Looking Glass/Sniper Rifle Glare at Night

  • Can we have glare on the looking glass and sniper rifle removed at night, when in dark areas or when the sun is behind you?

I think it is a really cool touch during the day but honestly should only show up if looking generally towards the sun. If the sun was at your back there wouldn’t be any glare.

Are we expected to believe there is glare at night from the moon? 😕 Maybe if it was a full moon, but even then that’s a big stretch.

I’d be cool with there being glare at night if you were standing with torches/lanterns in front of you I guess.

  • I would be satisfied even with a really faint glare, if possible. If they could do your suggestion, I'd be really happy. ^^

  • never thought to post this even though I specifically thought this was bogus the first time I saw the glare at night. Definitely should be muted during the night.

  • I saw a HUGE glare from a crewmates spyglass at night yesterday when he had his side to me....

  • I'm not sure. The glare is very much a gameplay mechanic, not just some visual flair. And I'm very wary about changing game mechanics.

Also, reality and Sea of Thieves are passing acquaintances AT BEST, so it never really bothered me.

True; we can sail directly upwind without tacking, use instantaneous teleportation, prevent drowning with bananas, fire flintlock gunpowder weapons underwater, and countless other absurd things that IMO shouldn’t be in game either.

We can have fantastical things like Kraken and skeletons because they fit into pirate lore, but somethings in this game just require too much suspension of disbelief.

    I know.

    Pretty awesome, right?

  • I think upgraded scoped weapons and the spyglass should lose the glint. That would be "progression".

True; we can sail directly upwind without tacking,

Could be corrected to just allow wind to always blow from behind us slightly tilting every now and then to make adjustments necessary.

    use instantaneous teleportation,

The siren? Would be better to actually hichhike a ride on their back to the ship.

    prevent drowning with bananas,

I'd use some kind of an oxygen container made from a coconut or something or simply some way big air bubbles. Ideas?

    fire flintlock gunpowder weapons underwater,

This actually amazes me most. Not necessary at all. After getting to the shore with wet guns, proper maintenance could do the trick.

and countless other absurd things that IMO shouldn’t be in game either.

Maybe some of them just await for a more believable feature to be relocated as a part to. I'd be more okay with a harpoon gun that does the lunge attack bug (reeling us to the ship) when it comes to crossing water to your ship. Just an example.

Some hint of magic is always welcome. As long as it is believable. True.
