playing 3 person team, 2 friends dc and while connecting back, spots fill up with random ppl, my friends missed out on the loot as we just finished the skull raid. and now i get thrown into the brig and they sink the ship and now all chests are gone. Put a Private party setting jesus c****t.
seriously? this random ppl joining is ruining the game.
@swiftevo-ix-se me and my buds run into this if 1 leaves and a random joins best thing to do is vote them into the brig till they bounce.
@steffoyargh The main issue is that we can spend 3 or 6 hours on a single ship fully stocked on supplies and when one or two friends leave we want to invite another, however we usually have to wait a few minutes for them to finish whatever they're doing first before they can join... then while we're waiting a random or two shows up instead, they then refuse to leave after we tell them we had a friend coming and continue to be anywhere from uncooperative to down right stupid and ruin all our hard work.
The opposite is true as well, it's no end to annoying when I matchmake into a game to play only to be called names, teased, and thrown in the brig for no reason except trying to play.
I stick around in the brig to spite those jerks and alt tab to watch youtube or something, they can either let me out and learn not to abuse a system meant for toxicity not slot-holding, or they can give me a cut of the reward while I kick back and watch youtube for their abuse, or they can scuttle and ragequit and lose everything, cuz I have time to burn to spite the jerks that think it's okay to be jerks to randoms. :P
But you could just join literally any other crew, not a crew that's actively waiting on somebody they know to join. You're being way more of a jerk than they are by not just sucking it up and taking thirty seconds to join a different game. And regardless, that doesn't change the fact that they should absolutely implement some type of private party function that doesn't allow randoms to join at all. That would solve the problem entirely, and that's the entire point of this thread.
@steffoyargh said in seriously? this random ppl joining is ruining the game.:
uhm you can choose to play with just your friends and not having randoms join,it says right there when you press gallion and you get two options, either join a full crew or make a small gallion crew. small gallion crew is invite only/join from the app.
lol that isnt what selecting a small and large galleon crews does xD

Exactly, that's not how it works. It's just selecting whether you want a 3 or 4 man crew. Mainly to stop what was happening in the beta and other tests where 3 friends would stick the 4th random in the brig because they wanted to play as a 3. If you are a crew of 3 and someone disconnects their spot can be filled by a random because it happened to us last night.
@shralla You want the slot for your friend? Then ask. It's not hard, and most people would gladly leave if asked. Don't say a word and brig me? Then suck it up and live with the consequences, I'm not going anywhere, you shouldn't be abusing an in-game system anyways.
The brig is meant for toxic players. The kind that drop the anchor every 15 seconds, or constantly put the sails up after you asked them to stop. Not to help you play with your friends. As you say, "suck it up" and start a new ship, if you create a matchmaking ship then expect matchmaking.
Also isn't there that rumor that Rare is adding the ability to reserve slots? So it's moot. I agree that private parties would be nice though, or friends-only/invite-only options.
agreed it would be practical if players are able to lock themselves in and out of player ques so that they can play with the few they have and have the extra slots they have reserved for invites, so that they can flex between 3 man and 4 man crews without the need of reloading their session (saving the trouble of rejoining a server when the game is at peak performance), it would solve lots of the issues of just being forced to brig a not so loyal crew member just for doing actions the rest of the crew don't want to do,
keep in mind that they didn't know what everyone is up to and they should learn who among the players they joined is in Charrge and follow their commands, like the other loyal crew members, the can only be one Captain per ship after all, that makes sending new players to the brig unjustifiable.
I had that issue 2 days ago when I had a new player joined my crew of misfits (all randoms), who wasn't aware that we were selling lots of stuff and tried to leave port while we were selling all but 3 powder barrels, something we planned to bring to a Skeleton fort just north of us, but instead that player ended up blowing up that cargo, destroying the ship and all the supplies we had to outlast most if not all bombardments from the undead and any nearby player crews, fully justifying our action towards sending that player to the brig, due to their acts of Griefing, sadly when we got to the fort, I ordered that the rest of the crew should get that guy out of the brig, they served their time and we needed everyone on the field of battle, even the conscript, but nothing happened, the player shortly left and we successfully claimed the fort and a portion of its rewards, due to the bug with the loading time for rewards we were only awarded about a 1/3rd to half its rewards, despite that we claimed it uncontested...
@uvg-reign haha you sure? i have never had a random join while selecting a small crew with only 3 people. well in that case my bad:o
@steffoyargh please read. we started a game together, they got disconnected, while reconnecting to my game, random people were forced into my game preventing my friends from rejoining. READ
@steffoyargh No, it's not. When the people in the group get disconnected, after a certain time the game puts in random people to fill the slot. It's ok if that's what people want, but in this case obviously not.
@beigelantern08 ah yes, grief other players because one of your friends disconnected. I’m sure you would like that if someone else did it to you...
