Game crashes "randomly" when in-game.

@pynnn Yes family share does not work. A day or two after luanch i found out about family share, so my much younger half sister who is autistic could play with me. She played with me in the betas. She pretty much just likes to hang out on the ship. Anyway i had no crashing issues until we started playing using the family share using 2 PC's. If I was already playing, the instant she would sign in, it would usually crash my game. It almost seemed like it was on a timer of 15 minutes or so. We would 2man sloop and constantly be joining back into the game. Shorty after joining in, the other would crash out. When she wasn't playing I had no crashing issues. I decided I would just buy another copy for her account, now we can play together and there is no more crashing back and forth.

Sharing doesnt work for 2 PC's. however sharing with an Xbox does work. My brother shares his copy with his son using his xbox 1.

Ummm, maybe I am not the only one who wants the devs to give an information officially about how "family share" works with this game....

  • @d***y-alone This didn't do anything for me. There is a serious bug that keeps the game crashing on me randomly and there seems to be no consistency to it. It happens in the water, it happens on land, it happens on boats, it happens while attacking, it happens while walking around, it happens while firing cannons, it happens while performing emotes. It can sometimes happen repeatedly within a few minutes, it can happen after a few hours of gameplay.

There is something seriously broken with this game that doesn't allow my computer to be able to handle playing it at all. I just purchased 3 months of Xbox Live so I could at least play the game in some form without constantly losing all my progress I made. A problem this major should not exist in a AAA title. It has made even playing the game at all feel stressful because anytime there's a slight stutter I tense up thinking I'm about to lose everything due to freezing.

  • I have the same issues. Random crashes with 0,5sec grey screen and no error. Not been able to get a single piece of loot traded in.

  • @d***y-alone Thank you. I will try this when i get home.

  • @pynnn You're right about that!! Iwould really like to know the devs point of view about family sharing. I was hoping the crashing would stop after yesterdays 20G update, but no, still crashing. Such a shame of a really fun game...

  • @d***y-alone Unfortunately your way did not work for me, sorry :(

    @Bottleofrum123
Now what I really wanna know about is how "family share" should work in this case.

    Any comment from devs please?

  • @pynnn When you buy a "Play anywhere" game, you can play it on the PC and the XBOX (that's why these games are so expensive) and you can share the game for 4 devices (XBOX and PC) and you can play separately.

  • Having the same issue, bought the game three days ago and I couldn't play for more than 15 minutes without suddenly crashing to desktop without any error message whatsoever, incredibly annoying. Also, Nvidia GPU (GTX 1060).

Any news on this matter ? Have any devs at least aknowledged it ?

Edit: Happens anytime when playing alone or with friends both on PC and Xbox so I don't think that matters.

  • @pynnn @D***y-aLoNe @Muharai No it doesn't work. Tried it myself. 2 people work. 2+ initiates crashes. It would seem that the Play anywhere system supports 2 concurrent users. And that is what is causing the crashing for us. Its strange that it doesn't just deny the third from starting the game, could have saved us a lot of trouble. After a week of troubleshooting I'm atleast 99% sure its the sharing that's causing the problem. Hope this information helps you all to. Cheers

  • What really grind my gears is that developers don't pronounce themselves about the problem.

I can't believe they aren't aware of the problem and still muted about this.

  • Same issues. I play anywhere from 1-120 mins and it will restart by brand new pc. Gtx 1080 8600k.. everything is updated. Even have GeForce thing on.

  • @odyseus-odyssey I don't share mine and it crashes

  • I'm on GTX 1080 Ti, i7 8700k 32GB RAM.
I never had a single crash or a hiccup. Odd.

  • Same issue here. Tried everything.
The problem seems to be the family sharing because I share my account and it crashes. I applied for the 15 day free trial of the gamepass and then it stop crashing.
I presume it is because the licence robot of the game. It checks every X minutes if everybody playing have licence and when it found 2 players with the same licence, it kicks one of them.
Please, DEVS, fix this as this is really annoying and 70bucks for a contentless beta game it a really expensive price

  • I'm also having this issue off and on. I spent a bunch of time on stream Tuesday just relogging into the game to join back up with the group I was running a skull fort with. The crashes happened randomly and there didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to them. They were at random intervals, and there was 0 warning.

Running an Intel i7 6800K and a GTX 1070 with Windows 10. All drivers updated, Windows Updated, and reinstalled multiple times.

  • @roosterhome These aren't pc issues. They're bugs from the game.

  • I just sent support request on the following page with the URL of this thread.
    https://support.seaofthieves.com/hc/en-gb/requests/new
It looks like devs never be aware of this thread.
Maybe you guys want to send yours as well if you have time.

  • @pynnn I just sent support request too
Let's see the response that they will give to us

  • @xxxfarmerxxx Hm incredibly interesting and annoying. Could you see if you have have a regitry in your 'event manager'. Can you go to: Start and then type: Event Viewer. See if there is an Error log. Since my pc doesn't crash. But the game does

  • Bump, still crashing randomly, the game is literally unplayable you can't finish a single voyage like this...

  • The fun thing is that i sent a support ticked 8 days ago, and they just said they "will" check it.

  • @srgank67 i am not family sharing yet i have the same issue

  • i am having the random issue of PC version crashes as well but i dont get errors or anything nothing is coming up in the event viewer either... so i am stumped as to what to do here. just last night it was crashing on Xbox for me as well. 4 times is 6 mins in the middle of a fortress Raid.

i don't use family sharing either so....

  • I wish the devs could at least confirm that it is caused by family sharing so I could be sure to buy Xbox game pass for a month and play while they're working on the issue (if they're working on it at all!)

  • Friend had the same issue. Try turning off V-Sync

  • @im-axis-rahl I have V-sync always off, still crashes.

  • At this point I'm done with the game. Even if they did fix it, there's nothing to do but annoyingly difficult raids that I'll inevitably get griefed while trying to complete. And regular voyages don't pay out enough. There's just no incentive for me to care about the issue anymore lol. Good luck Rare.

  • Got the same issue crashing every 15 minutes following grey screen. I suggest we should write about this issue on facebook/twitter any social media as well since Rare didn't even include our problem in Launch Status Update (https://www.seaofthieves.com/news/launch-status-update) which is updated daily even though we are writing about it for over a week. Maybe they will hear us out since social media is powerful marketing tool and potential game buyers might see posts about the ongoing issue of game being unplayable for many players that spent money on SoT. Game website and forums are mostly made of accounts of players that already bought the game so Rare might take their time recognising the problem. They do not even respond to our tickets and I think they might catch the wind in their sales if we go beyond the forum and reach wider audience even if its just about noticing, responding and confirming the problem. Let's go lads.

  • I guess they didn't care and if we can't play the game because a game bug our only option is to ask for a refund and move on, sadly.

  • So many people is having this bug , I sent a report and everything they say is

'Thank you for reporting this issue! Your report has been sent over to our Test team for further investigation.

Thank you for helping to steer the course of Sea of Thieves.'

  • Turn off IPv6 in your router, everything will work afterwards.

  • @captainbenedikt i don't family share and it happens to me anyway so it isn't family sharing specifically.

  • @x1-two I tried, it did not solve

  • @X1-Two
Tried disabling IPv6, does not work. F**k this game.
