Controlling the ship alone is reallly bad

  • Controlling the ship is 100% designed with multiplayer in mind when u play alone controlling the ship is next to impossible after 5 hrs of trying to play i gave up the game is just not good as a single player experience and its mostly due how to sail as a single player why not add the map on main sail or the fore sail since that what ur looking 90% of the time while sailing that would improve this game by a million times!! Single player flaw designs!! Have the map so far away below deck in single player is a design flaw in every way!! 90% of time i cant tell where to go or where was i the single player experience is just very poorly designed plz fix it n n il will start playing again until then i wont play n if not fixed i will just sell the game.

  • You can look over the railing behind the wheel and see the map.

I usually have my scope out to watch for ships and I look over the railing and zoom with it for close detail.

Literally from wheel to seeing map is one full second at most

  • @gabrielpina4 I agree, it is designed for multiplayer. I reckon it's the whole idea of Sea of Thieves to begin with. Solo is possible, but most fun is when you're with your crew.
For true singleplayer vessel, they could add a rowboat?

  • What? Single player is supposed to be hard mode. The sloop is EASY to sail single handed. If you're spending the entire time on the wheel you're doing it wrong.
Put the map on the sail w*f?

  • @gabrielpina4 i see no issue while on sloop.
next thing would be to add huge waypoint markers on the map.

  • I usually set my chart by 1) putting circles on key islands, 2) zooming out to make sure ship and circles are visible, and 3) look at the chart by going to the back of the quarterdeck and looking down into the chart house.
Even when I play two-man, that is the way we do it. One of us stays in crow's nest most of the time and the other sails from the quaterdeck looking down into the chart house. I happen to know the layout of the map better than my friend and I will come down from the crow's nest to reset the chart while he continues controlling wheel and sails.
But even solo - I have zero problem sailing. My problem is no one has a horizon lookout when I go ashore to catch chickens.

  • @clarionz as i played my biggest issue was basically wondering where was i while sailing.. in multiplayer you can just ask over chat easily n just stay in that course but in single player you cant ask because ur alone so having the map on the main sail would improve this n you would know where you are where you going n sailing will improve alot!! Having to constantly let go of the wheel n go downstairs n look at the map several time got super annoying!!

  • @gabrielpina4 You don't have to go downstairs. There is an opening to the map behind the wheel. All you have to do is turn around take a couple steps forward and look down. The map is even oriented so it's right side up.

The Sloop is purposely designed this way to accommodate single player and small crews.

  • @gabrielpina4 You are talking about sailing a sloop right? because you shouldn't be sailing a galleon solo..

Sloops are easy to sail solo, you can see the map almost instantly after letting go of the wheel.. the anchor is super quick, the sails are super quick.. I can outmanouver any galleon in a sloop.

  • @furiousfuzz didnt know u could this but even so thats way to many steps just to look a map for having it on the main sail where u can just look up while sailing WOULD fix this issue fast and maybe having full control of the cannons while sailing on the wheel would make it even better or automatic cannon firing since ur completely alone.

  • @isukun thats to many steps thou i rather only look at the map while sailing why not have the map by wheel??? Or a mini map by the wheel or have the cloud shape as an arrow to know if your headed the correct way

  • @gabrielpina4 I'm really surprised you are having this hard a time with a little ship like the sloop. I think you are giving up too quickly. It's not that complicated.

  • Solo sloop is the most fun way to play. There's too much idle time when you're multiplayer on a ship that isn't in combat. People mostly just run around aimlessly or play instruments.

  • @gabrielpina4 Because it's not gta and people didn't have GPSs on their ships back then. They've already taken liberties with the ship design already moving the ropes, anchor, and map within range to accommodate single player crews. Your suggestions don't work with the game's design philosophy. There aren't any guides or indicators in the game. No mini maps or pointers. Besides, having the map on the sail doesn't make any sense, anyway. You turn the sails to catch the wind and lower and raise them to control your speed. They aren't a flat projection screen, it would be a pain to even read them. Taking two seconds to look over the bar works better, and it's not like there's much to worry about as long you aren't about to crash into something and the wheel is straight.

  • While I had my most memorable experience playing on a Galleon, I enjoy my alone time on a Sloop. Like what the other posters said, you can look at the map over the rail. You just need to set / mark your destination so you can track it easier. :) Cheers!

  • Solo-slooping isn't that hard once you're used to it. Sure in battles and when getting to your location there is a flurry of activity but once you know what to do, it's not too hard and enjoyable. Battles are a bit manic but that's a risk you take soloing.

  • i'm not ok, i love to solo with my sloop, u can look at ur map just watching down behind u..

Why are people never happy ?

  • @gabrielpina4 You must be really bad then, I've had no problems.

  • @gabrielpina4 said in Controlling the ship alone is reallly bad:

@furiousfuzz having [the map] on the mainsail where u can just look up while sailing WOULD fix this issue fast and maybe having full control of the cannons while sailing on the wheel would make it even better or automatic cannon firing since ur completely alone.

