Sloop vs gallion

  • Single man sloop vs a gallion of 4 is just a joke. You can’t outrun the gallion, you can’t out fight 4 players. You might as well just put a bullet in you head and be done with it. This seriously needs balancing. Give the sloop more speed and double its damage and health and give an option to pull up the rope ladders on the side so other pirates can’t just climb up and take over after firing themselves at you with a cannon. Fix this please give the single man sloop players a chance!!!!

  • It's hard mode - it's supposed to be "harder"?

  • Sloops outrun galleons. I almost always play duo sloop, I find that if your decent you win most fights with four man crews. We have taken several forts in sloops

At least tacking up wind, or so I've been told.

I've always been able to outsail a galleon. In fact last week or the week before last I was chased by one, ran them into a huge rock formation (sloop's have a tighter turn radius at full sail), and could have swung around and finished them off … which I should have, but didn't.

I see this topic mentioned a lot, and I think it comes down to being able to master your vessel.

Just the other day a galleon hijacked my ship at Crooked Masts. I scuttled it. Big deal. All I had were chickens.

  • -Turn into the wind and head for the clusters of giant rocks scattered over the map. They'll never catch you if their sails don't have wind and they can't dodge around rocks or change direction as fast as you.
-Keep the back of your boat facing the bow of theirs and they won't be able to shoot cannons or players at you.
-Move around frequently to make yourself harder to hit with Eye of Reach.
-Keep an eye on the ladders and shoot them in the face as soon as you see a name tag.

Solo sloops are at a disadvantage seemingly by design, but there are plenty of ways for you to get away or even get the better of a galleon. You won't win in a brute force fight, but if you're sneaky you can get away or beat them with a bit of luck.

Good luck, fellow solo slooper. /salute

  • It is hard for sure, but it's supposed to be. That being said, taking on a Galleon solo is not impossible, you just have to very tactical about it. You can't outrun or outgun them, so you have outsmart them and out maneuver them

  • @Foxdodge made an excellent list of tips on evading a galleon that are worth a read:

The galleons inability to make quick turns is its downfall, exploit it as much as you can.

Going back to my other post, if I had swung back and gotten two or three good shots at or below the water line, that would have put them in a world of hurt. So yeah, it's not impossible, but you have to be good, and I didn't think I was that good to risk it.

As a solo player I get more trouble from other sloops than I ever do Galleons. And the few times that I have had trouble with galleons, it's been because they were on the other side of a rock or mountain, and I was on shore hunting animals.

If I, as a solo player, can lose a galleon, then there's no reason a crewed sloop shouldn't be able to do the same.

  • @loadedbrutalb2 I have a fix for you that is super simple. Stop playing solo and find a friend. It's not meant to be easy and you SHOULDN'T be able to easily outrun or defeat a galleon, And honestly if you want to just sail into the wind and you will lose them. 1v4 should really only be a hail mary type fight its super unbalanced.

  • You need to use strategy to take on a Galley in a sloop. You can’t just go in guns blazing they will sink you. It’s not impossible just don’t give up and find a strategy that works for you. I was on a 2man sloop last night and my boi and I sunk two gallons that were teamed up trying to be a fleat and we use communication and statagy to take both of them down pretty quick. Like I said it can be done just have to think before you act. Don’t give up and send the next galley u see to the bottom of the seas# pirate life. If you can’t figure out a good strategy there is a bunch of videos on YouTube that will that will show you different ways of taking down galleys.

  • I just went head to head solo in a sloop with a 3 man galleon after skull fort (sunk them during, but lost my ship as well,) and sank them one last time at the Outpost while they were offloading. It was fun. Most fun I have had on this game in a while

Attacking Galleons in Sloops is the best part of the game and the most satisfying part when you sink them.

  • I love sinking galleons as a solo or duo sloop

  • @loadedbrutalb2
Are you joking?! It's even easier to sink a galleon than a sloop.. if you know what you're doing. Use gunpowder!
