While playing the game, I noticed that the taverns have very little purpose. Aside from providing a place for the mysterious pirate to stay, and for you to fill your tankard, they currently don't serve a use. What I am proposing, is that the game develepers add in a quest system for the tavern keepers. Maybe something similair to Skyrim's system where the Inn keeper will say something along the lines of "I've heard a rumor about...".
For example:
Shipwrecks: The Tavern keeper could give you the general area and name of a ship they heard sunk recently, or the name of the captain and where he was going to from the present location.
Lost Artifacts: Maybe they could say something along the lines of "I've heard stories about a fabulous treasure, of chalices/spices hidden on (insert island name here). The treasure wouldn't be buried, but placed in an interesting spot. This would only work for the bigger more elaborate islands.
Message Deliveries: They could give you the name of an island, and have an NPC waiting there to be given a message or an item, like a refill of grog.
If anyone has any other ideas for quests, I'd love to hear them.
