I hate griefing, I would loathe the idea of some player sneaking aboard my ship or claiming an on shore treasure while I'm elsewhere occupied and being able to hide it so well it cannot be found.
But I have seen players loaded with treasure (usually sloops) who are perhaps about to be attatcked, dash ashore and try to hide their loot before they engage in combat.
I feel that isn't a bad idea. I wonder of the value behind our burying our own treasure to be claimed later? This would obviously require a time investment that may be impractical. And if not properly handled might lead to ships hiding their full load as soon as it's gathered, so they may finish a voyage without potential loss.
That would be bad.
So I can see how this might not work.
But I still feel that 'something" is missing from the whole "pirate experience" when I have to answer the question, can you bury your own treasure? With a resounding no.
