PvP makes it impossible to play

  • Playing 2 player yesterday, clear the skull island all on our own, as soon as the captain is dead another ship comes and sinks us, kills us and takes all the chests
Today login playing solo, go to 1st island 2 players appear and kill me, steal the chest i just got and run the ship into the rocks (with 4 chicken coops) i respawn just as it's sinking and the 2 players jump on mer again.

This is more common than not, what is the point of playing when i can't do anything??

  • @werna I agree with you, but get ready for the avalanche of "learn how to play the game" and "this game is not for you" in all their variants

  • Yeah, sorry for the side of the community you're probably about to have to deal with.

PvP is a pretty ever-present part of this game, so I'd say just keep a wary eye out for other ships as often as you can.

  • @werna They need to balance these things out . But a lot of the Battle Royal type players will come and tell you how you just need to get better at dodging others. That you can't possible shoot the canon, steer the boot and fix the ship at the same doesn't matter if you get away.. which is a dumb way of looking at it since what if you are doing missions that take longer and your not on the boat like you said. Rare needs to come forth and say if the game is a PvE with PvP in it or PvP with PvE in it, but doing so will turn away half of the people either way. If it is a PvP game then just make a circle and make it become smaller and sell that like everyone else does.

  • It's funny how all three people that agree with you also provided you with the facts. :)

  • @werna Solo is very difficult and I try to avoid it as much as possible. 2v4 can also be difficult but this is where you have to exploit the maneuverability of the sloop to fight off the galleon.

  • I'll say it shamelessly. Get better about your situational awareness. Keep an eye on your horizons all the time. The only encounters I get in are ones where I choose to engage or I was lazy and let my guard down.

It has always been advertised as a pvpve game where you should always be cautious of other ships. It's neither more one or the other as some people are trying to make it out to be.

First why do people keep bringing battle royale players into these conversations? PvP style games existed long before those types of games. Some of us have never indulged in a battle royale style game and yet we still understand the concepts of a PvP style game.

Secondly, why does it have to be PvP with bits of PvE add in or vice versa? The game is clearly both. Its a PvPvE game. Some days I can log in and all I do is run loot and never run into other ships, while other days I'm fighting off ships straight out of the gate. Some days I'm doing both. The whole idea is that your experience can constantly change, it's never guaranteed one or the other, nor should it be. For many players the thrill and excitement come from the unknown.

  • @werna Not all pirates run around and dig treasure. Some pirates fight for their loot

  • PvP is play

OK then how do they fight for loot when i don't have any?? can't get any??
They turn up after 5 mins or less at the island i'm on trying to kill skeletons during 2nd or 3rd wave before the captain appears

  • @werna https://www.twitch.tv/videos/246270257 check this m8
sorry for no english video ;)

  • Today i was followed for more than 1 hour
I managed to get some loot went to 2 outposts with ships at each outpost, the second ship followed me for an hour, another ship appeared and followed for 20 mins, so i had 2 ships following me around
How are you supposed to progress in a game like this??

  • @werna seriously check the video I recoreded. Use it like a tutorial

  • I know what you mean @Werna . I wish I could just log in and do fetch quests and fight 3 different skeletons all day instead of dealing with a sea full of thieves.

  • That's what happens in this game. I spent 1 and a half hours completing a solo voyage to just lose my earnings to a team of 2.

I got so mad, I had to stop playing!!

The following day, I was in a galleon crew of 4, and you know what, we destroyed another galleon and took their hard earned work clearing a Skull Fort. We stole their Key, and beat them down until we were able to grab all the treasure and turn in things ourselves.

And you know what? I was happy doing that. Rinse and Repeat on several other gaming occasions when me or my crew lose our hard-earned treasure or steal others' hard-earn treasure.

What goes around will somehow come around in the Sea of Thieves.

Go have fun and F someone up the same way you were F'd up. You'll feel better when you pirated some treasure.

