Preview Items on Character & Ship Models Prior to Purchase

  • For a game that puts such a emphasis on cosmetics, I think there could be a lot of improvements made in the cosmetic purchasing interface.

I can't believe that there isn't a way to preview what a certain piece of clothing or item looks like on our character. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who has scrimped and saved every gold piece they come across over multiple play sessions to purchase that one item I've had my eye on, only to be wildly disappointed to see that the result on my character model was nothing like I imagined it would be -- all that money and time wasted, while the item went into the chest, never to be used again.

Luckily the above example has only happened to me with clothing and items, and not ship customization. I think if it had the wind would've be taken out of my sails, literally and figuratively. But ship customization should also be preview-able; the little thumbnails that are provided presently do not give the whole picture. Ideally having a full ship model that changes with the prospective purchase(s) would be ideal, but if that's too much of a technical burden I'd at least settle for a picture of the whole ship piece (mostly this applies to the hull) and not just a thumbnail, so I know what I'm getting. Players shouldn't have to go online to a wiki or Reddit to see them.

Lastly, since customization is such a focus of the game, I would love to see a change made so that when customizing our character, the model is moved from their current position on the upper-ish right-hand side of the screen, and instead made larger, and placed squarely center screen. This would make it far easier to see the impact each customization has on our pirate, for while the items are awesome and rightly desired, in my mind, the pirate should always be the focus, not the items.

  • This has been extensively requested during alphas and, just as many other basic gameplay mechanics, it must have seemed way too 'ungroundbreaking' for the designers to put it in the damn game.

That's a shame, because if there's going to be so few items/clothes/customizations to purchase it would be nice if they'd at least let us make sure we want to spend our loot on the ones that are. The prices are pretty punishing.

  • I agree I would like this feature a lot.

  • Throwing in my support for this, would be a nice feature to have.

  • @Android-Ant It is a shame indeed and clearly i was being sarcastic about the reasons for it not being a feature already in game. I'm fairly sure it is something that everybody would love to have, but it's just really, really annoying for me that we are still at a point of having to ask for this kind of stuff.