Your suggestions would make it easier for the solo player. But I feel it would ruin the game in some way. Control of cannons should only be done by interaction with the cannon. Otherwise, the game becomes more arcadey in nature. Same with automatic cannon fire.

I have not tried reading the map from the top deck area, but as people have suggested it is easy to do. I will try it out tonight.

  • @gabrielpina4

It's not really an issue that needs fixing. It's a sloop not a car or a tank. It's supposed to take some effort to get everything working right and be constantly adjusting as you go. They've streamlined it so you can be far more efficient than one would expect.

You're not supposed to be able to constantly be looking at a map while you steer. Part of the joy is to plot your course and bearing and sail the ocean. Eventually you won't even need to glance at the map more than once during a voyage, but they've made it so you can see it within a second.

I'm all for trying to improve the experience where we can, but you're asking for the ships to be made like automobiles.

  • I love sailing alone.

You see everything as bad design or 'bad.
I see everything as a challenge. Dont just look at the problem, look at the solution.
I have no problem navigating, you have a map in the boat with a GPS system! I cant imagine how you struggle!? I have no problem seeing where i am sailing because i happen to have eyes and good vision, like most people. Let go of the rudder!?
But its all about psyche anyways, you want a complete different experience then what you got and thats ok. You want the map infront of you, the sail gone or higher so you can see and call them design flaws? Maybe the flaw is with your perception? GPS and Direct Vision Control wasnt enough for you?

    smh

  • @gabrielpina4 said in Controlling the ship alone is reallly bad:

@furiousfuzz...and maybe having full control of the cannons while sailing on the wheel would make it even better or automatic cannon firing since ur completely alone.

    you are trolling right?

I have my sarcasm meter turned off turing the mornings

  • I really enjoy sailing my sloop solo, I really feel like I have many things to occupy my mind, and I find that both calming and really immersive.

I like sailing with my buddy too, but it is a different experience more silly, I do not find it easier, but it is good to have someone watch for ships the whole time.

The real problem in this game when it comes to ships and numbers is when you play in 3. The game doesn't allow you to use the sloop, and the Galleon is very stressful to control with 1 less crew member.

Hopefully in the future we'll get a Frigate or something that has 2 sails and is made for 3 players.

  • @gabrielpina4 Wait.... main sail and fore sail? Are you trying to solo a galleon?

The galleon certainly is designed for multiple players to man - it's designed in such a manner that other players will need to join in and communicate to get her going straight and true!

Try the sloop, it can be awkward, but after a little practice she's perfectly manageable solo (I've solo slooped quite a lot, it's really quite rewarding in itself).

  • @gabrielpina4 1)make sure where u want to go is circled
2)make sure the ship and circle are in view at the same time
3)figure out the general direction you need to go
4)turn to that direction and make the wheel go straight
    5) constantly check the map with your spyglass behind the wheel to see if you need to adjust

Even if u dont read this hopefully this will help someone👍

  • I started assuming he was trolling at the automatic cannon firing and arrow shaped cloud to show you the way. I don't want him to be trolling, I NEED him to. For the sake of my faith in today's gaming.

  • @gabrielpina4 Learn the map. Problem solved.

  • @gabrielpina4 too many steps? You mark where you are going and look over the rail to make sure you are on track to your destination. That is only two steps, how many would you like?

  • @gabrielpina4 you can’t sail the sloop from a to b and saying it’s impossible? Wow

  • @gabrielpina4 the sloop is incredibly easy to sail solo.

The map is perfectly visible from the top deck. Just look under the tarp over your cabin. Once my headings been set the only reason I go below decks is to repair damage or load up on nans and cannon balls.

Not to mention I've been able to solo sail the Galleon while my crew fights at a fort. That's a chore and a half, but still doable.

  • Funny, a founder that can sail a sloop.
    Lol

  • @gabrielpina4 all due respect matey I've been piloting the sloop on my own since the alphas. You just need to get better, and I realise how unhelpful that is, but it's the truth.

  • @luciansanchez82

I didn't notice his mention of main and fore sail at first, but if he's playing alone he can't possibly be on a galleon since you have to have 3 or 4 players to even spawn one. I think he's gotta be some kid who just can't multitask very well. Given that he's asking for the cannons to fire automatically and to have a minimap beside his steering wheel.

That said, I've solo sailed a galleon to great effect while my crew fought at a fort. It's tricky, but doable.

  • @subaqueousreach I wondered if perhaps matchmaking had somehow timed out and dropped them in alone, or the rest of the crew left leaving them alone for a while? Unlikely, but who knows.

There is a bit of a learning curve on both ships, but entirely doable with a little patience.

  • @luciansanchez82 with how the servers are right now I honestly wouldnt be that surprised.
