New Raids/New Tiering Up/New Factions/ New World Events

  • I've been thinking about ways to have more unique experiences out of this game. I've basically memorized the entire map while doing treasure hunts so I think there needs to be some new content.

The gameplay thrives when there's an event going on such as a Skullfort. The action, the cooperation, the betrayal, the loot it all gets amplified in those moments. There needs to be more of that "multiple ships converging to one spot" type of gameplay.

    New Events

    1.) Escort Event:
Through a marker in the sky (similar to the Skullfort but different to allow the distinction of both events) on an outpost, players will be drawn in (there would have to be an NPC ship there for the rest of the event to make sense). Players will have to talk to the Trading Company person in order to start this event. Once started, the marker will change color and the people who started the quest will have to escort the Trading ship will all of its goods to another outpost. Players can team up with other squads to help them defend the treasure or try to destroy anyone who comes near. For pirates attempting to steal the treasure from the original squad, they have to destroy the ship escorting the Trading ship along with the NPCs that are on the Trading ship.
note: I've thought about having an artifact that players need to escort instead but that wouldn't be nearly as fun and would not give the same dynamic.

2.)Destroy the Ship Event: (couldn't come up with a better name, sorry)
This one I can keep short since its pretty simple. A skeleton ship with loads of treasure sails the sea (this too should also have a marker). The ship needs to be a bigger ship than a galleon to be a bigger challenge for players. A bigger challenge also means players will have to strategize how to take down this ship. Having bow and stern cannons on this ship is a must.

If we ever do get three events in SoT, a three hours cooldown for each event would be appropriate, however, no two events should go at the same time and they should be staggered. What I mean by this is on the first-hour event 1 goes, second-hour event 2, third-hour event 3, fourth-hour event 1 again and so forth.

    Tiering Up

I've also thought about having trails to go up tiers in factions instead of just paying with gold.

    Gold Hoarders:
Paying them gold makes sense since that's all they want.

    Order of Souls:
Through dialogue with the Order of Souls person when trying to tier up the player gets teleported to a dark spooky room and their objective is to kill a certain number of skeletons with limited time. The number of skeletons would change based on what tier you're going up to. Also to avoid repetitiveness there should be other challenges and rooms (maybe certain rooms are their own challenge to deal with). I feel like loading would be a nightmare but if it works then it would be a great addition to the game.

    Trading Company:
I'm not sure what could happen here. Maybe you need to get some lost supplies? It would be a hassle for players to do that every 5 levels so I don't know.

    New Factions

    Redcoats:
This isn't my idea, however, I do think that it's too good of an idea. This faction would be a PvP faction that would give you rewards for destroying other ships. Maybe they could also give you bounties for ships that are doing really well as far as acquiring a lot of loot or having a lot of kills.

Let me know what you think and if you have any other ideas!

  • Some cool ideas

  • thanks bud

  • cool ideas! Would like to add on another here.

Races - Give us regattas and events we can join in to see who can handle the ship better and take advantage of the winds.

  • Give it up. Two weeks has passed...many more since they actually finished the game and today's patch offer a glimpse of what's to come ... very little. Not even a new shirt ?

  • @extrabig-doinks must have more events!!

Order of Souls ~ Rifts 👍
Gold Hoarders ~ Paying Gold 👍
    Man'o'War World Boss Battle 👍
    Escort Voyages 👍

One question. What do we use as currency if Gold Hoarders take all the gold? I would like to scavenge for materials.

  • @extrabig-doinks Put a bounty on a crew randomly and the hunt begins.

  • Have there been any events? FC5 is already running an online event.

  • good ideas

  • I totally agree with what you said about the Skull Forts and a lot of your ideas sound very interesting, especially your idea for ranking up in The Order of Souls. It would definitely make the ranking system feel much more special and thematic. I too have ideas of content for the game, heres the link if you'd like to check it out:https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/48661/a-new-pvp-focused-region-idea . I'd love to hear positive or negative response because I'd like to know what to improve on.

  • @ich-bin-whitey Nope, they say one is coming soon though.

As someone who used to sail in regattas, this would be a great addition to the game! However, I think that the developers need to make the speed you get from angling your sails correctly more pronounced. Currently, it's too hard to catch up to a ship even if your sails are perfectly set and theirs are less than perfect. As the game stands now, races would just be whoever gets a barely better start and they could just keep that lead the entire way through.

Once they fix that regattas should most definitely be a thing!

  • @dutchdeadschot Yes, we do!

  • @lnin0 With all the bumps that they had at launch I don't think its crazy to think that they're focusing on the core game they have right now before moving onto anything else.

But they better do something content wise quickly or else they risk losing all of their player base.

  • @extrabig-doinks Cool ideas mate. But the game launch was just now, give Rare time to actually make new stuff before you whine about the game

  • @extrabig-doinks I liek everything but the PvP faction. PvP is an important part of the game, no doubt, but rewarding it more than it is already rewarded seems like a bit much. Ships would end up just camping outposts.

