I would really like to have the option to select to play against only consoles. This is offered in several other Microsoft games. Anyone who has played a lot should have noticed that PC gamers have the upper hand in all fighting. It does make the game less fun on Xbox and the solution is so simple.
PC vs consoles
I completely agree with this sentiment, last night we were having all kinds of fun syncing and being sung by what I believe was console players but then we ran acrossed one boat was just invincible no matter how many barrels we exploded against its Hull or no matter how many people were shooting at one player they would not die and would not sink. And just feels like they're PC players either because they're really good or they're cheating and it just ruins the night throwing yourself at these Invincible players. I like cross play but I don't like it with PC much anymore at least on games with shooter mechanics
Yep I agreed with this would love to see server options as well as be nice to find out which server my friends and family are on to meet up and have a sail together I know this could increase ganging up on people with teams and stuff but not all of us are out to kill and steal just want to sail like the red arrows in ship formations across the ancient islands
@syringe Agreed! Also a great first game for Microsoft to implement the mouse and keyboard support for Xbox One that’s been rumored for so long.
I disagree! There is the option to increase controller sensitivity to be able to turn around more quickly. I can say that I’ve had no issues playing against other players. My crew usually consists of 2 Xbox players and 2 pc players. So it’s awesome to be able to link up with friends, and for other people to do so as well!
There may be a very small minority of PC player who can somehow cheat, but i'd guess the vast majority are just normal players having a laugh with mates who have an Xbox. I'm in this camp, PC player using an XBox controller sat on my laptop so no advantage at all over Xbox as i can see. The devs need to come down hard and stop any cheating but after that the game isn't one where there is any real advantage to most Pc players.

Okay first of all that does not mean that player is cheating. I am a PC player and I've seen moments where i'm shooting a person 4-5 times (hit marker shown) and they aren't eating bananas and still aren't dying. It has something to do with your ping, i don't know if you are able to check your ping on xbox. But on PC you are able to check your ping, i noticed when these situations are appearing it's when i have 300+ ping.
I've also noticed that the same thing happened to me, i came across a galleon and for some reason they couldn't kill me, i was on their ship kept killing them over and over while looting and sinking their ship, they kept calling me a 'Lag switcher', while for me they looked like a chicken without head running around on their ship not able to see me and shooting way to late. I engaged into voice coms with them and told them it might be related to their ping, since mine was just fine. But i don't know why but they hold such a high grudge against PC players, it was impossible to talk to them.
Sometimes when i'm joining a crew my ping is 300-400, other times it's below 30. It seems like the servers of this game doesn't connect you to the most optimal server for you. I wish it did that would resolve this whole issue 'invincible' like you stated.
I'll admit, I've finally had a run in with a solo sloop that, no matter how many shots we put into them, they still managed to control the helm, sails, pull anchor turns, man cannons, and patch their ship in a way that two seasoned players couldn't keep up with.
When we finally boarded them, (30 minutes later) I sat below deck and watched 4 holes, pouring water, and the ship not sinking. Also, unlike our ship, there were no patches from the +20 shots we must have put into this thing..... glitch, or owned?
Either way, the fight was hilarious. I'm fine losing, but seeing the ship had no patch work when I went below deck, was odd.
@calicochristian If that is the case would you be open to Rare nerfing the turn speed of your mouse? There are YouTube vids you can look at to see the difference in rotational speeds. It's clearly a huge advantage for PvP on a ship and even cannon aiming.

@apelovesbananas Where can one see their ping on a xbox?
I don't think you can mate. That's the whole problem. You run into people that are on xbox, they can't hit you or kill you and they automatically say you are hacking/cheating whatever. While their own ping may be the issue.
For PC players it's a setting you can toggle.
@syringe I killed three galleon pc players (i heard them say « he looks like a console player, let’s wreck him » ) before being killed by a shark.
Conclusion: No console only option, only shark nerf.@calicochristian said in PC vs consoles:
@weesalty-mug I’m using an Xbox controller with my PC.
