@dairadh well Rare has put their foot down on the idea of PvE servers or Solo only mode so a bunch of people probably were like "okay screw you then" and with people getting all upset of the pirate legend status (seriously, you guys are missing the point of this game) you have people like the guy above you who just want them to make it battleships with no PvE nonsense.
Wait? what, where or when did Rare put their foot down and say PvE servers or Solo only was not happening? I haven't heard anything from them in last week.
PvE-only areas
"Never," says Chapman.@grunt said in This game has a serious bully problem.:
its a pirate pvp game its kill or be killed
Pirates never attacked each other. They attacked merchant ships.

@dahkohtlewin i bet they will happen eventually though they will need as many people as possible to buy the microtransactions so i give it a year and there will be some sort of safety net whether we like it or not, money and player numbers rules this industry they will do what they need to keep both as high as possible
not a fan of a pve server but they will get something inside the next year
would pve servers or safe zones put me off the game, not really would add more thrill to the chase to get them before a safe zone and if they got a pve server not likt 90% of the playerbase will just play on it you will still have your blood thirsty pvp'ers to fight
in my opinion most pvp warriors want easy targets and not people who fight back, had my fare share of galleons attacking me and turn tale when my crew start beating the c**p out of them they sink and we get abuse because we chased them for 20 min lol
^ yeah Money Talks
I bet if Rare see's the numbers and realizes how many PvE players out there enjoy collecting chickens, solving riddles and sailing but hates the PvP AND then also finds out most of the PvP crowd has moved on to Fortnite, COD 8, the Full release PUBG they might change their mind about the whole "Never" thing.
Lots of Companies said they won't have micro transactions.... then they saw how much players spent..... and they went full EA
@echodoctrine especially when we know MT's are coming into the game in the next 2-3 months, do you let numbers dip to the 100-200k mark and have maybe 20% of them getting them or do you change and keep playerbase at the 400-500k players with 30% buying them.
simple numbers, people who enjoy the game more buy them
never say never in this industry now, we have to remember RARE made the game but MS is funding it and own it as they own RARE, if MS say jump rare will say how high
The issue runs a lot deeper. No developer has been able to solve it because it is a social science issue, not a game developer issue. Just like the virus vs. anti-virus dance, any brig, voting system, or censorship system will be abused by the trolls.
To take a quote from King Edward Longshanks in Braveheart:
-"The trouble with Scotland... is that it's full of Scots."To which I say:
The trouble with videogames... is that it's full of videogamers. It's why I rarely play video games any more. I've had some good fun with SoT game while I use up my Gamepass Trail but I don't have my hopes up because an online game is an online game is an online game. All are full of sociopaths who don't function well in the real world. The hobby of video games selects outcasts with no social life. And they form a "community" of outcasts that reinforce their toxic behaviors. I won't let my kids near an online video game.
I'd happily pay for a higher tier xbox live subscription were the population are nice people. But that can't exist by definition because the sociopaths would invade it too. Since they get more pleasure from ruining the fun of regular people than messing with other sociopaths.
And I can't do friends either because I can't plan or schedule my gaming sessions. But I will say this has been one beautiful-looking and fun game to play so far. I just hope my PvP encounters continue to be as sparse as they have been so far. Not too little not too much.
@dahkohtlewin if i got a pound for evertyime MS said never not us we wouldnt do that and 6 months later they do it i would be rich lol
good example is when they said we will never have our studios include anything like a loot box system then tells its studio turn 10 to put one in forza 7 lol. and MS isnt a publisher for RARE they OWN them,
i dont want a PVE server at all, safe zones meh whatever i pvp anyway and would enjoy the added chase, but dont underestimate the power of the audience who bought your game, they got the death tax scrapped (as silly as the death tax as was) and going by a tweet they are now discussing what to do about the Legendary pirate situation after alot of complaints

