Can't play the game, stuck in a screen

  • I'm sorry if this is not the place to post, I am just so frustrated, seeing all my friends can play but i cannot. I pre-ordered the game, and it worked for one day. Now it has become unplayable.

Every time I start the game, I get an instant screen, the first screen, it's a picture of some ships on the sea, and a cannon fireing. It's the very first start screen. Around the picture is a gray background. But here is where it stops. I tried launching the game 50 times, restarted my computer 10 times, re-installed the game, logged out of Microsoft many times, ran it as administrator. Nothing works, I NEVER get past this screen.

I don't know much about computers or internet, but I do know I have a super computer, I can handle very demanding brand new games on highest graphics with ultra settings, and my internet is fibre cable, close to perfect, with litterally no lag in any other game, so there should be nothing wrong from my end.

What can I do, this is getting so crazy frustrating :(

  • Same here
    I've tried everything, install / reinstall insider hub and xbox app, free app from store, reinstall game, drivers, disable windows firewall. Nothing works;

  • Same problem. I have a ticket open for the problem. I have nothing to add outside of misery loves company. If I uncover anything that works I will let you know.

I do know from researching that this was a problem in testing and is occurring to a subset of post launch players. None of the suggested solutions that I have uncovered have worked for me.

Best of luck to us all!

  • Okey, thank God I'm not alone, at least I might not have to reinstall my entire computer or anything.

    Kept trying, but nothing still.

Would very much appriciate an answer if anyone find a solve.

  • OK- the solution at the bottom of this thread solved my problem.

    Thank you @Landrake

  • Maybe this will help?

  • Nope, I tried both Mahakala70's tip about another computer user, that did not work.

I tried following the guide from Microsoft themselves, it did not work.

    Still the same grey screen.

How do you make a support ticket? I tried the Support page but can't find "make report" or "open ticket" or something like that.

  • For me it is Support/ My Requests/ Raise a Support Request button.

  • @mahakala70 No such button seems to exist. I only see "Your open requests" and "Request History".

Seriously though, I feel I will never play this game, it will never work for me, what are my chances at a refund?

This is a complete disaster. NOTHING works.

  • @xadexbox Give this a shot:

I hear you on the frustration, it was driving me nuts.

  • Ahoy @xadexbox!

Rare knows the issue and has said that affected users will need to wait for a Windows update (that is, it seems that the issue is from Microsoft -_-).

    This was their reply

    "Ahoy there,

Unfortunately we are aware a small subset of players are still experiencing the crash on launch even after applying the fix below. A Windows Update is due to release in March with a fix for this issue. Please grab this Windows Update when it is available and if your issue persists please get back in touch.

    Regards,
Sea of Thieves – Player Support"

But for a last try, I hope some of these other solutions will help you. Some are already mentioned in the article that Rdizz posted.

    • [Link] Install a random application from the microsoft store (then uninstall it if you want).
    • [Link] Try changing your Local Account to your Microsoft Account or vice versa.
    • Restart the pc.
    • Reinstall the game.
    • The Windows Update service may be stopped.
    • A possible conflict with another program:

I managed to fix it. What was causing the issue was a program called virtual audio cable. something i use to split audio channels using software rather than hardware.
