Ye Old Faithful Isle

  • A fun story for you all about the infamous "Old Faithful Isle" in the norther parts of the seven seas. So there we were, the infamous "Two 2 Sloop", my ship mate and me. Sailing for buried treasure, we had noticed a Galleon in the distance paying us no mind. Happy to be left be, we had finished all of our maiden voyage save one riddled scribe telling us to sails to the Old Faithful Isle.

We decide to set our heading to the large land mass. The map showed it was large but sailing up on it really showed the map hadn't done it justice. We were both seasoned sailors but somehow this island had eluded our paths. As we get close, we see a rock archway with a neat and rather large cove with one way in and one way out. We decide to go in and park dead center with the ship pointed out incase we need to make an escape.

The scribe details a birdcage that must hear music to unlock the last step in finding the treasure. We decide to both go for the chest as we feel rather safe in our secluded cove. We find the cave, then the cage and one quick duet later we find our chest. This work however, was a small let down as the chest wasn't anything special but we took it none the less. As we exit the cave we see the Galleon almost in firing range and closing on our only exit!

My mate takes the chest to the ship and positions it with cannons to the "door". I take a powder keg we had collected in our travels from the ship, and start swimming to the only way in. I drop it right in the middle and hurry back. Cannon fire erupts, and we take a hit or two. The Galleon is about to come in, when they must have seen the barrel and take a quick turn towards the open sea. This, is when we get our chance. My mate corrects the position of the boat and I drop sails. We take off full speed and with my trust rifle I aim for the barrel. One shot, missed, two shots, missed again. I finally take my third shot and BOOM!

We shoot out of the archway with serious speed and cut in right behind our Galleon enemy. My mate stays right behind them taking a chance they don't have a keg themselves. They give a small chase before panic sets in. We slide right and left landing a shot now and then but they never get another hit on us. Finally in a last attempt to loose us they cut between two shallow islands but run aground in their haste. Coupled with the run aground, and almost 10 consecutive shots below the water from us they sink quicker than I have ever seen a Galleon drop.

What really makes me happy, is that this ship that tried to pull a fast one was actually carrying 3 captains chests and maybe 10 skulls of various types. They also had at least 8 kegs which really surprised me. We had to do several passes re-killing them before they stopped spawning then swooped in for the treasure. All in all we had been carrying about 6,000 in booty before, and ended up selling for near 20,000 after. This was our first PvP shootout to yield any sizable loot.

Since that fight, we now visit the island anytime we are in the area and I suggest ye do the same. Old Faithful is unique and fun, not to mention a special memory now for me mate and I.

  • @xxxrookxxx great story! My brother and I did something similar to a galleon. Check out the Heist of Dagger Tooth Bay story. It's feels great taking down bigger ships and being rewarded :)

  • @xxxrookxxx it sounds like you were at smuggler's bay, but either way a great tale.

  • I believe the two are fairly similar as I’ve revived the same feedback from others. I love islands like this that you can “navigate” your way into.

  • @smootwala said in Ye Old Faithful Isle:

@Smootwala I owe you an apology, it was Smugglers Bay after all!

  • @xxxrookxxx no worries and no apology necessary. Perhaps one day we will meet up at smugglers and drink a tankard of grog together.
