Looks like it's dying to me (the owner of a massive SOT club). Love how this game was sold as a choose your own path (action/adventure/quest based game). When in fact SOT only encourages players to become a mindless spawn camping twit who ignores everything that should make SOT great. How about we get honest here renaming it 'Sea of Halo Campers'. There's truly no other choice at all. Love the game but it desperately needs dedicated servers or something. Many good gamers are fleeing this game sooner than expected. Seeing we bought Sea of Halo Campers based on a choice to play one way or another that is not available what-so-ever... We're just about ready for a refund. Yours truly, many disappointed gamers.

Still one of the top viewed games on Twitch besting many popular games. I don't see any sign of the game dying. I hear all the complainers, but they are usually the loudest people. The people who really do enjoy the game aren't complaining, they are playing!

Except 1) free trial would only affect playercount, what you're looking at is about viewer count 2) the stats i posted above cover the 2 weeks free trial period, not after, why would we see such a drop in viewer count BEFORE the end of the free trial ?

it proves stream viewership doesn't represent the playerbase, free players decided throughout the trial that they weren't intersted, based on those who watch streamers anyway, and by 10 days or so it leved out and has stayed constant, and again that's stream viewers

Someone said it was still on top of twitch, i proved him wrong. Hell, stats aren't even necessary, you just have to look for yourself, SoT is now in 19th position. It was on the top 5 the first few days. And it dropped quick, before the end of the game pass free trial, so the free trial has nothing to do with it.
It proves that past the novelty factor, people are not interested to watch people playing SoT, don't you think that reflects pretty well every critics about the game out there ? About the game being repetitive and shallow ?
Some games must rely on heavy content to maintain players, some games don't, it all depends on the nature of the game.
And yes, Twitch reflects very well the success of a game, look at the game that are thriving on Twitch : CS, DOTA, LoL, Pubg, Fortnite. The free game pass trial has ended.
Less complaining now that they moved on.
The rest of us that payed $60 are enjoying the game.

More than simply the Game Pass players have left.
People who bought the game are selling it on Ebay and Gamestop now. They are also returning them to the place of purchase.
We have no information from Rare that any meaningful content will be released soon. In fact even as of today's patch they still have not addressed well known bugs that have been plaguing the game since the Beta. They even recognize some (but not all) in the patch notes with literally no information on plans to fix them.
The idea that it did not have a season pass is an absurd thing to be happy about. Gamers should not be "happy" about an incomplete game regardless of whether future efforts that may or may not happen to fix the game is going to cost money.@perfecshionist
Friday The 13th: The Game is limping it's way to 2019 and bleeding out the player base slowly.
The point is it lacks content and I played it for 1 year and put 1,000 hours into it.Sea Of Thieves is fun if you have a galleon crew, with mics, that know how to play.
I'm having fun for what the game is. Not a fan of playing solo. It's boring.

@echodoctrine if you played on a PVE server why would it matter how many active players are in the game. The number of players only matters in a PVP game. The PVE people can move on because basically they just want to play with themselves anyhow.

I did not mention PVP and you assumption that on PVE players are leaving has no evidence to substantiate it. There are no PVP incentives and PVP has issues as well right now.
Besides, the thing you claim is keeping you in the game- the sailing physics - is really a PVE aspect of the game.

Oh yeah, and what do you bring in the game, what do you bring in the game that is so much better compared to PvE players ? This game is not pure PvP, no matter how you wish it to be. It has both PvE and PvP for a reason. I do like PvE and PvP also, and I do not want to play on by myself and I am pretty sure I am not the only one, so stop generalizing.
Since launch? I'm sure numbers have plummeted if that's your starting point. Even if the game was universally hailed, numbers would have dropped off after 15 days.
As for forum activity - some of that can be explained by the fact that people are spending time actually, y'know, playing the game. Rather than sitting here waiting for release, and talking about it.
That isn't to make excuses though. I imagine a solid chunk of the player drop-off is due to people bouncing off the game - either because they disliked the experience, or got their fill of what limited content is on offer, and moved on.
It's way too early to assess whether any of this constitutes the game "dying" though. Every time new content comes out for the game, they will get a spike of players coming back to see what's new. If the game hits a point where it has enough in it for genuine longevity, they may be able to slowly rebuild a solid core of longtime players.
On a related note, this is also why I think they need to start a consistent drip of new content as soon as possible, rather than their originally stated plans of a new content blast after a few months. Even for people currently still enjoying their time with the game... I'm not sure who is left after three whole months.

As someone who doesn't even watch streamers, except for streamed developer blogs, Twitch is a very good indicator of how well the game is doing. That's basically what I actually use it for, especially if the game isn't on steam, because there is steam charts for that. When this game was #1 on twitch, everyone was playing it. When it started to drop extremely fast, the forums even got empty. Kind of shows what's happening.
Of course people of leaving, I mean come on there were two major screw up's in my eyes that RARE didn't bother to address. First one was that epic 9 hour wait after the first patch and the second one was after people discovered that there is no content after achieving Pirate Legend. I don't care what kind of company it is even if its the best selling 30+ years in the business, you cannot just ignore your community and say nothing. As for the people that actually stayed good for you, if you found some way to keep yourselves entertained. Finally is it dying I think it will die if the company that created it keeps this attitude be it after 3 months or whenever they release some new content, because I don't think they will learn from the mistakes they made so far, because they don't consider them mistakes in the first place. I played tons of games and in my experience game's that died were the games that were created by companies adopting the silent game ("Microsoft Style").
I stopped playing after several sessions of playing. After I realized what it had to offer and how incorrect I was for thinking it was going to be something else, I realized I made a $60 mistake. Kudos for those who gush over this game and love it, but I find it boring. I'll wait I guess. But for now, I don't really have a hankering to log in. Heck I have more fun playing Duke Nukem 3D.

my guess on the matter tou is that there isnt anything new to talk/complain about. I hope we get a new wave with the "upcoming" big patch where many ppl cant resist to try the game once more. Also I agree that the lackluster of communication from Rare keeps all the discussions a guesswork which is discuarging.

I would say its dropped a huge amount tonight we had one of the best game sessions we have had the last 5 days or so prior where just death matches....
Tonight we logged on went sailing got to the first island and when killed some skellys came back and a sloop tried to Ram us we jumped onto their ship killed them and tried to beach it only to notice the new member of our crew who was at the helm was standing next to us and our gallion heading straight at the rocks..... was quite funny lol after that we spent a few hours adventuring around had another scrap with another crew and then had another hour of adventuring was a fun night.
It was closer to the fun we had in the testing phases so Im happy and sad that the game is loosing players but happy the toxic players are getting bored with just treating this game like a pvp death match game and not an adventure game...

Both sides deserve the blame for that in my opinion. I would also say there had been a noticeable decrease in moderation since about the end of the TA which seems to allow some threads to run longer then they should or flame up. Lately I have been seeing a few new Rare mods making a presence which is kind of exciting though.
It'll be fun watching what the community and/or Rare does to restimulate this place.

They love playing the game but hate watching it because it can be very boring to watch. I personally enjoy playing and watching Golf though. I don't enjoy watching SoT but love playing it.

But I believe you have told me the game should not ADD options for players....
like PvE modes, Passive feature, etc..... you know Features and stuff to keep MORE players around. Was that you or one of the other folks saying it.or hopefully its not from some folks telling everyone "Get Gurd, Its a Pirate game if they don't like it go play Candy bear Crush"
But I doubt my response above will change anyone's minds.
