Safezones and PvE server (PLS DON't).

  • I really don't understand the people crying about pvp. If you want you can just avoid pvp, that's what most people do. But this game shouldn't hold your hand. Everything can happen to you at anytime, you can loose everything in a second and that's were this game shines.
Safezones or pve servers wouldn't make sense in this game, it would totally destroy the suspension when you have 10k loot in your ship (maybe a sloop only server). And yes it's frustrating, but I think it's the right amout of frustrating. I played dayz and arma 3 altis life. The frustration there is way bigger. You could loose literally everthing in 1 minute. All these people crying about pvp have never played a open world sandbox game with pvp enabled. If you don't like the pvp in this game (which i think is the most fun of the game) than please just stop playing the game, and stop posting.
This game is about doing what you want and the game doesn't stop you. And if safezones or pve servers are a thing the game limits you.
(btw the devs stated in an interview that safezones will never be a thing, so yey)

    1. safezones WON'T ruin the game or take the fun out of it

    2. this game needs safezones so non pvp players can cash in there loot without some trigger happy scrub trying to kill them and steal there hard earned loot

    the pvp ruining this game
if you don't like it go play a different PvP game then

  • @darknessspreads The Entire point of the game is the risk of losing it. It would be like if someone complained that OPFOR tried to kill you every time you planted the defuser in Rainbow Six Siege. "I just wanted to plant and win renown without getting killed by trigger happy jerks!"

    That's what it sounds like.

And telling someone they should play a different PVP game because YOU don't like the PVP and think it should change to cater to you is honestly asinine. Games don't have to be for everyone and don't have to bend to your very will. It could always be you who finds a different game to play.

  • I think that the pve servers are a great idea, if they have a percent taken off the usual reward, as in less rep and gold gained. As it stands on the safezones, if we take the pirates code saying "disputes are settled on the waves" literally, then we have a reason for safezones existing, as you really shouldn't be attacking on outposts, but then that will leave a lot of players annoyed as that means islands also aren't fair game. I propose that we have 1 safezone in the center of the map, but you get less gold and rep selling there, and missions are slightly more expensive to buy there. It would give a hub for doing more Player to player interaction, and be a good place for community held events (if SoT ever goes in that direction.) To all players saying it would ruin PvP, the PvP is a result of the PvE side. If we don't keep both sides alive, we will run into issues.

  • So.... if you stay on the default servers how would you be impacted by people playing on other types of servers?

  • @timidobserver true. If we instate PvE servers, then safezones are uneeded as theres no pvp on those servers.

  • @primejallday I would prefer optional safe zone servers myself, but I'd be fine with optional PvE servers as well.

You're comparing a PvP game to a PvE game with a few sporadic PvP elements here and there.

I enjoy Battlefield 1 immensely for PvP but in SoT it's basically just a griefing mechanic. You gain nothing for doing it. The time you wasted finding a ship, not to mention a ship with something valuable on it, could be better spent just doing the PvE yourself.

It kills it for the PvE crowd that there's almost nothing to do, what is there to do is time consuming however and then having it stolen after wasting a lot of time in a game with little rewards as it is, will kill it fast.

  • I'd keep the game as it is, and add instances and in-game parties, for god sake.
I have no issues with in game PVP, but when you are in a fort for example, you should enter an instance, and respawn back when you're done to try to sell your booty.
And no, you should get experience for completing voyages, not for cashing in.
    It's damn stupid.

all i see here is your comparing apples with oranges ! you'r one of the outpost campers and spawn killers ar you! not everyone is like you, no life and loads of time because you don't have a job or to young to have one! (not meant to be mean, its just reality)
this game is in dire need of savezones, the toxic playerbase will kill this great game

  • You guys might as well be asking for a different game. Do u guys understand how entitled and selfish you sound? "Oh i really want to play this game where the only threat and problems asrise from pvp, but i want the devolpers to spend time making sure me and my [Mod Edited] friends dont get shot at!" You guys knew what you were getting into. theres no reason to sink, ever, unless your skills arent up to par. If you dont like the game for what it is supposed to be, dont ask it to change, change what game you are playing. Shesh.

