Tavern Quests

  • While playing the game, I noticed that the taverns have very little purpose. Aside from providing a place for the mysterious pirate to stay, and for you to fill your tankard, they currently don't serve a use. What I am proposing, is that the game develepers add in a quest system for the tavern keepers. Maybe something similair to Skyrim's system where the Inn keeper will say something along the lines of "I've heard a rumor about...".
    For example:

    Shipwrecks: The Tavern keeper could give you the general area and name of a ship they heard sunk recently, or the name of the captain and where he was going to from the present location.

    Lost Artifacts: Maybe they could say something along the lines of "I've heard stories about a fabulous treasure, of chalices/spices hidden on (insert island name here). The treasure wouldn't be buried, but placed in an interesting spot. This would only work for the bigger more elaborate islands.

    Message Deliveries: They could give you the name of an island, and have an NPC waiting there to be given a message or an item, like a refill of grog.

    If anyone has any other ideas for quests, I'd love to hear them.

  • I like where you're going with this. Like the tavern keeper will slide you a "message in a bottle" type of quest that will stay in the background to your main quest.

    I also like the idea of rum running. Run a shipment of 4-8 full sized barrels of rum to other outposts before the time is up.

    Edit: Also, tip the tavern keeper and she will tell you who has the most loot aboard and their last known location.

    Awesome idea!

    Other ideas for quests:

    • exploration! Climb the highest point on island X to find treasure Y up there (could be a new treasure type while we are at it ... if the taverns be a 4th faction.. like a keg full of mugs or a special keg of rum.. or a few of the chalices ...a crate of bananas....)
    • exploration: as above but search for items in a dark cave
    • speed delivery: bring this Item Z to some tavern keeper at other outpost across the map within time window of 10 minutes or something
    • ever noticed the "dead or alive: foxx something" paper in the taverns? Maybe quests to research a unknown NPC that coule become a huge DLC story line some day with that foxx NPC showing up
    • all across the map are beautiful paintings on rocka of kraken, sharks, crabs ... maybe a quest to collect these in a way?

    Here is something wild:

    • imagine there are 1-8 drunk NPC pirates vomiting all over a tavern and your quest is to catch them while they run around like chickens but you can slip on the vomit or get drunk if they burb you in the face... catching them means tie them up and as soon as they all are sitting on the ground the quest is done

    Maybe the tavern keeper could say that they've heard of a piece of art on some island, and they ask you to find the specific spot and mark it on a map?

    I think your idea is awesome and I have more ideas to add
    having bounties with posters of certain high level pirate's avatars and gamer tags would be awesome - either the highest level player on the sever or a pirate legend on the server or a player who has sunk several ships
    In addition there could be tavern social events where it could be a neutral safe place for a certain amount of time...
    avatar lobbies are crazy popular -
    A tavern social function would be a catalyst for getting all the players together to either team up make peace threaten each other drink dress up with possibly temporary options for costumes ie parrots on your shoulder games like five finger ect ect ...and get xp for participating
