guild v guild battles.

There is so much potential for this game to be the best ever and thousands of people who see this potential are coming up with great ideas right here on these forums.

We just don't want to see such a huge wasted opportunity slip through the gaps of any deck.

  • @admiral-rrrsole People will complain about anything even when there's nothing wrong. It's just human nature, people will complain about the sky being blue. Developers allowed for a forum for people to share their thoughts so what do you expect, people to post how perfect the game is? People are complaining about the sole purpose of the game, pirates stealing other pirates' loot.
The only stats the game needs are already in the game, commendations and how much coins you have earned.

Another con to this is that friendlies will become more rare. Stats will only promote more aggressive gameplay. It's fun coming accross a friendly player in the game.

  • @general-weighty You would need to read my other posts which are more in depth with the PvP faction and how it changes gamer tags and sails to red for easier distinction between the two modes of play.

I am 100% PvE (when others allow me to play the game the way I want) and by giving PvP players a faction or two of their own based on PvP rep activities, was the only way I could see us PvE players getting any breathing space to do voyages uninterrupted.

It won't totally stop PvPers (some people just live to be a kill-joy) but the majority would rather increase rep by only fighting PvP faction ships, than decrease rep by attacking a non-PvP faction ship.

All of this comes back to a stats system.

  • Why would a small list of players be listed in a leaderboard when there is no way to see who is in a server?

I run into maybe 1 or 2 ships while I play for hours.

    Sometimes no ships at all.

No way would I ever run into someone on the leaderboard.

I would have to be close enough to kill them to see their gamertag.

Sea Of Thieves is a casual pirate game about grinding for cosmetics.

Sprinkle in some light PvP every 2 to 6 hours while most of your time is spent sailing and completing PvE fetch quests.

It's not a competitive game or esports streaming game.
    Stats are meaningless.

  • @sweltering-nick you are perfectly right !
One King or one Queen then some lords I like that 😊

  • Be a good way for Rare to locate hackers also...

  • @ghostwolfviking that's why my idea is not so much about stats but more about some sort of status , be able to know who is the few top players and generate an extra game mode out of this 😊

  • @daddy-sanctus I'm sure Rare would find a way to make it so you have somewhat of an advantage maybe more supplies, a buff on your ship armor, etc... The other thing is that some people don't want to engage in combat or don't want to take the time to sail around the seas looking on the horizon just for your flag. I don't think too many people would target the leaderboard king unless they just dropped into an unlucky server.
