PC Vs Console is unfair

  • @lady-aijou
Please. This whole thread is bait. As are the bulk of these forums.

Maybe if you & your superiors did a better job of explaining the game, there wouldn't be a zillion of these topics. So censor my memes all you want, but my suggestion is still the answer.

  • I consider myself a PC player. I have owned various Xboxes since 2004 or so but I have only actually played 6 games beyond a few minutes in the last 14 years. Total hours played a few hundred. Maybe.

I have a few thousand 24 hour days played on a PC.

There is literally no debate that PC players have an overall advantage in Sea of Thieves. Anyone trying to claim otherwise is a liar.

In a game with no character progression that insists it must always make sure "everyone is equal" there is literally NO EXCUSE for cross play to be mandatory.

It violates the central principle of equality between players in the game.

It HAS to be changed eventually. It is going to kill this game.

People who get frustrated with this over time will eventually leave. And they will not come back.

As an Xbox exclusive and a Game Pass game the Xbox community is the majority of the player base.

We cannot afford to lose them.

  • @perfecshionist Stop trying.

It needs to get worse before it gets better and it needs to hit wallets so I expect changes after Rare has dropped the pets as microtransactions.

I stopped playing because of forced cross play. Too much ridiculous stuff happened in my sessions and I can't be asked to continue playing.

I still have hope that Rare develops basic common sense when it comes to cross play but my hope is grounded on nothing to be honest.

Well, lets just call it faith lol

  • I cannot give a definitive answer without playing this game on both console and PC (nobody can, really) but to date the ONLY advantage I've heard of to be fact is that aiming is more precise using a mouse.
    PC +1

I have also been told that you can buy a mouse for your console.
If these are both true then that puts PC and console on equal ground.
    PC +1 / Xbox +1

The console controls have a better, common sense approach where everything in game is controlled by 12 buttons as opposed to 31 keys.
    Xbox +2

The PC layout has multiple keys to do the same thing in different circumstances. Sometimes it's this key other times it has to be a different key. Why?
    Xbox +3

The console also has the advantage of the family TV as opposed to my modest 19" monitor.
    Xbox +4

For those who are fortunate enough to be able to play this game on both PC and Xbox it would also come down to which control set up you are more comfortable with.

All in all, it makes no difference to me. At my age the ol' reflexes aren't as sharp so I generally suck at combat. lol

As for the cross-play interaction, I have only found one other PC player in the crews I have been a part of since open beta and game launch. I have met and made some good friends where we've shared plenty of laughs and would hate to see us divided.

  • Honestly, as an xbox user the only time ive lost in combat that wasnt balanced was on a modder. He shot 4 cannons, and killed all 4 crewmates.

I had an epic 40 minute battle with a pc user. They had keyboard chat. They managed to out run us, and turn in their loot before we sank them.

There are too many factors in this game that fast mouse isnt going to fix. Try to learn how the waves rock the boat, the speed of an incoming ship, the wind, etc. Too many things that fast reactionary time wont fix.

Just keep the cheaters out and im good.

  • Rare only saw a 4% difference in combat in favor of PCs. 4%. Might as well be a margin of error that can be overcome with skill.

  • @nevabud4u said in PC Vs Console is unfair:

@rk1-turbulence we buy console so that we can relax and play with a contoller if we wanted to be hunched over a m/kb we would have bought PCs. The fact is we buy consol to play against other consoles not to play against PC players. Anyone saying give xbox kb/m support is missing the point.

Just use a controller on PC if you want to use a PC in the lounge room, hell I keep a controller plugged into my PC at my desk when I want to swap to it since that is an option for games especially since you can do it on the fly.

I don't want my xbox turned into a PC just so I can compete with PC players. Even with kb/m support it won't be enough, we need 3rd party apps, macro customization etc just to be on par with PC players.

It's already a PC, just a locked down prebuilt PC

  • @logansdadtoo This explains why I can never find the recent players that I completely own to say GG on my recent player’s list.

Guys.. if this is true and PC players don’t show up on console recent player’s list, then I’ve been playing on xbox against a ton of PC users and completely destroying them.

But PC has an advantage? Oooooooook.

  • @lady-aijou I have to agree with the other guy. A lot of these topics like these PC v Console arguments not only are duplicate posts (against the rules) but also very trolly (also against the rules) and looking to instigate these fights, hate, and distrust between the system users.

It would be nice if the team would address these concerns about PC and console balancing for good.

The patch notes where they described that consoles actually had an advantage was not enough to dispell this misconception that PC players have an advantage.

  • @puck269 Thank you. I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees the irony.