This is where you are inherently wrong. SoT is a PVP game at the core. You're just declaring and disillusioned that it is something it's not. RARE themselves have said this is a game about pirates stealing from pirates. Just because a game is open world and has PVE elements does not mean its a PVE game. DayZ has "PVE" But good luck convincing anyone its not a PVP game.

You can't just claim something is PVE on the basis you do not like PVP. It's absolutely an entitled thing to do, demanding a game be something else because you can't handle it. I wouldn't go into a Chinese restaurant and demand it make all-american burgers just because I don't like it.

You get no titles from PvP. No gold. No commendations. No clothing. No accessories. No weapons. No new ships.

You get nada from PvP, it's all PvE. DayZ is a PvP game. SoT is definitely not a PvP game and the developers never claimed it was one to begin with. At most they said there's always the danger of someone stealing your loot, which is right.

That doesn't equal to this being a PvP game, because again, you get ZERO recognition i game for doing it, that's all PvE.

Yea DayZ... that example of community excellence. You want this game to dwindle down to a few 20 sociopaths, that spend hours prone on top of a tower in electro waiting for that ONE bamby so they can finally shoot the poor guy and gain nothing from it.... and then make that person quit the game because the game was supposed to be "survival against zombies in a fictional cold war era where you were supposed to cooperate to survive the infected menace - since there was no "pve" it just turned into a breeding ground for the worst kind of human being.

Good example of a game. You see this here Rare? Take notes from this chap here and let your game turn into DayZ.... (of course killing the game in the process but, hey... his will be done)

Oh and by the way, I love PvP, when there's a purpose to it, instead of ganking another player, for little or no reward.

  • I've found in my experience if u dont wanna take a fight u can pretty much decide not to. It's always easyer to evade a fight then to engage one.

The loot isnt theirs until they cash it in, and until they cash it in, its fair game. PVP makes this game. Yeah it has respawn issues at the moment but itll get fixed.

I dont know why youre telling @Joda1123 to play a different pvp game? Maybe its people like you who should go play some casual nintendo fun.

  • I think they are missing the point of being a Pirate. Pirates are not nice people we rob, maim, murder, drink heavily and search for treasure. It's insane that people are complaining about it. The first day I played I got murdered instantly and my Sloop was stolen and I was like cool.

  • Wow this post went to mud flinging monkeys fast. We need both the PvP crowd and PvE crowd to stay in order for the game to live, and in regards to PvP/PvE people telling others to find a different game, why? I view this like I view Minecraft, a "make your own adventure" type game. I like to PvP, hell my most memorable moment in this game is ramming into another ship and shooting the enemy captain while we are both at the wheel. But saying that the game needs to lose one side of the community is just a stupid and ignorant way to drive away players. And to the PvE people, I understand how frustrating it is to lose your 2-4 chests to a PvP crew when you spent minutes getting that loot, only for some a***s to take it all in under a minute but the game needs a PvP scene to help stay alive. Also, to the people saying it's the point of the game, games are meant to be ENJOYED. That's the point of every (good) game.

  • @joda1123

    Ahoy there!

We currently have a Community Mega thread where we are collecting ideas, suggestions, feedback and opinion on balancing the game to cater for ALL playstyles.

The reason we try and collect feedback in one place is so that Rare devs are easily able to locate the relevant discussion in one place, rather than having to search through numerous duplicate style posts which also get lost very quickly in the fast moving flow of the forums at the current time.

I'll close this one down and let you sail on over to the Mega thread and add yer voice to the discussions there.

    https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/41277/mega-thread-balancing-exploration-and-player-combat-playstyles?page=1

We'd also like to remind all pirates that we strongly discourage the use of derogatory terms such as 'snowflake', 'git gud' or 'carebear' as they are disrespectful, as per the Pirate Code.
