Cursed Legendary Items

  • Hi there !

    I'll go straight. Most people say that they want weapons and/or clothes to have attributes, to be more powerful, to dig faster with an epic shovel, have better boots to boost movement speed, things like this... But when you think about it, no one wants that. No one wants to be disadvantaged facing a pirate / crew who have a better experience of the game, who's richer ; it will litteraly kill the game for new players and casual players. I'm sure devs make the good choice to not include this.

    But I think something is possible nethertheless :
    First of all, I don't remember the post on the forum but someone said that the game needs the notion of rarity and I totally agreed with it.
    Fast example : extremly low chances to get special items - or fragments of it - in chests. Or instead of it, fragments of a rare map to find what I'm about to tell you.

    I'm sure you all remember of Jack Sparrow when he took the cursed coin. He was transforming to the moonlight. It's nearly the same standard :
    until you equiped this item, you're cursed. This curse can be visible to other players (like skeleton Sparrow) or not, depending on the item.
    And it's not a simple super rare thing just for show. You're cursed. So you're DESADVANTAGED. And YOU decided to be when equiping the item.

    Then, you have another goal being cursed :

    • Try to kill an antire crew, when you can't use a single banana, when you have only one slot for ammo in your weapons, cannot use your cannons...
    • Hunt a big creature in the map that you're the one to see, even you're crew can't see it. Could be nice to fight an invisible monster with someone who actually can give instructions. And then, when the monster die you broke the curse, the item has no more effects.
    • Think we can have many ideas on this...

    So when you achieve any of those goals, obviously, you obtain super rare items, clothes, anything for the ship, weapons, (pets later), music instrument, or anything that can be cool to show !

  • @xenom993 Loving this curse idea. Have some items that give you a disadvantage while making you look awesome until you unequip it as well, like the skulls from "Halo 2". Also, would love to see the Black Spot Captain Jack gets. Being hunted by a buffed up kraken could be fantastic.

  • Compass that leads you to your hearts desire but never points north. No clue how its be implemented but could be fun.

    I think itd be neat if there was a cursed sword that was yours until you died and is instantly given to whomever killed you. Said sword could be the Sword of Infinite Bananas. Heals you by a percentage of damage done but you can't use guns or bananas. Sword looks like a giant banana.

    Thanks ! yeah that's the inspiration. I didn't though about halo skulls but it's totally part of the idea :)

  • Well in the tales of the Sea of Thieves lore book. The crews find a cursed chest that had runes on it that summoned the kraken. Most likely this will be implemented in a future update along with mermaids, the Sea of the Damned territory, and Dodo birds. This is all fortold in the books so be prepared.

  • It's written like a diary from a few captains. It's actually really interesting and sad at parts for what happens to some of them.

  • I enjoyed the book - I definitely think Flameheart, the sunken Silver Blade, the cursed goblet, the Merfolk and the cursed chest will make it into the game. Too much fun material not to have it somewhere.

  • I Like the idea of having to defeat a curse. Say the curse turns you into a skeleton with no name plate. You have to somehow get around the world without being killed on sight by everyone, including your crew by accident if you jump into the fray of a skelly fight. Find multiple clues that lead to the cure. You also find a final clue. This clue leads to a special instrument. Perhaps the instrument turns you, and everyone in a small radius, into a skelly for a minute.

    I personally don't want anything that would give someone an advantage in combat. I faster digging shovel or something that would not really affect other players experience but a more powerful gun that would. Personally I like the idea but I think the rewards should be cosmetic and when pets come out that would be purrrfect for this. Cursed quest you get a cursed cat, That's something I'd definitely be grinding for.

  • What he's getting at is a debuff to get certain cosmetics. Such as wearing a cursed object that will give you a certain hat when you complete a certain criteria. Such as an amulet that lowers sword damage against skellies and also disintegrates clothes so you have to kill 100 skeletons with the sword in the play through without the help of your crew interfering with damage. Then after the criteria is met the amulet disappears and the item you were running for can be bought at the respected store. In this case a pair of boxers with bones on them or something.

    OR you just get put in a different server? like every single other game out there that has a leveling system.

    Im not saying SOT needs this, but people act like its game breaking. its not

    Sorry to contradict you but yes, it is.

    You can't just create this kind of server. Why ? Cause you cannot ask for SOT servers that will totally denature the game. It's that simple.
    Or then you call it "Sea of Dopey Thieves" and make an other game.

    Where did you see a leveling system here ? We're only talkin about Reputations with societys. All pirates have the same abilities, powers, in a way that every crew can hope to defeat an ennemy crew, with Skill and Strategy.

    If you lose this, only the super stuffed crews will stay on the game after they kill all the unstuffed crews who are now too frustrated to play again. And then, when the powerfuls will be alone, they'll lose any interest for the game too, you finally killed SOT.

    I don't understand how you guys don't get it. Hope you will :)

    But do love the idea of being cursed from a cosmetic standpoint. Maybe you become a skeleton but keep your clothes, get crab hands (doesn't impact anything you do), etc
    Things which are silly for you and your crew to enjoy

    That's why being cursed have to represent real issues for players. I don't like the idea to have a cosmetic curse only. It does not mean anything.

    When you're cursed, that mean you're trying to complete a true challenge being disadvantaged no matter how. The skeleton look is just an idea, it can be anything, and like I said in the first post, it's not necessarily visible. Depends of the cursed item you equiped.
    And for the name ruinning immersion, they just have to add an option to hide gamertags, it's not rocket science :)

    I don't get it why you're talkin about bosses. And Skeletons boarding ships could typically come in next updates so it's neither a problem !