Show me a developer quote saying they are considering PVE.
I showed you one from a week ago saying specifically never.
Has nothing to do with someone who cheated legendary , or about a death tax that was never in beta.
Not even close to a core game mechanic that they again , basically told folks who didn't want all PVP to f**k off about.
@dahkohtlewin didnt say they were considering it but remember they created and written there vision they can also change it. we will see when microtransactions comes out and see what happens after that no matter how loyal a company is as soon as they can see ways to increase that profit they will.
never is very redundant in the games industry all studios say it none have stuck to it, this will be no different whether its now, next week next month or next year, if you got hold of the head developer at rare and got him to draw up a contract that they wouldnt change this or that from it vision they wouldnt do it even they wouldnt stake there career on that lol

Before you come to tell me to "Git Gud" understand that this is coming from a very experienced veteran player. I was defending these kids a week ago, but after the past 2 days of literally not being able to do anything but fight...well i cant ignore it anymore.
Myself and alot of friends prefer the sloop, but the past two days we have been getting rushed almost nonstop, no matter what server we are in. Its like there's been a sudden influx in aggressive players.
When i say bullies, understand that I dont mean they are sinking me or that they are good. Usually in true bully fashion they cant back up their persona.
Just yesterday I had 2 seperate instances of galleons rolling up on my sloop screaming racial slurs and swearing at me. They killed all my animals for my merchant mission and decided they needed to sink my ship. in both cases I fought off every single person that climbed aboard mine and blew several holes in there ship and boarded them before they could run away...because they always run when you put up a fight. I ended up sinking them in both occurrences by simply defending the holes i made.
I won, but they still got what they wanted, they ruined my fun, they killed the animals I had visited 4 or 5 islands for, and set me back about an hours worth of playtime. They werent there to steal, they were there to cause trouble, and scream racial slur.
I love this game but we need a way to deal with players like this or you wont find many players sticking around, its only gonna escalate. they are always in noob clothes because they arent looking for gold, they just want to sink people.
They are always too scared to go for a galleon.
Don't worry, this is the last weekend for the short-term player.

You're underestimating how much PVP players spend in such shops for cosmetics from LoL and other mobas to many other games.
I've spend thousands between WoT , WoWs , MWO etc , plenty of others have also.
If they will sell me a monkey to fling poo at other players for 100 I'll buy it day one.
They pop in PVE/safe zones and I'm out.
@dahkohtlewin and you would be within your right to, hell i love the pvp in the game when im with my friends we chase ships when solo i will fight back if i have chests, safe zones while wouldnt be game breaking (would depend on how they did it but you just know people would ask for silly safe zone sizes)i can still catch them but pve servers is a no go from me , with MT's i have no problem buying them either if i like it i get it and have bought them in WoW, Eve online, LoL, six Siege,

Not disagreeing with you either.
Just saying many overlook the large amounts of $$$ PvP folks drop on other games
(and yes I want my poo flinging monkey :P )
@dahkohtlewin if i could get a poo flinging monkey that sat on the crows nest throwing it at other ships we sailed by i would get it instantly lol.
when it comes to it i think RARE will try stick to its guns its MS im more worried about with "profits" this game is RARES beacon of light that has brought them back into the gaming fold after the kinect fiasco they will fight just how long, i hope im wrong i really do.
@gigglesnarf It is not the game, but humanity is general.
Ask yourself... why do these individuals feel the need to bully others?
Maybe it will lead you to some answers.
Happy Searching!

