Server population

  • 1 i would like more players on a server the world is so empty with only skeletons and a few NPCs who sell stuff, and not much stuff to that.

If you add more players the world might feel cramped so maybe some extra sea between islands, and to avoid slow sailing just bump the sailing speeds up too. This will allow for more players but still open areas, i just wish i could ever find a sea battle of 2 armadas clashing 10 galleons charging into an epic battle.

Finally in my empty worlds i question if it is empty in fact. I would like a menu with a list of ships, (customize our ships name) and the people onboard.

Ahoy mate, the way in which Rare manages servers, is to preserve the number of encounters and they do this by using data to detect proximity and frequency of encounter.

If the number is too low, you'll be seamlessly migrated to a server with a population where you will encounter other players.

It may seem as if the world is empty, but it's possible that ships may be sailing in other regions or, docked, or just well hidden, particularly if they are sloops.

This article gives more information on the system used.

Wonderful, now im suggesting what i said above, because i dont think their system is handling it well ATM, the world is empty as a i stated in a PC only game (minus the 5 repetitive NPC and skele) They need alot more player interaction I go for hours only seeing a few ships way off in the distance. I find it boring to get a mission, dig up a chest, turn it in X10 over the course of a few hours with out even dealing with anyone but that same NPC over and over

  • Indeed a bit more ppl on the sea would be cool!

  • @blappo-spawn
    NPC* only game, you mean?

The number of ships/players you're asking for is rather extreme. I'm fairly certain the Dev's have mentioned different maps are a possibility in the future. But, I think you missed the point of what @KattTruewalker was saying... There have been very, very few times that I've ever gone consecutive hours without seeing any other ships around. Most of the times that this does happen, it's likely due to an active Skull Fort on the opposite side of the map, drawing all of the attention away from your area.

  • @blappo-spawn I get what you're saying, but there already are people who say there's too much PvP. I'd say the amount of encounters right now is a pretty good compromise for all.

  • I actually think it’s an interesting idea to have huge amounts of us on one server. If more reasons to communicate or trade with each other were implemented.

I think at first it would be a massacre on seas with everyone brawling each other but perhaps, over time, with the right mechanics in place - like guilds or trade or anything that makes up a cohesive, structured society, with strict rules and perhaps even some sort of jail / court / police presence - people would soon get bored of just killing each other and actually enjoy being in a very well populated world.

Having the right mechanics in place to start with is the key ingredient here.

I also realise this will never happen but was fun to write out the thought :)

Although trade could definitely be implemented in the game’s current state. Obviously we need more items to interact with and trade. But it would actually give us a reason to interact with each other that doesn’t involve blasting one another to oblivion.

"anything that makes up a cohesive, structured society, with strict rules and perhaps even some sort of jail / court / police presence "

Please no. The anarchic nature of this game is what makes it so beautiful. The moment you place restrictions on that, the magic is lost.

Fair point. I wouldn’t want that either ... was just trying to find something to stop everyone saying it would be a perma bloodbath.

The whole idea was just a thought. I realise it’d never happen. Was just imagining a beautiful, vibrant populated environment that we could engage and meet people in. Pipe dream :)

Trading should be a thing though.

I think the only things we might need are better ways to communicate from further away, as well as some way to distribute treasure among different crews.

Right now, there is no reason to ever work together unless for pure fun. If crews could somehow agree to evenly divide their treasure, it could be a huge incentive to band together.

  • @blappo-spawn completely disagree
With doing more voyage in a row your problem will be solved, and of course in skull fort raid sometimes there are up to 5 or 6 ships,
I find that most of the people are in hurry to engage in battle do things in game and.... But this game take to much time to show itself you must played very simple and alot, then little by little beautiful extraordinary journeys happen in game,

  • I think the balance in ship count is just about right. If you sail from one region to another it's likely you'll see at least 2 or 3 ships along the way on the horizon.

What I'm feeling lately is more ships are just focusing on voyages, particularly merchant ones and avoiding combat and thus the seas feel more peaceful.

Its becoming rare for ships to target me from great distance. Often encounters only really happen when by chance another ship has a voyage at the same island or is heading to the same outpost. Until a skull fort pops up anyway!

I think as they add more things that bring ships together whether it be through combat or cooperation it should mix this up. Keen to see how the hungering deep effects this.
