So, I was thinking: There really isn't a whole lot to do with your money in this game yet. Something I think would be fun is the ability to buy new songs to play on your instruments while at sea. Sometimes there is downtime on deck and I enjoy playing the songs and goofing off. Well, I certainly know that not everyone will find it worth time to invest in songs to play, so that would add another level of diversity and choice for players. Might add a little fun if you happen to know one of your friends invests in songs to make the trip a little less mundane. đ

@vyx I agree. I was actually rather disappointed with the 4 songs they chose to play. They are all really good but I don't understand why they had to make new songs from scratch when there are real folk songs and shanties that have been around since the 1700's. And I don't know about it but I feel that most of them must be in the public domain as there was the influx of folk singers in the 60's and 70's that sang and played pretty much a good lot of them.
To be fair, the songs in the game ARE real songs. I love that Rise of the Valkyries made it in, like, for real. I just think it would add so much more if we could add to, and even customize, our selection in time.
Rare said recently that new shanties can be acquired/discovered in books. But I have approached a few books on various islands and haven't found any interactive ones. I even tried playing music near them to activate something. Maybe that feature isn't in the game yet.
If that's how they plan to introduce new shanties, it is probably the only way because I doubt there are many more shanties to come anytime soon. There will be other instruments, like fiddles and drums. Rare has said the latter isn't in the game yet.

I found one on an island somewhere and it let me read it. But it was just a funny story about not being a jerk to your crewmates. Lol
@hallower1980 is that accurate? If so itâs really cool we can acquire more shanties. Really disappointed that there wasnât any new ones in for launch.
I was under the impression though that these shanties in books were just lyrics?
Thatâll suck if thatâs the case. Iâve found a few readable books on islands that give new treasure maps and funny stories so who knows...You would have though someone would have found one by now though tbf...
@hudson-rl Where are y'all finding these readable books? Is it one book by itself in a cave or washed ashore? Or did you find an interactive book among a bunch of purely cosmetic books?
Aside from the tavern books, I have tried interacting with scattered books in a couple beached wrecks, like the one on Shipwreck Bay. But nothing.
@hallower1980 yeah they were intractable amongst other books. I just come across them on random islands. I couldnât recall which ones (possibly one on shark bait cove).
There was almost like a shrine set up on the island. A few steps in sand leading to a pedestal.