@swiftevo-ix-se dude relaxe,i did read your post i tried posting an answer about a "private" crew since you wanted a privacy options for crew's.
but apparantly i was mistaken in my comment.
@reeleepog yeh i have been informed about that now. i just thought the option was if you queue with 3 ppl then you party is locked since we never got a random joining us when we queue 3 ppl. but anyways my bad.
i would say getting placed in the brig for no reason is rather stupid.. people should just ask politely and let them know they are waiting for a friend on a quest.. most people would leave.. i joined a game and was in the brig and am new to the game so i thought it was a quest and stayed there for long until i magicaly appeard in an island and then in the sea and no idea w*f was going on lol.. so after my first 45 mins in the game i restarted and met a nice friendly crew and it was a lot of fun....45 mins wouldnt have been wasted if the crew in that ship would just let me know ...!
I've only had one bad experience with randoms so far. Out of about 10 that have popped into crew when a friend gets an unplanned DC one decided to shoot out gunpowder barrel collection. Everyone else has been understanding when we politely explained what had happened.
Maybe the key is to try polite. If a crew are rude when I spawn on their ship I'm less likely to be cooperative. Be polite, yeah NP let me know when you're friend can reconnect and I'll jump out, that way no other random will pop into this spot. Also locked crews takes away a large part of the social aspect of this game. My friend list used to be empty. Now it's full of good sports who I've enjoyed sailing with.
I have to agree with the OP. The ability to lock your party to disallow randoms would be nice. I have a huge list of people who want to play with us, but when one goes away, and a random fills the spot, its hard not to be a little upset that your friend missed out by mere seconds to someone you don't know.
Brig abuse could be avoided by allowing groups to vote whether they want Random joins or invites only. Then the poor random people (Who most of the time are cool with leaving, but you do get those jerks who won't leave when they see chests on board), won't be subject to harassment or brig time.
And that isn't even discussing random crashes or drops and your spot is taken by some guy who thinks he has a right to the treasure you just helped collect, but cannot log back into your crew to turn in.
There's more than enough people playing SoT that there will be plenty of random crews open for those people looking to make new friends. I just think its unfair to everyone to force Random Joins.
And for all those people saying "Its fine if I'm locked in the brig, I'll just stay and take their chest turn ins while semi-AFK" that's part of the problem, and not helpful to anyone at all. Its just as much a jerk move as being brigged in the first place.
@daveyjay1984
just because ur experience is like that doesn't mean everyone elses is. this was the first time this happened and its something that shouldn't. Look at almost ANY cooperative multiplayer game theres always a private party or public party option.this isnt about joining ppls games. this about preventing my own PRIVATE party i made and have people invade that party with 0 chance for my party to rejoin.
do u honestly think people are going to leave your game when u ahve a boat full of chests from a raid just because u asked nicely? l**o 9k+ haul that we spent over an hour to get fighting other people.
i have never stated that we shouldn't have an open party system. but getting disconnected then preventing them from rejoining the game after all that hard work. this is never something that should happen.
@steffoyargh It's not, I invited my friends, they left for a bit, I got pared with randoms, I couldn't remove them. It's a feature we need.
@swiftevo-ix-se I've had people join my game when I was full of loot and destroy it in front of me. They jumped overboard with it and swam to a mermaid and delete it. Or leave it behind, make me stop to get it, then sail away without me so I have to delete it to get back, or die by sharks. There are abusive players. I didn't ask him to leave, he chose after 5 seconds of being in my game to go after me, take my things, and ruin my game. All my loot taken so neither of us could have it. He spent 2 hours doing this.
@swiftevo-ix-se Yes, I do believe people will leave a boat full of chests because I have seen it more often than not. Another option is to try and hide your chests better so that when a random joins it's not so obvious that you are rolling in coin. They will be even more likely to leave when asked politely to do so, if they don't know how valuable it is to stay.
When i got immediately put in a brig I just sent them messages telling them to enjoy the music and that Im putting a rubberband on the controller. Sat in a brig for over an hour playing music constantly, while i was eating food and watching tv just to spite em :) Was free loot and I didnt even have to do anything hahaha. Eventually they let me out and got me to vote other dude in there. I laughed at him and told him "Looks like the table has turned b***h" and danced :)
@shralla The idea is that they shouldn't need to do this, they should be able to make it so you couldn't join so they don't have to waste your time. It's easier to make a small change than hoping people will always work together.
@crusader-zorro wait till some a hole befriends you then when your not watching sabotages your ship via powder keg or by other means it happens all the time. In rare cases 1 friend disconnects and another joins. I tell them to leave if they don't brig time if you don't get that then you haven't met a player that just wants to create chaos bc it does happen and will happen to you until they fix a friendly sinking a ship on purpose.
@crusader-zorro I ask them first to leave if they don't screw em I will bring em and wait a ungodly amount of time. Guess you haven't been sabotaged yet full of loot some players don't loot they want to p**s people off. Just wait until you experience this a couple times then you might rethink what I said.