If something like this was implemented they would have to change how other things in the game work. If you were given half of your reputation for completing a voyage, and then the other half for turning it in, or something like that, it could work. I'm just worried that less skilled players, or people that don't want to PvP are going to have their experience ruined by a system that encourages that behavior.

Well, the Goal Hoarders wouldn't take all the gold they would just do what they do now, which is taking a small fee to level up.

I think there should be more materials in the game but they would need a purpose. Also, the current materials should spawn more often and barrels should have more of the materials in them because gathering cannon balls and bananas is just another grind.

This is a whole other thing, but weapons shouldn't be just cosmetic. If we got different materials in the game we should use those materials and some gold to give to the arms dealer to get upgrades for our weapons.

I think the same could go for the ships but there is such a high skill cap for the ships that 9/10 times the better crew wins.

Outfits should also just be purely cosmetic because we want people to be able to dress how they want.

I wasn't trying to come off as whiny. I just really want this game to be better than what it is. I've spent a lot of time thinking about how it could be better and wanted to share my ideas.

I also just saw Rare post on their Instagram spreading the word about their forums and how if you have any ideas you should share them. Thanks for the support but maybe don't think as everyone posting their ideas as whiny but instead just passionate about this game and want to see it do its best.

That's a good point. I guess I always have the cut-throat type of vibe when I play so I've never thought about it from that angle. I feel that having safe areas would take away from the immersion of the game which is important to the devs as they have said before in interviews.

I think all experience should be earned once you've completed the quest and you get the gold when you return it. That way farming the PvP faction wouldn't also help you boost your other factions at the same time.

It's great that you want to support the devs, go you. It just seemed like you were doing what all the other whining people on here is.

I love this game, and I've played it for 4 days now. Gotten quite high in reps in all three factions. I would love more, but I have more than enough fun with this game as it is now, both solo play and with mates. Seeing as it just launched I think it's too short of a time frame for people to crave new content already because they have their attention on only certain aspects of the game and not the game in its whole. It gives you tons of options to do whatever you please. It's somewhat of a rule-less game. It is a Pirate game after all. "Make do with what you got" is something I think a lot of people in general to day needs to adapt to. Tons of things gets heeps better with a similar mindset.

I guess we both want to help the game in our own ways.

  • I wanted to throw this idea out there as a way to encourage a different type of play that adds another high risk high reward element other than forts. Has Rare considered a pirate black market? I think there should be one island where stolen goods can be sold. Instead of robbing people and going to the closest outpost you should have one location centrally located where you can sell your ill gotten gains. I mean that IS what a pirate does right? the payouts would be similar to the existing tiers in the game however would payout a little more for the risk. This black market would reward you more with xp for the different companies since you are plundering like a true pirate should. It would allow you level up in large chunks like a fort does and the risk is already there considering people tend to fight back. To keep it fair.. ish and limit trolling if you are in a sloop you should have to take down a galleon and if in a galleon it has to be a galleon or something like that otherwise the sloop would be irrelevant. The reason i think this would work well is because last night me and my friends made it to the fort captain had our ship sunk, left one person on the island, high tailed it back, the other team killed the captain and opened the vault right when we got back, we killed them sunk them, took the loot ran they chased, we got hit by the Kraken, defeated it (no achievement for it though.. tsk tsk Rare) sailed around an outpost through a storm taking two items at a time to shore and taking a mermaid back and doing it again. It was the most intense, frantic, adrenaline rushing experience I've felt in a game in a looong time and I loved every sec of it! The game literally hit us with everything and we won. That is a satisfying feeling. I think this black market thing could be very similar and enjoyable as well. Obviously this is a very high level look at it but there is a system here to build off. I think it would result in fun fights at the black market site and multiple ship battles. or you can be sneaky and try not to fight at all. What do people think?

Still sounds silly. They are not getting all the gold if they hand it away. Haha

I think there should be more materials in the game but they would need a purpose. Also, the current materials should spawn more often and barrels should have more of the materials in them because gathering cannon balls and bananas is just another grind.

I mean more like wood, leather, iron, wool and the like which we could use to craft items.

This is a whole other thing, but weapons shouldn't be just cosmetic. If we got different materials in the game we should use those materials and some gold to give to the arms dealer to get upgrades for our weapons.

Items with tactical values and situational dependencies, not upgrades. At least no bloating number games. The one in the middle of the Pirate Legend should be removed because it bloats repetition and stretches the gameplay out of proportions making the activities feel empty in the long run. Every item with tactical value and situational dependencies, however, are welcome.

I think the same could go for the ships but there is such a high skill cap for the ships that 9/10 times the better crew wins.

I think that's the intended point. The crew with most skill and knowledge wins the battle.

Outfits should also just be purely cosmetic because we want people to be able to dress how they want.

I don't mind these having tactical values too and situational dependencies. As long as they don't limit players when they clash with each other beyond reason and balance.

Currently it is an added risk to show your outfits because, in relation to the tiered reward system, they can be utilised by griefers. Anyone dressed with specific items will have a specific kind of target on their backs.
