Hackers, DDOS attack after skull fort ended

  • So my team and I just cleared a skull fort and a sloop rolls up and my whole teams xbox's froze. All of us got kicked instantly. I am certain this was a ddos attack as I know how they work from destiny 2. Flawless trials of the nine....

What can Rare do to prevent this kind of attack? Has anyone else magically cleared a skull fort and a sloop rolls up and BAM your kicked from game?

  • @nevabud4u I took a clip bit there isn't much to see other than my frozen body and the sloop floating in air.

  • @nevabud4u wouldn't a ddos attack kick everyone off?

  • just wondering, wouldnt ddos attack effect all servers?

  • @lucky-monkee no just the one with the intended victims...my wifi is still messed up from the attack.

  • I don't have experience with SOT ddossed attacks but on destiny it matches you up 4v4 and one team ddossed the other team and each time one or more members disconnect from the game. So it will be 4v2 then 4v1 for the easy win.

I'm guessing it's similar here, where after we got ddosed the guys who did it simply go pick up our treasure and go cash it in.

  • @nevabud4u If you truly was DDoS attacked and are stile having issues with your router clear the cache and logs on your router and reboot it.

    Should solve your issue.
    have a good weekend!!

  • @nevabud4u It's not a DDOS attack specifically aimed at you. Over the last 5 hours if you have been watching forums, a TON TON TON of players have non stop been recieving AlmondBeard errors. Myself Included. I'm in no position to say for sure but i think just in general Rare was under a DDOS attack that didn't quite hit the mark but loaded the system enough to cause the errors over the last couple hours.

There is no full solution to the game except heighten the ping requirement. i know a few games where if your ping hits a certain level thats not sustainable it will kick you if it doesn't stabilize. Which could be whats happening to people, huge spikes from overall load, and game is like "uhhh this guy is gonna rubberband everywhere and thats bad for pvp/pve etc etc" so it disconnects them

once again this is all just random assumptions so dont take any of it as fact or truth. Just giving my 2 grains. There have definitely been a bunch of disconnects today just look at recent topics.

  • to further back up my assumption, i just refreshed the forums and got a blue screen saying the server is full load currently try refreshing.

  • Wow people do this for some measly treasure lol?

Although I could see people do it just to troll and pizz people off.

  • @nevabud4u Then its not ddos.

  • @rutta highly unlikely it was a DDOS specifically aimed at that, there are a ton of threads over the last like 8 hours about random dc/almonbeard errors. @Nevabud4U if u remember there gamertags i suggest adding them and asking w*f happened. I wanna bet they also dc'd and are p****d.

  • @freecellqt I never got to see their names or I would be asking then questions. I know how unlikely ddossed attack is but due to my Internet also being affected I'm confident. Ive been ddosed in destiny so I know the signs... funny my wife just came in and asked what was wrong with the router. My router hasnt been down since I moved into my house alost a year now.

Just putting it out there so that people can be aware.

  • @nevabud4u
So a sloop has found a way to find out which server instance he is on, hacked into MS/Rare servers & ddos attacked a specific server to freeze an enemy ship & steal it's loot?
Do you realise how stupid that sounds??

ok you have no idea of ddos or anything with PC.

    no DDoS attack!

    /close

  • @nevabud4u i myself had a router issue after 4-5 almondbeards. Although it was actually really odd. I couldn't open any browsers and i couldn't do XBOX voice chat, BUT i was still sailing the seas and i could still send messages through XBOX. I had to restart my router and restart my IPHelper to get xbox voice to work.

but if it really was a DDOS on the server, u would have no effect on your router.

If it really was a direct DDOS on you, you obviously wouldn't be on the forum and would probably need a new router. (had a troll ddos me for 3 days before i got my new router)

  • @logansdadtoo maybe you think doing this attack is hard but it isn't, [mod edited]

Maybe this has something to do with a large number of players loosing connection....the "hackers" could be bopting everyone else off the server, even those who are not necessary their targeted victims.

  • @fearthebeardig you're wrong

  • @freecellqt it's called 4g and a cell phone

  • @freecellqt it's a pretty hefty penalty if you get caught ddosing people but the one guy who I knew that would ddos people on destiny didn't give a [mod edited], it actually they would recruit as many people as possible to help them. I agree it would be stupid for someone to ddossed for fort loot. That would give me like 13k and almost no experience at level 41. I already have 900k so it's not rrally about the loot I'm not even mad. I just wanted to come here and allow others to be aware that this could be happening. Call it fake, call me a liar, say I'm dumb, I don't care, just remember you heard it here first if it happens to you.

  • For everyone here it is possible for hackers to DDOS a person on here. Depending on how voice chat is done. If voice chat is peer to peer it would be easy to get people's IP addresses. Which these days peer to peer voice chat should not be in a video game.

Now I haven't checked to see if the voice chat is done peer to peer but it wouldn't surprise me if it is.

  • Seriously?????

  • @nevabud4u Same exact thing happened to me as I cleared a fort in my sloop. We teamed up with another sloop get to boss and almondbeard. I suspected foul-play but think it was just the servers.

    Yeah this is pure gold.
    All about him :P

  • @logansdadtoo yarrrrr!

  • I've seen people with c**p connections that'll lock up xboxes in the past

Had a few names I remembered in Forza I'd kick as soon as they joined for it. Not their fault but they'd cause half a lobby to lock up when they'd join

  • Late last night (or early this morning) a little after midnight we were two hours into the weirdest skull fort battle. It involved a Galleon we kept sinking but some how got back insanely quick... a sloop one of our party members could not see at first until he died, and a chase around the seas that I'd rather not have to repeat. We got the key and hid it on Devils Ridge. The other galleon crew was already on land when we got there but we managed to kill them hide and our other two crew mates made it back to us. The sloop was also in the middle of it all and were constant pests. We saw the sloop and galleon north of devils ridge and the galleon looked like it was sunk. We returned to crows nest with the key... and three of the galleon members were there and surprise attacked us (we saw no mermaids)... they sunk our ship but we killed them all and hid the key in the water (we all died for one reason or another as well) and even though they were at the island for like 10 minutes without us they couldn't find the key.

We returned, killed them again, sunk their ship, got the key, and right after we opened the treasure chamber we all got massive lag spikes. No lag at all in the server until right after we opened the chamber. Also the Galleon was already back on top of us again... We still managed to get six pieces of the best loot in there and left them the trash. We turned in and got 8k for those pieces... we weren't sure if the sloop and galleon were working together or not... it was all very strange... but alas we got our booty and docked for the night.

  • DDoS can be considered a Federal offence....I highly doubt it would be used to use a few gold coins in a game...

    **EDIT:**can't believe I'm feeding....

  • There is a glitch people are doing that causes themselves plus everyone within view distance to disconnect.

  • Had my whole crew disconnect last night with about 15-18 chests on board, none of us took it as a form of attack we just figure its the game servers mucking about. I imagine it would be hard for someone with no knowledge of your ip or home internets setup to find your info while sailing up on you in game and launch a ddos. It's probably just gameside/server issues. In my opinion/thought

  • @irhcsajr tell me more please, not interested in how to, just info about this phenomena as this is something i havent heard before.

  • @jimmy-voorhees how's the pension? hahahaha