  • @werna If you're trying to do forts best advice is find a solid team, might take some time. But if you aren't experienced enough to do it solo/duo (not trying to insult you) you'll simply be better off with a galleon. Doing it with 3 others is a massive difference. The respawn changes make sinking much more punishable too so sloops will have a much harder time doing forts now, especially if you're alone. All it'd take is 1 powder keg to your ship while you're on the island doing the fort and you'll be miles out next time you die. Best of luck

  • @werna Another trash post.. Here we go again! So I advice you to just practise instead of complainin' here as it's pointless it doesn't give you anything, oh, sorry it does actually embarrassment. I don't want to offend you but I estimate that you're young guy who has just a short-lived enthusiasm. Maybe you're weak now but it doesn't mean that you will be weak all the time. And by the way - I didn't write it just to you I try to say that to anyone who I see complainin'. Have a nice voyages and just do not talk about that anymore. This game is supposed to be PVP if you cannot handle it just give it up. Cya at sea ;)

no its always been advertised as a shared world gaming experience that rare wants and hopes is a POSITIVE gaming experience for everyone. doesnt sound like pvp or pve to me sounds like you make it what you want oh wait they say that as well to create your own stories and adventures

  • @mystic-clapton so that whole bit about being wary of other ships on the horizon as they're players was them telling you that youll have a grand ole time and nobody attacks each other ever?

Them saying that the treasure isn't truly yours until you sell it is them saying it won't ever be stolen?

Did you miss the many advertisements and trailers that showed players attacking each other?

Like I said it has always been advertised as a pvpve world where you have to be wary of other ships.

Building a community doesn't mean you have a nice friendly gaming experience every time you log in. Building a community can mean many things. As a playerbase coming together to support the game. As a crew coming together to support each other. But never does it mean, in a world where players can kill each other, that you're safe from people out to PvP.

  • @crash4654 no i didnt but doesnt mean its pvp just means its a community a living thriving world. you live in it you play in it you make it what you want i didnt use to think that way but as there is no chance of it just being one way or having it split i have learned when to fight who to fight and when to just avoid any and everyone whether i have a crew of 4 or am solo i got lucky once and literally dodged every single cannonball shot my way during a battle at the fort from ship and fort

  • Awww...other salty buckwasher looking to get the devs to make it easier on em..should request pvp armor/weapon progression instead of just crying about getting killed and sunk. I see this thread getting locked soon...another cancer post

“Learn how to play the game “
    Agreed agreed agreed
    Oh and this 2
“This game is not for you”
With what you said above Op
I can take on galleons no problem 1 man sloop, can’t get 50 with relying on others.

i say lucky cause i have tried alot since that day and have yet to do the same lol

  • I doesnt mind getting ambushed while on a mission, makes part of the exitment. But i really hate it that outpost are no savezones. Because you can avoid and sail away from orhers as much as you want, they will get you at the outpost. And there is nothing you can do because unloading takes time.

  • @werna yea that's the game. I think the player base will dwindle pretty quick especially with the grind.

I have been tracking my merchant quests and I average about .07% rep per minute at level 31. I already have more gold then I know what to do with. Added that to a grind and pvp slowing you down so much when legendary doesn't even have any real advantage except more cosmetics.

  • the problem with PVP is it is unbalanced. You use all your resources to sink there ship that you don't get rewarded for. just to have them re-spawn nearby with a fresh ship to sink you... where is the Rewarded In that!

  • They need to work on the balance for sure.

I end up avoiding PvP a lot not because it's not fun but because.

    • Most times a ship attacks me they it's because they have nothing to lose (no loot) and I do
there's no incentive for me to risk my stuff for no reward.
    • Makes it just a waste of time and resources (balls/bananas/planks)
    • Losing a fight means losing EVERYTHING that I have just spent time getting, there needs to be a way for players to get rewarded for playing the PvE even if they get sunk.

It would be nice if maybe completing a voyage came with a coin bonus that got bigger based on player rep.

It would be nice if there was a way to retain 1 or 2 of your most valuable items somehow, maybe a 'lockbox' on the boat, that chests stay in even if the boat gets sunk. Then enemies still get rewarded for sinking you and looting whatever didn't fit in the box but at least you still have a chest to turn in.

It's bad for player retention to have situations where people are playing your game for hours and come away with nothing. Leads to people just turning it off out of frustration, this way you are probably unhappy you lost most of your treasure, but at least you still have that one good thing to turn in.
