The design director said this wouldn't happen. Part of this game is piracy.
Now, I wouldn't mind a social outpost with games, and things like that.
But only if nothing can be sold there, or if you do sell stuff, it doesn't count for rep whatsoever.
I know it's been said 1000s of times. Sea of Thieves

EDIT: To reiterate, Im fine with a social zone. But not one where you can sell things for gold/rep. As said in the thread, it ruins the unpredictability of the game, and the piracy aspect that I love.

  • @thebattlebork I’m against safezones but your argument is flawed. Arguing from a point of authority is is just as worthless as people wanting safezones because they don’t like conflict.

If the devs made gold reset every 24 hours, would you say “no point in arguing against it, the devs word is law” or would you try to discuss getting them in the game?

We’ve already seen that they are very flexible and quick with player feedback and points of concern so don’t use the “they won’t change their stance” argument coz it doesn’t hold water.

  • @elite-assasin87 Then why add them then? The PvE would get old, SO FAST. The risk, the thieving, the chases, add the rush that makes this game fun.

  • @thebattlebork Agreed but I’m not arguing for the safezones, I’m saying your posting is regurgitating the same fallacy that every post against safezones states. Your initial post should be your response to my comment not “never says Chapman”.

  • I don't want a safezone because I want to be all safe and cuddly and everyones smiling and waving at each other. I just want to be able to chill for a bit with netflix on my 2nd screen just running around looking at funny AI characters walking around, going by the tavern that actually has other players in it and playing card games club penguin style. Its supposed to be a ''chillzone''. No selling or turning anything in for rep. Maybe even make it a seperate server. So you can choose to go there and from there you can load into the actual world with a crew you find on the island/capitol or wherever/whatever it should be.

  • Safe zones are inherently flawed in of themselves.

Players need to stay vigilant and assess situations. One of the most anxious times is during chest turn in. Safes zones will just move the campers 25ft out.

  • No one seems to get that a safe zone outpost would be a place to NOT be able to sell anyting, nor take on voyages or any other PVE activites. It could be a Player interactive place ONLY.

Play cards, mini games, have fun, chill the hell out before the mindless pvp starts again once at sea.

    I see no problems here.

You left out a key element of that sentence. "FOR YOU" that would all be boring FOR YOU. You and all the other people talking about how awesome PVP is need to understand YOU DO NOT SPEAK FOR EVERYONE ELSE. For me personally I would never play a PVE only server I'd rather have the PVP possible but I can at least understand that other people want that kind of thing. I also acknowledge that this game was sold with the promise of it being changed so by all means give your own reasons why you don't want that but make them reasons you logically have the right to make.

A PVE only area is not the same damn thing as a safe zone.

A safe zone players are able to socialize and show off their vanity items and ships BUT THERE IS NO PVE OR PVP.

They could easily make it so it has shops and a pub but NO quest givers or turn in NPCs. So it cannot be used to avoid PVP during questing.

It would just be a social hub to take a break.

It will happen because the players want it to happen and it encourages vanity item displaying which is a profit incentive for Microsoft.

Stop being so clueless. People want a social hub.

There are players who want PVE only servers. But that is not the same thing as a safe zone.

Pirates almost never attacked other pirates, noob.

It doesn't matter if they add one or not. People will strut around on the boardwalks.

Rare believes and other games have proved (Fortnite, Overwatch), that cosmetic items sell well.

It is human nature to show off your clothing. If it wasn't we would still be wearing man dresses like the Greeks.

    They had plenty.

They created settlements and towns with rule of law and democratic institutions in an era where totalitarian Monarchs and the Church ruled the Western world.

Hell, they even had a form of workman's comp to provide funds for pirates injured on the job or for their families.

Pirates were politically and socially pretty damn progressive for their era.

  • god this dope wont stop chasing, someone call a ambulance the fool behind me has sunk 3 times and wont get the hint. that guy is going to die on his game never fit in a body bag sprawled out like that stiff as a bored and purple with bruises

L**o. Ok, I love that you know your history. And joking aside for a moment... Do we want a game to be fun and piraty? Or as real and historically accurate as possible?

Personally, I don't want ANY safezones in this game as it ruins the unpredictability of the event. I have seen ships able to signal each other, dock together and hang out without the need of a safezone. Also, I don't want to chase another pirate and all of a sudden he's safe because he crossed an imaginary line. Makes no sense.

As for the monarchs and the church... Maybe a faction system at some point? But I don't see that happening soon.

I say if you want a social hub, drop the anchor and turn on all your lanterns and hope the other guys aren't total jerks.

They can make the safe zone its own server so you choose to log into it. By making it its own server it can even handle more players logged into it at a time because the server will not be handling a sea of activity beyond the towns shores.

A large pirate town where people can hang out, play music, and socialize.

It could have small PVP dueling area to settle disputes.

  • in real life we have guns and online you have words lol lol lol lol lol lol lol

  • @thebattlebork Lets be real though, if you don't add something like this there will always be trolls who run around killing each other... a safe zone at outposts is bad but some people have suggested a separate server instance which is essentially a large tavern where pirates can chill, with PvP turned off. I think this is a good idea and as it is a separate server it isn't going to affect everything in the ocean, but pirates can chill, talk, show off their equipment (I think ships should be there too so people can show off their ships), play cards, wager, or whatever. Perhaps PvP can be an option if a player challenges another player.

I know this isn't 100% piratey but I don't know how else a social space which many people have asked for, is going to happen and work.

Pirates were politically and socially pretty damn progressive for their era.

They were political tools of warfare that were villainous wretches to other countries. They often murdered, r***d, and pillaged. They were not nice men, but contractors of high seas warfare.

Just because they were a proxy tool of the elites does not make them progressive. Also, progressive is being used too much to describe thinking that is often the exact opposite.

As for safe zones- everyone jumping on the O.P., he did not say social hub. A safe zone is a broad term. There can be useful safe zones if they do not directly conflict with previously established proven game design.

We can summarize it best by making safe zones a loot free zone. Any loot on your ship gets dropped into the sea when approaching a social hub.

This would allow a social hub but prevent it from being abused as a method of escape.

  • @thebattlebork

IMO this game needs a social meeting spot. I fully support and enjoy 100% PVP, but this game would be more interesting if there were player interactions besides shooting each other in the face with shotguns.