@perfecshionist Nothing "has to be changed." This game was built with the intent to cross-platform. The majority of the xbox users who are complaining were going to complain regardless. So, call me a liar all you want to, but I've been beaten by enough xbox users in PvP (in this game) to know better.

  • life ain't fair cross play be here t' stay 'n nope its nah unfair i 'ave 0 issues on me Xbox one yer jus' cryin' o'er a few lost battles

cross play be here 'n great keep it up best thin' t' ever happen don't listen t' cry sprogs who lose a few battles

Being beaten by an xbox player is completely irrelevant to the fact that you have an in game advantage as a PC player. Nobody is claiming that an XBOX player can never win. They are saying that the in game advantage is significant enough to have a disproportionally negative impact on the experience of Xbox players.

And Xbox players are the majority of the player base. IF you think that nothing has to be changed then you do not understand how important it is to the future of this game, the future of Rare, and the future of the Xbox platform that cross play as it is creating a tangible disadvantage in game for Xbox players - the MAJORITY of their players.

So why should and xbox player choose to continue to play this game instead of one of the hundreds of other multiplayer games where he is competing against other players on a equal platform basis.

So why should console gamers buy the next generation of Xbox if the future of the Xbox is cross platform gaming and they can expect to consistently face PC players with a clear in game advantage?

I can tell you as a PC player that I will not buy the next generation of Xbox. Why would I? Why would anyone?

I can just play the same games on a PC and enjoy an advantage over Xbox players.

And when I want to play a console I would choose a PlayStation so when I am playing a console I am on an equal platform footing with the other competitors in the game I am playing.

You are completely wrong to think "nothing needs to be changed". FORCED cross platform is the death knell of the future of the Xbox.

All that needs to be done is have a check box that makes cross platform optional. The game can handle it and it would keep the player base from leaving.

  • @perfecshionist

Let console players leave, if they don't want cross platform. They don't understand the game.

If more people gamed on PC's the world would be a better place. :)

  • @wodyo said in PC Vs Console is unfair:

Let them leave. They don't understand the game.

If they leave the servers get shut down.

This game is not and never was intended to be a PC title. Cross platform is an experiment not an objective of this game.

This game was intended to be a flagship Xbox exclusive to bolster lagging Xbox sales in a platform generation where Xbox is losing players to the Switch and has consistently been underperforming against the PS4.

If this game fails in the Xbox marketplace it fails in its primary purpose and its development will be shut down since one of its primary revenue streams is the incentive it creates for players to maintain a Game Pass.

Microsoft keeps careful data on which of the Game Pass games are maintaining player engagement and maintain player subscriptions. If this game fails to keep Xbox players engaged this game fails. Period.

And you are being an arrogant twit for claiming Xbox players do not understand this game.

They understand it. This is about player parity. NOT PVP. People keep lazily leaning on the notion that "PVP happens" to dismiss the concerns over cross platform. That is absolutely NONSENSE.

One of this game's central design principles was absolute equal power parity between players. Not player have an in game advantage of any player. Which is why this game has no progression.

The significant advantages the PC control scheme provides PC players is a massive in game advantage completely defying one of the central design tenets of this game. A design tenet that is essential to the experience that Rare had in mind for players.

There is no possible way Rare can maintain the design concept of balanced gameplay with such completely different a decidedly unbalanced controls schemes/

  • Arrogant twit?

Kiddo, the world doesn't have to cater to you. Grow up.

  • Why assume that PC is just a keyboard? many of us play on PC with controller.
Second, no, it is not unfair, in any case should ask Xbox to once and for all enable keyboard and mouse console for the user who prefers to use it.

If we get so delicate, we must ask to separate by 30fps - 60fps, normal controller - elite controller, normal monitor - curved monitor..etc XD.

  • @noobosoarus pc players are noobs I play on Xbox and half of the pc players I come against are poo I tried playing on pc I find it harder

  • Not really I have played against PC players and Xbox players and I have never had a problem this game is just based on skill and learning new tricks.

  • cross play is one of the best features of the game

  • @thebattlebork
That was against skeletons & was pre beta. Not PVP!
    Totally irrelevant to the conversation.

  • So what happens to those on an Xbox vs those on an Xbox x? They would also get separated.

What about those on PC using a gamepad?

What about those on console using K&M?

Preach, I have actually spent 5x more time on these forums in the last week than I have in game waiting on RARE or MS to even comment on the situation.

To he honest I game pass the game because my xbox friends were all hyped on it, none of them play it anymore because of the above topic. I didn't know it was forced cross-platform and just assumed like other SUCCESFUL titles it would optional. I was wrong, but I enjoyed the game and would like to stick around and see what the future has in store. Surely forced cross play cannot continue....or can it?
