Can't Unequip one clothing item anymore?

So what happened to the ability to click an item to equip and click it again to unequip?
If I wanna see what a new hat looks like, in order to unequip it if I don't want to wear it, I have to unequip ALL.
That's not how it worked in the beta, so why change it?
