Cry More Why Don't You?

  • I found my first Chest of Sorrow the other day, at least that's what I think it was called. At first I thought the water spewing from the sides what just a cute gimmick, as though the chest was crying. Then I got it on board and it started to fill up my boat. My partner in crime started bailing as I quickly set sail to an outpost to get this thing turned in so we don't sink while looking for more treasure. To my dismay the chest stopped crying after a few minutes, and took away any urgency to turn in the chest. To this I suggest that the chest never stops crying, and even starts to spew more water the longer it is on a boat.

    Other chest suggestions:
Skeleton Chest: Will cause constant skeletons to spawn on your ship until you turn it in, progressively getting tougher and tougher. However the longer you have it on your ship the more gold it will be worth to maybe a cap of 3k or so.

Storm Chest: A chest that forms a small storm over you boat attracting lightning strikes until turned in.

Chum Chest: A chest that attracts multiple sharks when in the water. You can use this as a defense if being engaged up by dropping in the in water detouring would be attackers from swimming up to your ship and boarding. Also when you get sunk and all your treasures float for the enemy to gather, it would make it more difficult to plunder.

One thing I have found useful at least on the galleon (not sure about the sloop) is to place the Chest of Sorrows all the way out on the front bow of the ship. If placed correctly, the tears of the chest will just fall overboard in front of the ship providing minimum or no flooding.

  • @dj-deadscope

That is also possible. To be honest, it has been awhile since I have found a Chest of Sorrows.

@recklesshonor You have to remember that not everyone has a crew mate who can be a dedicated water bailer. For those of us who play solo the weeping chest is a hand full as is. I wouldn't recommend changing unless they were to base it on the number of people in crew.

    @dj-deadscope That's a good idea, I like it.

edit: added quote of post I was responding to.

Ha! great way around the flooding mechanic. I like it!

  • The only place it still works is holding onto it whilst on the ships ladders. The 1st few rungs down low are still safe.

  • PLayed over 100 hours now, seen that chest ONE time, through a bottle quest. So ehm...yeah im all for the crying all the time, as it is so rare it doesnt even matter.

And for a solo player? simple, dont take it, its not like its worth the hassle anyway.

  • @eraaam it works but there is a glitch where the chest will merge with the ship. Then it just feels like you have a crying ship. Luckily you can get the chest back of you scuttle it.

  • @haxxorsauruz

    It isn't?

Man, I get psyched when I get a Captain's Chest. I've gotten one Sorrows chest since launch and remember it being pretty rewarding. But maybe that's just me.

I dont even remember, i think its around 1000gold, not much more. The Grog barrel i got gave me 1200gold so yeah....

Chickens however can give me 1800gold if they are golden, and i only do gold and black voyages as its the only thing in this game that actually makes the long trips worth it.

  • @recklesshonor I don't know if it has to be in a chest but being able to use chum is a hilarious and great idea,

All great ideas. Would make the game more fun and less samey.

I do like the idea, This game is not meant to be played solo and they even warn you when you choose a solo pirate.
