Benefits to items?

  • Has there been any thoughts on adding some edges to the items you buy? I'm not talkig about stats or anything, but rather make guns and clothes different from starting items in more ways than just display. At this point you can't even see how your character look anyway (unless you use some emote).

Edges could even be increased slightly depending on quality (price) of items.

    For example:

A certain gun you buy can load quicker than the regular one.
A sniper could have further bullet drops.
A chest piece or trousers could carry 1-3 more bananas or planks or whatever.
A spyglass could have quicker scoped movement.
    Gloves could increase digging time.

Could set bonuses be a thing?

Idk, just some minor edge to items could make them more useful and attractive to buy.

    Thoughts?

  • @trickynickmlg I love the increase digging speed thing, but I think it would be a shovel, not gloves.

  • @jedi-firefly Yes, of course. I'm just throwing out examples out of my head. Ideas are welcome.
On a side note, I was under the impression of that the shovel you buy from the Gold Hoarder guy increased your digging speed or digging area, but I could not make out any difference.

  • General idea by rare was that nothing would give bonuses and that everyone has exactly the same balanced gameplay.
    All items are cosmetic only

  • @majorwhiplash Exactly. Having cosmetic only balances the PVP and progression. If this was implemented the solo players and new players would lose their mind when someone with a quicker loading gun killed them.

  • If they ever did go down that route (albeit it highly unlikely as it stands) they would have to do more than just one item with one benefit e.g blue shovel digs faster. I may want the trait but I dont want to be forced into having that colour shovel for it so there would need to be some transmog type system.

On top of that alot would be hidden behind gold initially meaning, a new player isnt on an even playing field against someone with a faster loading gun/less damage. Thus misses the mark on what rare want to achieve.

  • @thinkmcfly88 Advantages like this already exist in the game. That's no different than a XBox player getting shot by a PC player. I agree with the original poster that should be able to upgrade my items, but only by doing quests.

  • Noooooo.

  • I'm really trying not to be rude here, but, what the heck don't people understand about horizontal progression? Is it that difficult to comprehend? It's kind of a shame that Rare made this game in the era of participation trophies and special snowflakes, because it's a great game (not saying you in particular are necessarily one of those things). When it comes to this game, the gear you have doesn't matter when fighting another crew, the only real thing that matters is to git gud, something that so many gamers now-a-days don't care to do.

  • @moogle-mogg With "stats" i refer to stamina, strenght, agility, attack power etc, obviously.

  • Although I was a little disappointed to discover the cosmetic only approach to items and "upgrades", I do admire the fact that you must improve your skill to beat fellow pirates. No advantage is given based on your inventory. It does allow for a easier adoption for new-comers and does ultimately prevent master griefers from ruling the seas.

  • @trickynickmlg The thing is, you don't need stats to completely destroy the game with stuff like that. If they added actual mechanical progression besides, say, a better carry load, in this style of game, there would basically be no reason for newbies to join. I mean, you already have people who do nothing but hunt people for loot. Having stuff like a better reloading gun would just enhance that problem massively.

o but please, go on to say that

I'm not talkig about stats or anything

  • NO! Everyone has the same capability for items. No one has an edge, ever.

  • @trickynickmlg OMG great idea!
