What do you do after being sunk?

  • So it's happened to all of us, getting sunk by another player(unless you are an immortal purple pirate God) . I'm just curious about the after math, how do you handle it? Do you message good game and go for drinks? Do you go to the nearest fort and stockpile for all out revenge and war? If you had loot do you vow to get it back? Do you switch servers? Do you just go about your business like it never happened or do you rage quit vowing to never sail the high sea again only to find yourself back on within an hour after posting about it here?

An incident that happened to me made me think of this, about how people handle this situation so differently.

Last night I was sailing with two friends and a galleon starts heading our direction. I kept going and they kept stalking us. I have a five minute rule, I will run for roughly five minutes to give the people chasing a chance to back off if they don't then will fight. So five minutes go by and the battle is on. They are awful, I sail circles around whoever was sailing their ship and my one friend who is amazing on the cannons just lets loose and peppers the c**p out of them. I decide to do a close turn around a rock and the captain of the other ship tries but can't so they drop anchor right before they are about to crash, dumb move. I place us at a advantage point and we sink them.

Ok so battle won, we go back to our quest since that's what we enjoy. We are docked at an island and guess who is back? It's the ship we just sunk covered in salt. They ram our docked ship and sink it. Ok whatever, nothing was on it. I get a message from one crew member that our ship sunk lol. I messaged him we sunk them in battle and they just sunk a parked ship and asked him if he wanted a cookie.

We decided to leave the server because I knew they were so salty about us sinking them they would continue to follow us. I was thinking how different they were from a previous galleon we sunk. They were totally cool about it after getting sunk again in a rematch and we all became friends and hung out at the tavern. I just don't get why this galleon crew was so p****d especially since they initiated the fight, we weren't looking for one. Anyways I been sunk twice with my galleon crew and so far I had friendly conversation with both other crews and then just got everyone back on track doing quest.

    So what do you do?

  • It depends. I usually rage out, raise anchor and go for revenge. If time allows. Sorry i dont like to lose

  • Usually it ends up with me being p****d at myself for not paying attention. I think I've been sunk 4 times, I'd say 3 of those were due to me not paying attention to my surroundings and being sloppy. Cue a crew that gets the drop on me.

I try to not get angry at other players, it's a game after all. A player that sinks me one day could be my crewmate the other day.

  • If I'm sailing with random and a ship sinks us, then I will hang of of that ladder on their ship till they anchor and do whatever they were doing before. Then boom, throw all their loot of the ship. Then camp ladders and drive their ship right into the island. (I'm a tactile scurvy b*****d on the seas.

My crew has really only been sunk by 2 or 3 ships. We are a rock solid group who know how to outsail, out cannon, and outsmart yer crew 11-1. We only lose to a group of ships. It's egotistical I know. But my ship the Wiggity does not go down.

I usually react in a much more manly way than you. I rage quit the game, sulk, and play Ark Survival instead. ;-P

  • I usually analyze what I did wrong and think about what I could do different next time.

  • Whatever you do, don't go back to the battle where you last sank because that's griefing!!!

... or so I've been told here multiple times.

  • Depends on the situation. We don't get sunk a lot so when we do it hurts our pride a little lol. If we think there is a reasonable chance to reclaim anything we lost we go for revenge, otherwise we either go on with voyages or take a short break.

I restock a little, put down a new voyage and continue what I was doing from there! As in getting filthy rich!

  • I'll act out whatever fantasy I chose to utilise.

  • @combatxkitty Usually only happens with a crew of random new kids or if we're at an outpost. I'll come back and get revenge. After that, it's up to them how they want their evening to progress.

  • Close the game and play something that will actually allow me to have a good time, like MHW or even Overwatch.

  • @ant-heuser-kush We carry loot and attack people all the time. Got sank once doing it because we were all fairly inebriated and two of the crew were new. Usually don't have problems though. Heading to an outpost takes time away from hunting ships.

  • Depends on my mood and situation.
I generally sail solo and when a sloop of one or two sinks me, I just go back to my voyages and ignore them.
If it's a galleon that sinks me, well, I chase it from a distance and if they are heading to an outpost I try to reach said outpost before them and ambush them... I'm an incompetent pirate and I know well it's a suicide mission and in fact it usually ends up with me dying, not before I kill at least one of the crew, though.
(it's been a while since the last time I played SoT, I don't know if it's still possible to chase other ships, given the fact that the respawn distance now is greater than before the patch)
Finallly, when some smart guys sink my ship while it's docked at the outpost, empty, me doing my business... when this happens I try - often successfully - to steal the guys' ship, move up to the crow's nest and let the ship set its course to a rock.
I'm ok with other ships sinking me or fighting me when I've some loot, but I loathe gamers who sink docked ships... what's the point?

  • @combatxkitty I've done all of my violence during my youth in real life. I have nothing to prove to anyone any more and try to just go about my business playing the game the way I want to play it and respecting others who would also like to play the game in a laid back fashion.
I have been with crews who say that they want to do voyages but then flick a switch inside their brain when they see a ship, either close by or distant.

I have mellowed with age so I try to be the voice of reason but it only takes one crew member to start firing cannons to turn everything upside down. Especially when they appear to be as blind as myself, missing most shots by a country mile.

My main objective is that almost every time I have been in this situation they haven't gathered any supplies. You can't fight a war with 8 cannon balls and 3 planks. lol
This is why I have turned to manning sloops. Now I have a 50/50 say.

We recently defeated a galleon who started the attack on our sloop while we were on an island. They sunk us and the gold skeletons shot us dead but we returned in a replacement ship to sink them and reclaim our 7 chests and a few skulls that were still in the water after sinking. One soul/skull was still on the island where we left it.
Although that only proved that they were worse than us at battle. lol
There was no communication at all from them and neither of us met on the ferry.

They came back a couple of times and we drove them away licking their wounds. Unfortunately the game is bugged and we had to wait forever for two chests to finally hit the floor of the shallow waters. The other five (more valuable) chests that we could not physically grab, eventually de-spawned before our eyes.
Had it not been for this bug they probably would have been long gone before our return. So that worked in both ways, in and out of our favour.

I'm still not sure if this was more or less frustrating than had they made away with our loot. Six or half a dozen I suppose.

We stayed on the same server but if it happened with every other ship I imagine we would have switched servers.

  • I had a sloop following my sloop and I just couldn't shake him. He was taunting us with text chat (we were a 2 man crew, he was solo), so we decided to fight him. He sunk us good after killing us several times. After he sunk us, he still kept taunting us and even messaged me in xbox, reminding us of how much we sucked. I think he was just being cheeky, so I congratulated him on his victory. He was good, I can't deny that. So why not tell him he outplayed us? He later messaged me in xbox saying he was taking on a galleon. lol...I told him galleons probably fear solo sloop players like him. I had to admit, he was a tough player.

  • log out, enter a new game

  • If I'm playing solo, I usually quit if I end up sunk. It's a rare occurrence, but sometimes I get chased by a 2 man sloop for an hour, until I get bored and just sail off the map and log off to do something else.

With a galleon it only seems to happen at a stronghold, and regardless of my feelings the crew typically decides to respawn and head right back. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't. Today we had a sloop that was full of loot try and attack us at a stronghold. They were terrible and we sunk them quickly and grabbed all their loot while laughing at our fortune. They came back 3 times before we finished, dying quickly each time.

Left to my own devices I think it's a waste of time to spawn and chase, unless there is a clear path to quick victory I'd rather get on with something else. If my crew is good enough to get back and win the day we probably wouldn't get sunk in the first place.
