PVP mode is taking over SOT

  • Yesterday i was on 3 crews for 4 hours and all they wanted to do was chase down other ships and sink them, not get their treasure, just fight them and sink the ship yawn boring!

Then after doing that, i advertised on xbox app for a treasure only crew and we started off and was going to the first island and ended up having to defend ourselves from contant attacks so after 5 hours of game play no treasure attained.
While I dont mind the occasional stoush, my goal in this game has been to seek treasure and get rank in the mercantile guild etc.

But PVP morons are taking over the game and ruining it, and yes i understand that its a pirate game and this is an element of it. If it continues to become the sole purpose of the game to hunt down other ships and just sink them continuously to get the treasure, if there is any on a ship if they have time to get it and usually there isnt as they are all trying to defend themselves at the same time, then this will be a game ill just move on from.
When I was playing the closed beta, getting treasure and stuff like that was what people did and it was fun and enjoyable and i couldnt get enough of it. NOW... if all i have to do is get resources to stay alive in constant ship battles then pffffffffffffffffffffttt.
BORRRRINGGGGG.. After the first hour or two it just becomes painful and i just want to log off and play world of warships. people wont progress, quests wont be done, and all the good work of rare will be for nothing.
just rename it from Sea of Thieves to "CALL OF BOOTY",
    You decide.

I think the key word here is also.

  • PvP is taking over a PvP based game? I want a refund reee

  • @starpirat NOT wanting the treasure? after a PvP kill ? what..?
My friends and I are mainly only PvP kind of group, and it is SO refreshing that a FUN game has been released that actually gives you the chance to be rewarded for killing another player other than "hah i win" literally the only other game that comes to mind on a PvP hardcore you lose all your loot based game was like, what? runescape? lol

  • @starpirat
Ok whats ur Problem ? Its an PVP Based game with Elements for PVE.
If u want to get more gold and things, then u have to learn how to fight and turn ur ship in the right way to win the fight and sail back to outpost.

Its not always the problem from others what they do.

I would like to beg a difference of opinion with you. While I do believe PvP is a large part of the game stating that it is a "PvP based game" is wrong. If that is the case, where is the PvP reward system? Where are leaderboards? I think this is an open world PvE game with PvP elements.

Unfortunately players such as yourself are turning this into constant warfare, which I would like to think isn't what Rare intended.

No offence intended, just stating opinion.

  • @starpirat Do you know why everyone wants PvP? Because everything else is boring and everyone has already trained chests on the beta (so in the beta there was less PvP).

My point is , that if all your doing is sinking ships and killing people, where you get no bonus or reward for except of they have treasure, and if everyone is just sinking ships and defending each other then who has the time to go to an island and look for treasure from a mulitude of clues, for you to steal.
Use your head and think 10 steps ahead. If you all keep doing this to get your rocks off then people will get tired of it and just leave the game.
You want to be pvp only ? Fine, keep doing that and people will stop looking for treasure for you to steal and where then do you get your loot ???? from people that stop looking for treasure and kill the game Grow up child.
Yes its going to be CALL OF BOOTY next. if you can find it. LOL

  • @starpirat voyages is filler content.
skull forts pay WAY more then voyages ever will, and give EXP for all three merchants. no skull forts up ? steal some treasure from others. no players around? meh, do a few voyages and pray for a skull fort. or just reset and server hop. lol

  • @thefappenin
The problem with that is that everyone knows it, and consequently all go to the skull forts to sink each other to get it. This happened to me yesterday and we were constanly fighting each other and didnt have time to get to the skull fort and everyone is gravitating their to get the same thing and competing with it. attack and defend, and the skellies just look on and laff. You probably get more treasure going to individual islands than skull forts time wise.

  • @starpirat we did 6 skull forts tonight, and had no contest at any of them, but i do agree somewhat, since last night we went to one skull fort and stayed for probably 2 hours fighting another galleon crew, them and us would just respawn and come right back, over and over again. pretty sure the fort just de-spawned we fought so long.

  • @myluchs If u want to get more gold and things, then u have to learn how to fight and turn ur ship in the right way to win the fight and sail back to outpost.

I know how to fight, i just dont want to have to do it constantly for 5 hours of 5 hours of game time, do you get that ???? My game time is my time and thats precious, i want to achieve something, other than sinking ships ?

  • @starpirat ok, so do not play pvp games.

  • its like talking to a brick wall Misterhump, your not hearing or not wanting to hear what im saying, and skull forts need to be turned off,

  • @starpirat Then its ur way, then avoid others and dont fight and Hunt treasures. Whats ur Problem?
at the most of the times its such simple to avoid others.

  • @starpirat I played for 17 hours straight yesterday and only got in three battles with other ships.. if you join someone who's only hunting just leave the game and try again.. if you're getting hunted learn both ships' advantages and use them... I did another 8 hours today and only got in one battle (I just realized I played more of this in the last 48 hours than anything else).

