I found these concept art pictures online and I think they might be from the hungering deep! Not sure what to think about it tbh. It sure looks hungry, but those tentacles look really different from the current ones, and really unfinished.. that new shipwreck skin looks amazing tho, can't wait to buy it!
I can confirm that these are leaked images for the upcoming hungering deep dlc. Interesting how in the second image it looks as though the new monster could be bribing the mermaid? Perhaps to get back to it’s tenticals? Which would make a whole lot of sense as that’s all we can see underwater at the moment. Third image, looks like the bribe worked!! Can’t wait for this!!

So the tentacles went rogue and left the body to do their own thing?
Or maybe the tentacles are actually asking for help when they come up to your ship, because they've lost their body and can't find it.. what a terrible tragedy. All the time we thought they were trying to kill us, when it was really a cry for help :'(
