@chermal
Let me start off with this, this is a good idea as BR games are really fun and enjoyable, they keep players on their feet and I play my own share in BR games too. I however do see why this idea for SOT has received backlash. Let me just point out, like you mentioned in one of your comments, pvp in SOT is great, it incorporates teamwork in ways no other game does. That being said, having a battle Royale mode would be confirming this unique gameplay style to a mainstream game mode where as what SOT is about is changing how people play the game. Pvp is a huge aspect of the game, however game modes like BR would be hard to incorporate in a game like this. They would come across many issues such as ship maneuverability with the storm closing in and as the eye shrinks, ships can only turn so much while being effectively functional in pvp. Another issue is it would take away the focus of the game which is to create a unique world and environment where there is a mix/ balance between questing and plundering, and ultimately creating your own story path in a complete anarchist world of SOT. Introducing a separate free BR mode would contradict the principles in which the game was created. Now, is your idea a bad one? No it’s a great idea, is it a practical one though? Not so much. It however does speak on the pressing issue of how Rare should incorporate aspects that enhance the gameplay of players who wish to focus on pvp and players who want to focus on questing.
I have started a thread here regarding different alliances they could launch to address the issues of gameplay content or enhanced pvp, feel free to post your ideas there!