First, I never said it was impossible to kill PC players with a controller. I said the PC turn speeds were an advantage. Traditionally this is with a mouse.
Second, Congratulations on having a controller. I'd be interested to see a video with your turn speed on your controller VS. the max turn speed on a Xbone.
I'm upvoting. The fact that KB/mouse have drastically finer control than a console/controller and therefore a massive advantage is WAY older than Sea of Thieves, and is the main reason why most titles that involve PvP combat don't allow cross-platform play even though the technogy/ability have existed for years... or they at least make it optional... which is what I think should happen here.
Make cross-platform an opt-in... or opt-out I don't care just make it optional.Well I'm mouse and keyboard. I'm really good at games like CS:GO and such. Usually xbox players are pretty easy to destroy. I'm sure there are some really good xbox players out there as well tho. Only a poor tradesman blames his tools.
But I've never been a fan of playing shooters on console with a controller, just feels inferior to me when I can jump in the air, do a 720, and pick your head with sniper rifle before I land on the ground with mouse and keyboard.
@calicochristian ...then that explains why you see no advantage on PC. Other players though, using a mouse, have a MASSIVE advantage over controller players.
@syringe I agree, but for a different reason. All the Xbox players I've run into are EXTREMELY toxic.
I play Sea of Thieves on both PC and Xbox. And I agree 100% that there should be an option to opt out from matchmaking with PC players. I and the rest of PC players using a keyboard & mouse have the upper hand in all situations against 9 of 10 using a controller.
But not only that. There is slowly becoming a problem with cheaters on PC. Something paying Xbox Live subscribers should not have to deal with. And on PC the load times are much shorter when loading back from dying.
So on one side you have Xbox players using a controller. And on the other side PC players using keyboard & mouse for much faster and more precise gameplay. Faster load times when dying. TWICE or higher the frame rate making them reacting even faster. And on top of that paying Xbox Live costumers have to deal with cheaters that is a growing problem.
So yeah. We need an option to disable cross play.
@baron-fireborn I tried the keyboard and mouse route with sea of thieves and I found ship to ship combat is better with a controller. Keyboard and mouse may go to the ground combat but honestly good strategy and team effort would negate that. Solo to solo, I’d say k/m goes to ground and ship to ship goes to controller.
@syringe Oh you're so wrong. I play on pc. You are right that you can turn super fast on pc but here is the issue with that. its not smooth if you have the sensitivity that high. the game is super choppy when you turn. i had to turn my sensitivity down to 8 on pc for it to not be choppy while turning and at that point i turn just as fast as when i use the controller on pc. I will only say this once. It is far easier to make smoother motions on a controller. the aiming w/ the mouse while aim down site on pc is harder imo then when aim down site on controller. i know from experience. to just blindly say we have the advantage because of mouse and keyboard is silly a lot of us choose to play w/ controller on pc....
@syringe They did a video a while back about the "upper hand" pc players have in this game and they said it was around a 4% accuracy difference. I've already spoken how i feel about this topic , but as a pc player this game has very weird pc control options (or lack thereof) which screams to me for parity and balance. The generous hitboxes on players and the weapons themselves(especially the blunderbuss which seems to be the most used), the eye of reach is atrocious for pc players unless you turn your dpi to crazy high levels which then in turn makes you turn and do a 1080 like tony hawk for just trying to turn 90 degrees. I know you wont beleieve me and thats fine the only advantage pc players have in my opinion is from movement and a minimal one on accuracy which the devs themselves have even stated. I think they did a decent job at balancing for both platforms even if it is a little odd playing the game on pc for me being used to certain things and feeling a certain way in other games.
@vox-tenebris How does their boat not sink lead to them "cheating" it could mean they had a decent crew who wasnt just standing there watching their boat sink. I really dislike when people think other people are cheating without it being a guarentee. Im not saying there isnt cheaters, but considering if you time your bannanas right you can heal before the person reloads etc alot of people swear people are invicible when they just outplayed the other person , simple.