I know it's the people. That's why there needs to be a way to counteract this behavior. Better, more worthwhile loot that they'd be more afraid to lose. A punishment for being too toxic, maybe bad sports lobbies like gta5. An Integrated report feature that allows us to stop them.
I love the game, and I get that with pirates it is gonna be a little bit toxic. However, the level it has reached here is a major issue that could effect the longevity of this title.
Apologies in advance for the wordy post.
So I'll be honest. I haven't run into situations where voice chat reminded me of a Call of Duty match, but I have noticed a HUGE increase in aggression... and that is likely what will keep me from playing the game much longer.
As far as this argument goes, I'm kind of an in-betweener I guess. Since my friends have stopped playing, I only play solo. Joining a random crew or having randoms join me is the last thing I want. I just get too anxious at the thought. As a solo player, however, I love the solo experience. I find sailing on the sea, with no sounds but the flapping of my sails and the waves against the hull to be relaxing. Sometimes I even sing sea shanties to myself lol. The PvE content is laughable, yes - and don't get me wrong, I desperately want to see more - but actually I enjoy it as it is now. As someone with ASD, I find what others would call "monotonous repetition" to be comforting. I would absolutely be in favor of a PvE-only addition, but I'm not going to champion that cause since it's basically a non-starter.
So with that in mind, I can say I was okay with there being PvP. While I never attack the ships I see (because I'd rather avoid PvP when I can than initiate it), I will fight someone if they attack first. If I have enough treasure to warrant it, I'll run away. Point is, I don't mind the PvP aspect. It makes sense in the game. And I say all this to put my original point about the increased aggression into perspective.
The occasional PvP encounters, like it was before, I could put up with. What I can't put up with is being relentlessly accosted and it being masked as PvP. The past two days I've noticed I can barely sail to more than one island, or anchor at an island for a voyage for 5 minutes, without a ship attacking me. It feels like people are going out of their way to engage me lately. Unlike before, now a good 80-85% of the ships I spot immediately sail for me after spotting me themselves. Earlier tonight I had my sloop anchored off an island while I was killing skeletons, feeling relatively secure since I spotted no sails on the horizons when I stopped there. I'm fighting when I hear 2 cannon shots nearby, and then a loud crash. Long story short, some guy decided to ram my -empty- ship with his -empty- ship, sinking us both, for no other reason than to be obnoxious and waste my time. That's not PvP.
I think the issue is a complex one, and has no "one size fits all" answer - and if it does, I hope Rare finds it. But to me, the issue is largely due to what someone said earlier in this thread (apologies, I can't remember who) - the PvPvE is imbalanced. I can spend 30-45 minutes hitting up a few islands, maybe a wreck or two, explore caves, look for washed-ashore treasures, etc., and then have the risk of sailing it back to an outpost - all the while the PvPers, with usually nothing to lose and no consequences to fear beyond waiting on the Ferry of the Damned and respawning if they get killed, close like a heat-seeking missile. At that point, they either kill me and get my loot, kill me and leave the loot (which I don't understand), or I kill them. Only maybe 5 minutes of their time either way. If someone can point out where there's balance in that, and I'm just missing it, please tell me. I'm not too proud to admit when I'm wrong.
It's disappointing because I had a really good experience last week that gave me hope for - if nothing else - a competitive but non-toxic PvPvE community. Me and a friend were running a sloop, and after leaving an outpost I randomly hear music from one of the in-game instruments. It legit startles me because my friend was AFK at the time while we were sailing to an island. I look up and a random solo player is in our crows nest playing music. He hops down and keep playing, so I pull out my accordion and join in. Eventually he jumps ship and I get a chuckle out of it, and we go our separate ways. Fast forward an hour or so. Me and my friend go to a Skull Fort event and, when we get there, spot a sloop anchored. Being non-aggressive players, we decided to anchor and go to the ship to see if anyone was onboard and wanted to team up for the event. Turns out it was the music-playing solo guy! We laughed and said hi and asked if he wanted to team up with us. He did, we conquered the fort - at one point the solo guy single-handedly saved our ship from sinking by repairing and dumping water while we were dead - and wound up splitting the loot nearly even. We then sailed to the nearby outpost together, sold our stuff, played some music, and drank some grog. It was GREAT.
I understand those instances will always be more of an exception than a rule, but I feel as though - with the way things are now/going - the chances of something like that happening again are slim-to-none. Which is really unfortunate.
@x1-two I'm sorry but content won't fix prepubescent hood rats from calling you the n-word every time they speak or insulting you for how you speak. If people come into this game with the idea of just playing the way they play most other games, which is without a single ounce of civility, then this problem won't go away. Toxicity isn't spawned from the way this game has been made, it has been brought in by others.