  • literally just out run the other ship for about 5 minutes and i guarantee most of them will stop chasing. raise your sails, aim them at the wind, raise your anchor, do your voyage, and if you see a ship coming just drop your sails and fly away. its rather easy. if you play solo on a sloop get distance from a galleon and turn INTO the wind. since a sloop out runs the galleon that way, but not the other way around. there is your PvE mechanic.

  • @starpirat In this game very beautiful and dynamic sea battles! Many people were waiting for this PvP in the Sea of Thieves.

  • The pvp in this game is good, right up to the part you are getting killed over and over again and there is nothing you can do about it(we scuttled our ship multiple times and respawned on the nearest island possible) wich led to getting attacked again without decend supplies. Imo this needs to be fixed of a lot of people will walk away from this game.

  • OP. Pvp does reward treasure from the sunken ships most of the time. Its is also very fun. Sorry that the other players wanted to have fun in a different way than you, but even in PVP crews i have been in they eventually do quests as well.

Also this is a PVP game at its core, its not taking over it, it was designed this way on purpose.

  • @myluchs i think it's quite the opposite i mean without the pve aspects in getting loot whats the purpose of pvp if there's nothing to gain for it and wasting supplies instead of saving it when u have stuff on board to defend

  • The problem here isnt the PvP mind set but the lack of Repercussions from losing. If all that happens is you re spawn with your ship literally 100 feet away from where you died with fresh supplies then why would the bad kids wanna stop attacking others? It has no inconvenience to them and they get all the action right away. Now dont get me wrong Im just as happy to kill the next ship i see but I feel like its gonna either become nothing but combat consistently or every one will get bored and the game will die if they dont do some thing to change it.

  • and also when im on a sloop i like to load it up with supplies right away for when i get my treasure and if i see a ship trying to chase me down yeah i am going to run instead of wasting it all on a pointless battle where nothing is to be gained sure there might be the possibility the attacking ship has treasure but not likely

  • If PvP isn't for you, then you shouldn't be playing a PvP game. Not everyone wants to go around looking for treasure all day. Some players want action.

  • let´s wait until the 14 days free trial time for the game pass has passed - most people currently playing didn´t buy the game - they are following the hype with the free game pass trial ...

  • My crew and Galleon hunt and kill on sight. We don’t go after what we assume are fresh spawns however, no loot. If you come across us for the first time however, we’re most likely gonna intercept, board, drop anchor and camp you til you scuttle while we take loot and more fighting supplies ;)

  • Yes you want treasure. I guess you'll just have to fight for it. If you go to a fort and expect to just be left alone, you're a bit naive. If you go to a fort, you do so with the knowledge that other players will contest your self proclaimed treasure rights. If you go to a fort you are willingly engaging in PvP!

Fight for your right to that treasure or go do voyages, since those are quite safe and unless you play without thinking, you're not going to lose your treasure.

  • Yeah i got no sympathy for folks at skull forts. There is a giant skull cloud over it meant to bring in the chaos.

    Expect this chaos.

  • Thank goodness pvp is taking over this game. .its a pvp game. Its like saying omg the wetness of the sea is taking it over....the sea is wet.. the pvp game is pvp... stupid analogy but stupid statement so......

  • @STARPIRAT I somewhat agree with you people seem to be going into this game and treating it like COD or any other team deathmatch game.... The game is advertised as a social adventure game and all the PVE elements is what is highlighted as that is what 95% of gamers want however it briefly mentions the PVP elements which I think can mislead somepeople....

What I do agree with due to the lack of content people are getting bored doing the same old fetch quests or forts so the only thing left is to sail around killing people which will also get boring fast....

  • One part of PvP needs work though. That's the respawning and reengaging.

When your ship is blown up it should respawn will standard supplies except no Cannon balls. It should also respawn further away.

Last thing is a ship should leave behind all it's supplies in barrels for the Victor to pick up. I was with a Crew Yesterday and we won three fights, but supplies made it hard to press on. I would like to see Victors being able to get all supplies on the enemy ship.

  • @joe-gallows i agree to that, maybe implement a "Ghost ship" respawn timer for your newly ghosted ship, on top of it being moved well away from where you got sank.

I am actually torn on the spawn thing. I see both sides of it.

    1. Yeah you just killed a crew and sunk that ship and here they are again...

    2. You were just ganked and would like a chance to get your hard earned loot back before they turn it in again....

The only solution i can think of is to have the server tag the rewards with the crew that i ititially earned them, and keep the close spawns when your treasure has been taken and zoom you to the other side of the world if it was a no treasure exchange.

  • It’s all management in terms of what you’re doing for close respawns. The most annoying thing was sloops coming back over and over while we cleared a skull fort, eventually we found out when you wedge a Galleon sideways between the 2 cannon towers just right you cover both the blind spots with towers AND give your Galleon extra cannons to work with, after that the 3+ sloops left cause it was impossible to sink and had 0 weak spots
