Currently I'm level 25-30. My voyages aren't getting any different, they're just like level 1 but longer, and give the same loot. Will they ever get more varied at the higher levels?

  • Yes they change. Im level 31 gold hoarders and i get voyages sometimes that produce 5+ maps with each map having multiple chests. Plus, you have a greater chance at getting higher level chests (Mauraders, Captain, Sorrow, Grog). I'm sure theres still an element of RNG to it but its obvious I'm getting better loot and more of it as I progress.

  • @gulpee-rex I bet $10 that they will nerf the rewards at Skeleton forts if this is where most people are going to earn their gold.

  • The gameplay wont change, just longer missions with more RNG.

Should getting to level 50 be easy or take only a couple weeks?
The game is what it is now, and they will add a few seasonal things here and there.

Becoming a legend takes time. Unfortunately you have about 6 paths of doing that, the 3 faction missions, sunken ship hunting, skeleton forts, or pvp. And the game is heavily revolving around the later 2. This IS the game right now.

  • @boost-king I think it's good now. Almost everyone is able to spot the giant skull in the sky so it's a risk for being there.

@Philpsey Pvp isn't an option for me because most of the other crews don't have a lot of loot, maybe 1-2 chests but that's all. For us it's doing voyages and skeleton forts, sometimes sunken ships.

  • @ersatz-nihilist i have said this in so many threads.

  • @nemesis464
I'm loving the game but already starting to feel bored of it :(
Personally I'm just over level 20 and I was expecting the rewards to be better and they aren't. It's SO disappointing! I got BETTER rewards from a level 1-5 mission and it was FREE! I think I'm going to put the game down for a bit and come back later if there's more to it. Right now, I'm painfully grinding for weak loot, doing the same old thing. Like I said, I love the concept, and the game looks amazing, but man is it lean.

If you ever hit a point where the quests give better rewards, let us know. At this point I'd say stay with the level 1-5 quests and save the gold!

  • @chronicotto
This was my experience at level 20 and why I came here to see if I was the only one thinking this. Sadly I'm not alone :(

  • Just to be clear, if you are level 20, you should have bought promotions to get better voyages.

I think the game is still "under development" and pushed out of the door too soon. Why there are 3 voyages to buy at vendors and their description tells nothing? Every time I vote on a voyage, I feel it's just RNG.

Maybe the original design is 3 voyages: easier, normal, harder. But it just get rushed out of the door so they are now the same with dummy text. I guess in a few months, things will get improve because Rare is actively developing on it now.

  • My son and I absolutely love the game, but this is definitely one of my more frustrating experiences with SoT. As a level 22, I'm not expecting to get a Captain's Chest or better each time, but when I do 6+ voyages with the majority of the chests still being castaway, then that's frustrating! I sincerely hope that Rare continues to improve the rewards as you progress.... had a group of buddies last night on a Galleon... we went through at least 7 hours of gameplay on nothing but Gold Hoarder voyages... I think in total we returned with 7k worth of gold. For 7 hours of gameplay, I would expect a higher yield of gold. I'm not sure what the solution is, but they've got to change this or otherwise I'm going to get burnt out quick.

  • lvl 25 voyage 7-8 chests and 6 of them throwaway chests, rest were seafarer. ill just stick with doing forts all day.

  • i havn't done a single gold hoarders quest since the game official release cos i did so many during beta, i am currently 27/31/28 ish despite this because of all the random finds, ship wrecks and pirate forts, although i agree rank progression should mean better loot more often in all factions, to me the order of souls does have this progression, but like i said i have done 0 gold hoarder missions and got lvl 27 which is v close to my other ranks.

  • @scurvyrod hmm 70000k isn’t to bad . We have the full ship set and I also have the full admiral set and sitting at 50k. I only played for 4 days. You have to think a bit about a smart way to use the games mechanics. Just accept merchant missions if you don’t get to deliver a gold animal just cancel the voyage and use a new one. Same can be done with order of souls and gold border. Re roll until you get good maps. Faster way seems to sell gold snakes etc. They go around 1500-2000 gold along with other animals a normal haul gives 2000-3000 gold and takes 15-20 mins if you sail snart and know the maps. Just always find new ways to get money :) some also use unoccupied Forts and sell the gunpowder but that’s boring as hell

