Concerning the items bought at the trading companies...

  • We all know that each trading company has their own set of tools available for purchase, for instance...

    Gold Hoarders - Shovel, Compass

Order of Souls - Lantern, Tankard

    Merchant Alliance - Watch, Spyglass

As of right now these are just cosmetic pieces and don't really give any benefit, and most items in the shop are better cosmetically. What if these items from the trading companies weren't cosmetic? I had thought maybe...

Gold Hoarder Shovel - Digs faster

Gold Hoarder Compass - Doesn't go as crazy during a storm? (What do you think?)

Order of Souls Lantern - Lights up a greater area than a regular lantern

Order of Souls Tankard - Gets you drunk twice as fast? Or maybe gives you the appearance of a skeleton when you're drunk? (Again, what do you think?)

Merchant Alliance Watch - Has a second slot, telling you what date you have to have your voyage delivered? (Yet again, what do you think?)

Merchant Alliance Spyglass - Increases the range of spotting the glint of messages in bottles, chests, etc. And reduces the glint other pirates see from using the spy glass.

Id like this idea implemented, but I'm not as smart as some minds in this community, surely with all you clever pirates out there, we could think of some ideas for those I'm not sure about or even improve what I have said already?

EDIT - All these features would be only available at the final tool reachable. And thanks for all those who have given their thoughts so far.

  • While I want the game to stay as balanced as possible from a pvp/new player perspective. I do think some of the ideas you proposed are pretty nice. The only one I find somewhat questionable is the compass helping locate loot and the spy glass telling of your treasure. lol almost missed that one, but again nice ideas

Overall I would not be opposed to this as long as Rare didn't take it too far.

  • @lord-boblet I love all these ideas, with the exception of the eyeglass. The reason is that the rest don't give an advantage in anything combat related.

  • @zep-darkwater @floppy-peener Thanks for the feedback, any idea how to improve these things?

  • @lord-boblet Neat ideas. My kids were bouncing around ideas like this. Gloves that allow you to manipulate the sails faster, or boots that allow you to run a bit faster. That sort of thing. Cool ideas! On the compass, how about instead of pointing to something valuable it simply stays good during a storm as opposed to spinning all crazy like!

  • @lord-boblet on the eyeglass, maybe instead it increases the chance of getting the glint from message in bottle/chest/whatever on the beaches?

  • @lord-boblet To be 100% honest with you I've been racking my brain over on the pvp is toxic type threads as to a way to incorporate mechanics that are fair for both, but given the ideas you had on all the other items, I'm sure you can find a way to make them balanced.

  • @touchdown1504 that's awesome, and that's a great idea! I'll edit my post

  • @floppy-peener Oh my, here is the answer from the spy glass. Instead of increasing the glint for message in a bottles, make is so while looking through the faction spy glass there is less glint visible by the player you are looking at. As to not be noticed so easily.

  • @zep-darkwater interesting, but is that really worth it? I've personally never had a situation where that would have helped.

  • @floppy-peener @Zep-Darkwater how about both?

  • @floppy-peener Hmm I guess the usefulness would be subjective depending on how you play. As a pvp player I do notice the glint, but this doesn't have to be the end result. I think there are a lot of great ideas in this thread.

Keep it balanced and keep it up :).

  • @lord-boblet Idk as long as its not op I wouldn't have a problem with it, you guys think it would be fairly balanced?

  • While I like the concept, the problem with gear from the Trading Companies offering any of those benefits is that then players would ONLY use those items. Why use the regular cosmetics that don't give a benefit? While a small buff might seem nice, the end effect would be everyone equipping the same gear.

  • @zep-darkwater this kind of gives a small PvP and PvE advantage, it's not game changing or anything I feel it wouldn't be the slightest bit op

  • Just so you all know, the glint is from the rifle scope. The spyglass does not show glint regardless of distance.

  • @lord-boblet I apologize i was looking over my post and somehow got confused and apparently my reading skills failed me you said the compass would be normal in a storm. I don't think it should be completely normal but it would be awesome for it to go less crazy during the storm. Again I apologize I don't know where I got the notion it would locate loot easier lol. Maybe a diff post lol.

  • @dreamdarwin while I think this I partially true I think a lot of players would still prefer cosmetic over useful and being these aren't too game changing the trading companies tools right now aren't really being used either.

  • @sunk-your-ship I always assumed it was both, thanks for clearing that up though. Pro tip :)

  • @sunk-your-ship I've seen glint from spyglasses.

  • @lord-boblet You're seeing things :) Test it yourself,

  • @lord-boblet I thought it did give off a glint too, but I can't be 100% sure so I'll let you guys call this one. Need to check it in game if for nothing other than I should know this.

  • Great ideas.

  • @zep-darkwater if never really tested it before but I'm 99.99999% sure it does.

  • @zep-darkwater I spent about 30 minutes testing with a random guy I found on an island from another crew, Every time without fail the rifle glinted, every time without fail the spyglass would not; Regardless of direction/distance from each-other.

  • @sunk-your-ship ah ok good to know. Like i said I'm not 100% sure, but given the fact you have taken the time to test it and I have not. I will go with your info.

  • it's not a terrible idea. I'd prefer if players could demote their voyage levels with each faction, so if you upgrade your voyages to a level you can't handle, you can go back down to the last level. That way you can profit based on your skill, and not on grinding.

Grinding to become more effecient isn't a terrible concept, but i'd like the game to be as skill based as possible, and grinding involves very little skill.

Higher reward voyages should be harder all round in my opinion. You shouldn't be able to upgrade to make them easier. It's not an issue of balance or fairness, I just feel it would discredit the legendary status somewhat. And that's the only progression we really have at the moment. Cosmetic progression in a game with very few cosmetic items and no freedom of design is not worth much if you ask me.

  • if gold horders compass at max rank points to buried and randomly spawned treasure when on islands

  • Yeah I think this is one of the more beneficial threads on the forum, really great ideas. Gonna send all the peeps I know this way to view :).

I'm slightly disappointed that there is not a full set available from each merchant, I don't really see the point in just having 2 pieces, I want a full matching set.

  • @sunk-your-ship alright ill go with your info, I'll update the post

  • @zep-darkwater thanks, we could use all the opinions we can!

  • @lord-boblet They must've fixed it last patch, Just tested and now the Spyglass is Identical to rifle scope.

  • @sunk-your-ship lol I'll update it again RODL "Rolls on Deck Laughing"

I was just thinking... What if the spy glass when you looked at an island through it, above the island would be icons representing the different animals found there? Any thoughts?

  • @inbred-chimera Yes I do hope they add different types of weapons just some gear that has different abilities, because I fear the game will get boring if there is just cosmetic, while it's still fun, there's hardly any progression besides pirate legend (as you said).