Joined a galleon crew earlier with randoms.. Had one guy calling everyone all sorts of racial slurs..
Saying "wake me up when you've got the treasure" on voyages.. refusing to help with anything.. instigating battles with friendly ships and threatening to throw our treasure in the sea if we try and brig him..He then wen't on to say, "well i don't care if i'm in the brig because i still get the gold and xp reward from you idiots" etc.. Not in such pleasant words..
@lngk I appreciate the moments when meeting a friendly player. I honestly think that adding the further respawn mechanic they talked about will fix a lot of it. At the moment PvP players have nothing to lose, but if they fail they can lose huge chunks of time and I feel like a lot of them will give up out of boredom. The other issue is that now we know there's nothing special in the endgame. So players just don't care about questing.
@hipporandom Exactly. People are just being pieces of human excrement and Rare isn't doing anything about it because this is their vision. It's the most obnoxious, toxic game I've ever played. Far worse than Ultima Online, ARK, Conan Exiles, Overwatch, LoL and anything else. The game could be worth playing but having to put up with this c**p isn't worth it. I play games to relax, not be stalked and verbally assaulted online. What an epic failure of a game this has been.
@gigglesnarf Exactly. Couldn’t agree more.
As far as the increased spawn distance goes, I personally feel like it’ll function as more of a stopgap to slow some of the “bleeding” caused by the uptick in toxicity, aggression, irritation in solo vs crew play, etc. (take your pick) than it will as a potential solution to some or all of it. But I hope I’m wrong :)
2 million + players now have the game, profit is now assured, a few hundred on the forum want teddy bear servers. The silent majority never bother with forums let alone posting. The loadest minority that want changes are in here bullying all the rest of us for changes in the game purely becouse they cannot adapt and overcome.
Abusive communication is just wrong... but buying an FPS to play and then expect other players not to attack you? Well honestly i'm speechless! Learn from pvp encounters, try your hardest in battle, communicate well, get with an organised crew... that's an answer! But screaming for PvE only servers? Might as well just play a single player game with close friends in the same room as you!
Honestly, I can see it, from both a 4 man and a solo crew. This game can have its bullies. Abusive talk/ Racial slurs is wrong and it shouldn't be used no matter how hard you are (roleplaying) a pirate. I just got out of a session where we were in a 4 man crew and we sent an "emissary" to other ships to requisition loot. And by emissary I mean super friendly guy would just come up to your boat and ask if you had any loot to spare. If you politely said no thanks, he would just mermaid back to our boat and we would be on our way. If yes, we would thank you profusely and reward you with our standard good luck golden chicken to keep watch in your crow's nest and bawk at any incoming danger. However, you blow the man outta the water or say anything mean to him, you best believe you are going to be re spawning on a new ship after we sink you and take your loot by force for being trigger happy. Heck, we were driving by an outpost and requisitioned a sloop to get the race achievement and the hold my grog achievement and the pirate who owned the sloop used the mermaid to get back to his ship after he realized what we did and instead of shooting us he asked why we stole the ship and we shared our loot and achievements with him and taught him a few tricks to help him on his voyages as a sloop in case another not so friendly galleon came along. If someone is harassing you, absolutely report them and send them to Davey jones' locker to rot for eternity. As someone who truly appreciates what this game set out to do and like minded friends who's sole purpose when logging in is to just make a narrative for the day and role with it, I really hope PvE servers never happen. (taking my ability to sink 8 ships a day and sneak skull forts when ships aren't paying attention would just make me sad) This game so far has been great for me and I can only see it getting better. See a troll? Murder them indiscriminately. See a friend? Set sail and have a world of adventures.

When enough people do that it ruins his rep and shows he is a jerk on his profile.
As much as I like the game I have stopped playing it. For now. I don't like PvP, but I don't agree with PvE servers. For one thing; there's simply not enough to do and not enough variety of PvE missions to keep me interested. "Bullying" is not something I have experienced for myself in this game. Yes, I have been attacked, but not yet sunk. Not because I am good but because I run away like a kicked dog as soon as I see a sail. Neither do I agree with Safe Zones. What I would like to see is a greatly increased map size with more outposts, but keeping the same number of ships per server. Perhaps have more lucrative missions toward the centre of the map, so that those wishing to take the risk of more gold and rep per missions, can go where there is more gold, but that brings more risk of PvP. Then have low gold/rep missions towards the extremities of the map. In that way everybody is happy, the PvPers, and the PvErs.
Anyway, I am going to stop playing for a few months, to see what the devs bring to the game content wise.
For now, Far Cry 5 is hogging my attention.
