  • But if everything was cheap and easy to buy there wouldn't be much value in what you are buying. People are already complaining about lack of content as it is...

    It's part of the game...

  • @chucky1slice The prices do seem high, but I've been playing since launch day and I already have a pretty sweet outfit, pistol, shovel, lamp, compass, spyglass, ship figurehead, ship sails, and I'm only 5k or so off from a ship hull. That's with like 2 weeks of gameplay. It could stand to have some cheaper options intermixed in there, I agree, but overall what we get for the gold is worth it right now.

  • I thought the prices were too high at first. But once I figured out how to farm efficiently it doesn't bother me.

I can easily take in 70K in 12-14 hours.

Lack of meaningful content to be a bit more specific. Just by removing bloated content makes us realise how much there really is bloated content and how much content there really is to begin with.

Depth is not gained by stretching the marathon with another mile, but by telling the player to look around while they wander forth.

  • My problem isn't with the rate at which you can accrue money, or the ratios of money earned vs. item cost, more just with the actual values and their psychological impact.

I'm walking around with three thousand gold and can't afford to buy anything, which just feels ridiculous. A coat costs nearly thirty thousand, a value that makes no sense to me whatsoever.

My suggestion would just be to cut all money values - quest rewards, sold items, and item costs - by 90%.

If I had three hundred gold, and the coat would cost me 2,700, that feels much more achievable, even if I'm earning only 20 gold for a chest instead of 200, because I don't feel like I'm carrying a small fortune in doubloons that's still, somehow, insufficient to pay for basic clothing.

  • @demondownload agreed, move the decimal place over a notch or two and it starts to feel a bit more believable at least. Just pretend your money is all 1 cent pieces.

also, I feel like the bilge rat clothes should cost less than the others? for what I hope are obvious reasons?

You don't have to make everything cheap, just at least have some progression. Right now the Bilge Rat items cost roughly half of all others. Why not have a base price and then multiply it by 1, 1.2, 1.4 ... so that there are actually outfits in every price region?

  • @x1-two the thing is they are all locked behind alliance levels so you need to unlock that to get access. The gold represents what is reasonable after getting to that level. Perhaps the levels themselves could be lowered but as I said, people with more time to play then lose out.

The fact that people are making threads complaining it's too hard to get stuff at the same time as people complaining there isn't enough probably indicates that Rare have done a good job at balancing it.

  • I have 350k and can buy literally any set of items I want, so....

  • I own 3 full ship customizations and all clothing and guns I want. Still have 200k gold.

I'd say prices are fine where they are.

  • I've bought all gear I want, all clothing, and full ship customizations and now I'm just collecting gold with no use... So it's not unreasonable prices

It's not the betas with only 2 days to do whatever you want, you got as much time as you want now, so if you could get everything easier and probably by level 10... then it just feels like less of an accomplishment and you have nothing going on but uneventful grinding for the next 40 levels

My advice, just focus on leveling the factions and you're gonna have everything well before you get legend

  • @chucky1slice I'm sorry but it doesn't take that long to get money I have 78k Gold and I obtained that in 2 days of play the games gold income is fine if you want mega money do skull forts with friends.

  • What it really comes down to is a matter of balancing not just the cost of items vs how quickly you can earn gold to buy them in order to keep the game engaging, it's a matter of balancing how much grind you need to have to keep people who have a lot of available time to play engaged before they run out of things to buy, against how much grind it is fair to expect of people who don't have as much time, and so end up taking days if not weeks to get their character fully kitted out with basic cosmetics, that can be very disheartening if you're putting as much time as you can spare into the game and not feeling like you have much to show for it.

The solution is to first make the basic tier of stuff much cheaper so you can get your character reasonably well dressed and kitted out to begin with in a relatively short amount of time, then have way more in the way of tiered cosmetics like the fancier versions of the faction vendor items but for the clothes/weapons too so that people who have plenty of time to grind all the gold in the world will have fancier and more expensive versions of their stuff to keep upgrading to later on to prove that they're the fanciest captain of all.

