1st SoT EXPANSION - what do you want to see?

  • I think for the 1st SoT Expansion pack (bigger than monthly updates and events) that I would like to see are some of the following:

    1. A way to transport to another map filled with ICE cold conditions and Icebergs, etc. Blizzard like conditions where in some places areas of the sea have frozen over and we can walk on it, etc. Transporting will allow players to move from map to map (each Expansion offering an entirely new map, etc)
    2. I would like to see Fishing, I know it's been said over and over again but I do believe this is a small feature that is missing, but I think making a fish actually bite bait if another pirate is watching under water may be more difficult than it seems... I believe right now they are being randomly generated when a player gets near one, not actually using AI under water the entire time. When looking at how players reacted the Kraken not having a body... what will they say when you catch fish on a rod that actually had no fish near it under water? Then again, if another player is in the water... would a fish really bite or be near bait?
    3. I want to see progression items that do not have statistical bonuses, but have benefits. There is a great post about these already on the forum (https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/40765/strictly-horizontal-cosmetic-progression).
    4. More Story surrounding large scale 'adventures', not just an island with 20 waves of skeletons, but instead like a big cavern that is easy to get lost in, and has lots of awesome rewards (not just trade in's) to obtain, and puzzles to figure out (randomly generated). Think bigger than the Goonies and if any of you ever played World of Warcraft, consider one of their raids as an example of what I am talking about.
    5. Raised achievement statuses and more costmetic items too.

    Okay, what are yours?

Just something I'd like to add to #1 - the Ice cold conditions could require heavier cosmetic items, and this could have a small 'play' on the progression items that have benefits but not stat bonuses. Also ship upgrades may be required to venture into such conditions, etc.

  • While I like your ideas, I really hope that the microtransactions will finance expansions in themselves. Or at least I hope an expansion is very far out still, because I think that Rare needs to put a lot of work into the base game first.

Especially considering how much controversy there is around the game currently, the last thing we need is an expansion splitting the player base (also excluding game pass) for now. We have seen how great it worked out for Destiny2 to come along with expansions right away.

  • Solid idea! I could immediately imagine sailing in an icy sea, fog rolling in and someone needing to sit on lookout for icebergs.
Going with everyone being on the same footing still leaves open the possibility of needing to work towards winter gear to be able to survive the frozen seas.

Ice caves can hold less common beasts that needs strategy to defeat instead of just swinging your sword X amount of times randomly.

  • Exactly 1 extra ship, 1 extra enemy, 1 extra quest, 1 new shirt and 1 new weapon. That will almost double the current content.

    1. More comestics like 1000’s
    2. Pets
    3. Row Boats
    4. 1 man boats only servers
    5. Fishing
    6. Map epanding to the north (Snow)
  • I want to see new systems that let players create stuff instead of Rare create stuff.

Why have the Art guys labour over 8 new sail designs when they could help build a Create-A-Sail system that lets players earn emblems, pictures, textures, and patterns and then make the sail designs themselves? I want a Figurehead-maker, with all the 3D objects in the game available to create my own Figurehead. Same with the Hull design.

Why have ONE COLOUR of Admiral Trousers instead of a baseline model and then colour shaders so people can custoimise it.

There are so many COMPLETELY missed opportunities for customisation and player-driven creativity that I'm not sure how it happened. They've missed 'a whole episode of a TV series.'

I'm liking all of these suggestions.

  • Firstly, new clothes and fun outfits.
More quests and more fun puzzle (not easy solving puzzles)
More loot and higher prizes or even rare equipment
More transport options like bigger battleships and smaller ships.
    More gun or melee options
    Bigger map.

  • I'd love to see the map expanded, different types of weather conditions. I'd love to see more article of clothing ranging from Really Elegant, to some Spanish armor. I'd love to see more weapon varients, More factions, more types of Chests, maybe a different type of raid where instead of going after a skull fort you're going after an NPC controlled Crew that has a TON of treasured goodies they're trying to deliver to an Outpost. I'd love to see them introduce Libertalia the Pirate City :3

Really puts the lack of, well, everything in this game into perspective.

  • @neptuncynic I believe Rare stated that any content additions to the game would be at no cost to the players aside from cosmetic only microtransactions. They talk a lot about Sea of Thieves as a game as a service which I feel like is going to be financed likely through players purchasing the game outright as new content comes out in the months to come or through the subscription to Game Pass.

  • I'd like to see more variations in the enemy types, their lore book has all kinds of interesting skeletons that were fused to the environment around them but werent there on release. I'd also like to see the world become more alive. As it stands there are multiple mini "forts" on some islands that are empty and without anything to do in them as well as caves and underwater temples that ccurrently serve little to no purpose. Have Order of the Souls quests to take out these mini forts for greater rewards. Or Gold Hoarders quests that give you coordinates in the ocean so you have to dive down into these otherwise hidden temples to search for treasure.

  • @jjblackhat If the game that is meant for a long time service has an announced expansion within its first year that says to the gaming community that they need to stay away from that product.

They need to fix this game before worrying about any expansions. This is the most basic bare bone game I have ever played in my life. It does need content and it needs it bad.
It really needs something, anything, for people who don't care about reputation grinds and fake pirate legend titles. You are a pirate legend, an exclusive title for everyone who grinds reputation.

Unless this expansion is free of course. But then it's not really an expansion it's a patch update.

But anyway. I'd like to see more towns, more random events like world quests (WoW) or fates, (FFXIV) added to the seas, Bigger islands with filled with life, not just chickens, pigs and snakes.

I'd like to see toys. Pets. More grog. World events. More Instruments to play in pubs. People in towns just hanging out. Music that synchronizes when you play with other people. More diverse ways to earn reputation that doesn't make it feel like a grind. More quests that aren't just fetch quests. I'd like to see voyage complete give you the rep and handing in treasure give the gold for cosmetics.

I want weather to be wilder too. Like so wild that you will sink if you don't anchor somewhere safe.

I want to see odd war efforts between outposts. I want to see East Indian Trading company putting bounties on well know pirates. I was to east indian trading as a faction that you can kill or join. Their ships doing trades or patrolling the seas. Ghost ships would be awesome as well.

I'd like to see bigger crews. Guilds even Armandas too. Sea Captain? How about a fleet admiral with ten crews at his command. Can you pull that off or will everyone just yell at each other and kill people how they want? GIANT PVP battles for loot and lawls. Maybe some sort of battle grounds for the most seasoned PVPers.

I think a major issue with the game is that they made it to centric around turning in loot to NPCs for rep and gold. But I think a pirate is much more complicated than that. He can be if he wants to be.
