@vin-delanos Just because it is marked does not mean they can find it easily especially if they are a casual player who just started the game and or learning to sail vs someone who has been playing for weeks.

Well perhaps some folks are far more casual than I give them credit for. Regardless, as some ultra-cas player bumbles around, trying to find his first treasure chest, how am I supposed to know if he has any treasure if I don't shoot him?

I notice the only argument that defends pvp are opinions that no one cares about. Do you know how you end this pvp controlling behavior in a game you form a massive white knight faction. The white knight faction protects each other and gather together to report a player who attacks one of their own. This is how pve players protect themselves in these kinds of games.
Doesn't work very well in a game where you can't choose your server, and names are mostly unknown until you get within 50 feet of someone.
@vin-delanos My point is not about it being their first chest or not but the fact that they do not have and might never have sufficient skills to go up against experienced crews that know exactly when to press the button.
There will always be extreme players and players that don't know left from right and to have these 2 go up against each other is pointless, and perhaps having players on similar levels on same servers can possibly help with this, this is just my opinion on fine tuning for the game and not something critical that needs to be dealt with immediately.
@funkefall29709 your attacking the wrong ships then, loot awards rep and gold that is the gold when sinking an enemy ship. Maybe wait till you see them go to a few islands or finish a fort.
The point most people seem to be missing is this:
Someone new to the game is only met by continuously being killed and sunk by other players, thus making absolutely zero progress towards anything.
Look at other games this has affected in the past. Every single one of them have since been given up on, based solely on the fact that the new player base doesn't get to do anything on the game. This leads to a domino effect that causes their friends already playing the game to want to play with said friend (the new player) on a different game that they can actually progress on.
I've watched so many PvP based games take a plunge because of this exact problem.Yeah, it would have been cool if Rare had implemented literally anything in terms of gameplay systems to guide player mentality and norms, instead of a complete free-for-all with no substantive death penalty for attackers.
But, well, they didn't. Incentives and disincentives guide overall player base mentality and the way things are setup (if having just about nothing counts as 'setup'), aggressive PvP, griefing etc is the most rewarding set of actions.
Once the honeymoon phase wore off very rapidly for me, just trashing as many ships as possible became the name of the game, because it's by far the most fun. Especially the huge battles that Skull Forts can encourage.
@lord-sphinktus just tried doing that for a PC griefer i encountered earlier and couldn't find them so i think this only works for xbox griefers unfortunately.
The more pvp the more fun the game. More risk and danger on the seas. More rewarding when you overcome the challenges and turn in your loot. You don’t see it that way? Constantly being vigilant, having to play smart, innovative strategies, diplomacy, backstabbing, betrayals lol is all here. How you use the tools up to you. Sailing around an empty ocean and collecting stuff is not this game’s main draw. You should be sailing, collecting engaging fighting defending attacking hiding running chasing, all that. And yes in the course of your adventures you will be dying and losing and having rough days. Sounds amazing to me =)

@vin-delanos all that player has to do is get enough of a glimpse to post your user name on the forum and considering how massive the player base who just want to be left alone is I'm sure it would work. Also they can just server hop till the get to the server they want to be in. It's not as easy as some of the other games but still do able and they can reserve server slots for pve players with the private crew function.
I think it would be more trouble than it's worth. Besides, just as you reference other games, I've seen it before - a bunch of casual PvErs get fed up and band together to go fight the PvPers, only to get their tails handed to them.
An alternative to all of this is for each play to just put a bit of care into their play session - don't get greedy, keep a lookout at all times, suspect everyone and anticipate the worst, action over reaction.