  • @chucky1slice First of all its not to high, im already seeing tons of ships and players fully decked out, what I dont like is the fact we were promised all these customization so many that people will be able to recognize and fear your ship. WRONG!!! last night I counted 4 galleons all with the exact same hull sails and mount on the front. all on the same server and at the same spot fighting over the skull fort. Seeing a lot of matching sloops too. you cant recognize one ship from another.

  • Gold is not an issue. I make 60k gold in four hours with merchant quest.

  • @chud-stuffens how ? Skeleton forts ?

  • @chucky1slice

This game is a joke. Except for teenagers, fathers and their underdeck sons, and ageing casuals.

Fun for a while, the worst let down in years. It's cool though, the most popular game of our time is absolutely free, it balances things out ;)

  • It's pretty reasonable. You get gold relatively quickly.

  • @rainbowspace770 lol? Except when you see a price tag for an item on your ship cost 100k more than the 70k version and you notice the only difference is maybe a change in eye color or something as miniscule as that ..

They added the same item....changed 1 color .... And doubled the price....nothing screams good job about that or balanced.

  • I don't have any other problems with the game is just th inflation

  • I'm not sure they are that inflated. Inflated from beta, but reasonable when you think about how long it takes to earn money.

  • @rainbowspace770
That's because they took the lazy route.

I would rather have 20 cheap sets, giving me more choice, instead of what we currently have - 4 expensive ones.

Merchant Quests. Only do the gold animal missions and you'll rake it in.

We do Forts too when we get the chance but usually the time put in isn't worth the return.

2hrs at a fort that's contested to maybe get 14k.

I can make 4k+ off a single double golden animal quest and it takes maybe 15 minutes to complete.

  • @chud-stuffens thanks, so I should cancel quests until I have gold animals to catch ?

Correct good sir. And make sure you're hitting shipwrecks too

That’s pretty awesome. I am making about 25k per 12 hours playing solo.

  • @chud-stuffens

Gold and black animals are most valuable. Golds go from 1k to 1.8k and Blacks go from 6-800

  • @chud-stuffens okay, what about reputation ? Do I get a lot of reputation as I get a lot of gold ?

  • Reputation is directly tied to how much gold you are making for each faction.

  • @rainbowspace770 said in PLEASE, CREATORS... LOWER THE INFLATION:

It's 100% both, there is absolutely nowhere near what there should have been in for launch and the few items that are there, have been artificially inflated to make you play longer.

    Yeah, no thanks.

  • @demondownload I don't disagree and in earlier tests, this was the case. Less money was earned per chest. The prices were also lower (partly to allow purchase in reduced timeframes). There was some outcry that the rewards for finding buried treasure wasn't high enough if I remember correctly. I think this lead to increased incomes and as a result increased purchase prices to keep ratios in line.

  • Prices are fine just give us more customization to choose from. For a game all about cosmetic progression......... where is it! aha There is but a tiddlywink. I want way more. I guess it comes after legend? I hope.. There is soooo much we have seen in videos that is no where to be found.

  • There would have to be an economy for there to be inflation. The prices are set based on factors unrelated to any potential economy.

  • @tine-sionnach I think this is the big problem. There are a handful of ship customisation options and let's face it, there are definitely the better looking options which I am seeing used a lot.
I don't know how difficult it would be, but if you could buy individual patterns or colours and apply them in a more customised manner, I could see some truely individualised ships.
Be able to choose the basic hull colour and then what colour the grog tankards or diamond shapes are. Maybe be able to put a different set of decals on the front and the back for further custom options.
It just feels too controlled. Maybe that is to help with servers not having to push heaps of info but I've seen it work on games like NFS in multiplayer where you can do basically any number of layers of decals in different colours. Feels like this would be a good system for this game.
Edit. To clarify, I concentrated on ship customisation because this is the big identifier in game and should be the most customisable part. I think we will get even specific bonus bits that we can customise our outfits with and if you buy a few different outfits, you can mix and match for some pretty out there combos.