  • While my crew and I are mainly farming forts, I'm doing 35+ gold hoarders and 30+ skulls atm. Nothing ever changes, always the same quests. I usually get most of my gold from the wrecks I visit on the way to the islands rather than the voyage itself. Yesterday I even had a 35 gold hoarders give me a SINGLE riddle in a one step voyage, that yielded a castaway chest. I bought the voyage for 140gold and got around 80 in return. As for the Souls, you get bigger waves of skellies for the same cheap skulls.
I love the game, don't get tired of sailing and PvP, and it's a great opportunity to just talk and fool around with my friends, so I'm not near quitting. But I feel like Rare wants to slow the progress to Legend to a crawl in order keep people from seeing that there is not much additionnal content once you make it to 50/50/50

41 souls here. rewards and quests arent getting better. it gets worse skelletons are much harder to kill and rewards are still bad fouls skulls all over...

so you could say it is "wrong" to upgrade souls to a higher level and just grind the low-level voyages?

  • I like gold.

    Voyages do not scale properly.
Forts and wrecks combined with the low-profitable voyages inbetween is the way to go. Or just no-life the forts, really...
Messages in a bottle can be by far one of the best sources of income, but sometimes also one of the worst, if you're unlucky with them.

We had a small island a few days ago with 9 chests on it, because we had two Messages in a bottle on the same island. We could almost literally dig anywhere and we would hit a chest, without looking at the maps.

  • I came on the forum to complain about this and I'm glad to see I'm not the one. I read of people telling that they were finding better loot after lvl 25, but at lvl 33 I'm just finding longer missions that take me around the 3 Seas for half an hour and reward me with a castaway and 3 seafarers. The good loot is what we fish out of wrecks we stumble upon in our journeys.
Reading the feedback and raiding other ships I'm beginning to suspect that there are a couple bugs that clogged the intended mechanics for loot drops: yesterday we sunk a guy who was teaching his girlfriend how to play on a sloop, and they had a captain's chest and 2 marauders. We added those to our 8 seafarers, 3 castaway and 1 marauder.
Also since the game launched I've found exactly 0 chests of a Thousand Grogs and 2 Sorrow ones. Please, tweak the numbers with the loot chance, because it feels like a bet with bad odds.

  • I am level 35 with gold hoarders and I can say that the cheats have significantly improved from level 30, the worst chest you can get is marauders with the majority being captains and sometimes sorrow and grog

  • Im level 31, castaway chests seem as rare as captains chest with pretty much all the chests being either seafarers or marauders. Perhaps at 40+ it changes to marauders and captains are most likely chests? but im speculating

edit: and yeah like others Ive had a voyage that was only a riddle with a couple of steps

  • @viralwhite I think you do something wrong. After 15lvl I see improvement in rewards as we never return without at least 2 marauders from 1 quest and something shiny found randomly on islands or ships (+ ofc tons of bad loots)

  • @scurvyrod I'm level 20, already got a new hull, now sitting at 15k gold again, I think you're doing something wrong.

  • This is going to be quite a deflating thread for anyone who reads through it.

To know that the rewards don't get reliably and significantly better as you level up and do harder, more time-consuming voyages is a huge disappointment.

For a pirate game heavily focused on looting/voyaging the rewards are overwhelmingly meagre, to the point of being broken.

I think a lot of people are going to go play other things before long at all, myself included, as this game clearly has fundamental mechanics that need significant tuning in order to make the gameplay experience acceptable nevermind great, which those who have played the game a significant amount seem to be realising.

It's just a question of how many people will come back to give the game another go after tuning patches are released. The game has a lot of potential but extended play reveals it's not entirely fit for purpose at this point unless you are satisfied with just messing about and not a whole lot more.

  • I find a bottle with a map!
They only gave me 1.9K coins

    Map

    Chests

I made one Voyage of lvl 25 and gave me 3 chests and only 954 coins :(

I think there is some little problem with the rewards of voyages.

  • @bawzartz said in Currently I'm level 25-30. My voyages aren't getting any different, they're just like level 1 but longer, and give the same loot. Will they ever get more varied at the higher levels?:

this definitely makes me think there's a bug somewhere in the system. Is there any developer we can tag to make this more visible/get some feedback from them, to know if the game's working as intended (hardly), or if there are issues they already know about?

@Musicmee can you help us with this?

  • I'm not getting much better rewards either. As you level up I expect to be getting better rewards and making a lot more gold. As it is now there is not much point to doing these at all. May as well just stick to forts. This game is getting really boring, really fast. I hope they do something about it really soon.,

  • @compulim
I DID buy the better voyages, and not I'm paying for the same loot :(