I don't think separating the lambs from the lions is a good idea. First it deprives the lambs of the opportunity to learn, and second it deprives the lions of a valuable source of prey.
Besides, I don't buy all of this goodie-two-shoes kumbaya mentality. If some nice grandma was standing in front of the hoarder's tent holding a captain's chest, I'm willing to bet that 90% of these so-called "peaceful casuals" would roll her in a heartbeat. Poor old lady.
I don't trust any o'ya
@juno-dawae it's a pirate game and a game that welcomes all kinds of players and if your a peacefully pirate your gonna run into these players but this is way i think they should add npc ai-ships (merchant) (gold hoarder) Ai-ships that do the voyages that they give us. plus these could be use as trade route and that way there are more ways to get loot. raid pc/ai ships to often then The Rare Navy would get a bounty for you and there feet would come hunt you down
@angry-popeye69 said in Aggressive PVP mentality is ruining this game:
@vin-delanos still if we can make it to where the pvpers are to afraid to attack for fear of enough reports that they get banned it will keep the pve community safe. If 1 ship attacks and 2 more show up to protect the one being attacked the pvp community will get fed up and leave them alone
Why would they get banned? Attacking other ships is one of the core mechanics of the game. Every ship comes with cannons and a ridiculous capacity for cannonballs, just for the purpose.
And, like I said, you're talking about a bunch of people who are complaining about not being good at PvP, suddenly nutting up and gitting gud at PvP.
If crews want to to this already, they can. See a ship being harassed, go harass whoever is harassing them. I did this the other day.
@angry-popeye69 said in Aggressive PVP mentality is ruining this game:
@vin-delanos or I can slowly keep getting people 1 person at a time you guys love to fill forums that dont involve you with spam once I get enough people I'll start a separate private forum so no one knows who's name is going up and stuff I dont even need to make the reports myself I can by a third party system and do it that way
I think you're really reaching here. I know all of this is what you want to happen, but it's not going to happen.
@angry-popeye69 said in Aggressive PVP mentality is ruining this game:
@nwo-azcrack hey I'm a convince people little by little as long as there are people who hate the pvp I'll be able to get followers
Well the next time a ship goes burbling into the deep while its owner is flailing wildly about in the water trying to get to my ladders, I'll make sure to think of you and your posse.
@juno-dawae do you want pirates to be friendly? it's a pvp game, and it gives to you all the opportunities you need to avoid combat if you don't want to fight. You can see another ship from miles! I really don't get this kinda of post...
@alphamattisimo I have honor so I know that if I’m getting spawn killed incessantly I’ve lost and I scuttle the ship thinking ‘nice one I get you back sometime tricky blighter’ as well most spawn kills are to secure victory over another ship and make sure they can’t repair.

Very much this. If I've clearly lost the fight, I move on. Let the victor have their spoils, you know?
(Thanks, btw, xbus6)

I think I have a solution for all your problems! Solution Here
Things like this have been suggested in other open world games that I play. Thing is, I don't want to sink ships and rob others in context of the Arena Faction Mini Game, I want to sink ships and rob folks (and have them prey upon me, in-turn) on the Sea of Thieves.
@juno-dawae it is in human nature to do what is best for oneself ,if you can't defend yourself that not the games problem

Very well put! Unfortunately Mike Chapman disagrees.
Mike Chapman- "For you to feel great in a multiplayer game, there has to be someone on the losing end." Here is the Interview
I had read the interview before, but thought nothing of what he said. Until this past couple weeks as I watched the forums devolve into chaos. Literally, PvE players are meant to be the content for PvP players. The game is designed that way. Kinda c****y if you ask me.
@touchdown1504 well yes but no. No you don’t have to win to feel good, most of the time yes but I honestly don’t really care (unless I had a REALLY big cargo load) about winning but about the fun I had along the way although winning is a bonus. However this is just my opinion but nice point gives you something to think about!

Kind of funny complaining about a*******s acting like...a*******s.
Unless they are spawn camping you, they are not griefing. They are simply playing the game.Anyway, while it sucks being chased or losing your hard earned loot, without pvp you would take away all the risk and tension out of the game.
I fixed that for you!
That is why I proposed to split XP away from gold. Check out my thread if you haven't already.
