This game is a sandbox. And it truly has loads and loads of potential.
I do, however, think there are certain things that could be added that would make the game more fun.
One of the reasons why Skyrim succeeded incredibly as a SANDBOX game was, the exploration where you could find incredibly interesting mysteries while just running around. It wasn't just cool scenery, but a more living world. Run towards a quest and then bang you see a cave by chance, so you forgo the quest for a moment to explore and find loot and creatures to fight. And so a cave was thrilling, not just an empty place that looks nice.
I think one of sea of thieves' weaknesses lay there. Yes they have a beautiful gorgeous map to explore, it is amazing to look at, but the islands and especially caves don't have anything interesting in them. There should be something that would start a journey of mystery.
Because you can have the most beautiful textures of islands and reefs and caves. But if they don't have RANDOM interesting discoveries to find while you were busy doing something else, it would stay bland.
I said random for a reason. It must be things outside the quest you are busy with and remarkable enough that you want to see where it leads. And what uncommon or unique treasures you can find.
Let there be random skeleton bosses in certain caves, let them drop skulls and missions. Because then people want to explore.
Let there be huge doors in underground ruins that warns not to be opened. Then a quest that shows the pieces of a key that could open said door. This releases a new threat to the world.
Either way it would fascinate people, pull them in, make want to know, make them want to open that door to see what hides away.
Those kind of things take a sandbox from being just a casual fun with friends to an epic journey that will be remembered.
Grinding for loot is not memorable. But while grinding for loot the crew find a crazy and mysterious secret that leads to something tangible that can be activated that actually change something. Those things are what will pull people in.
Good luck to Rare, I hope they do craft something that is memorable and mysterious.
