Game Chat/ Proximity Chat?

  • (Xbox) So far, no one in our crew has been able to hear one another in game chat; ONLY if we are in a private party can we communicate. None of us have heard enemy chat or crew chat via in game proximity.

I've checked all account settings- they're good to go. in game settings look like they should be good, too. What gives with game chat / proximity chat? Does it work?

Ideally, would love to have crew on headset and prox chat over speakers for location detection of enemies. Is this possible?

  • We had an issue, but turned out to be a crewmate's headset.
Had not issues last night and could all hear each other, as well as a couple of crews from other Sloops and Galleons.

Wonder if it's intermittent to specific instances like the gold and other bugs are? Did you raise it with the tech team?

  • @sshteeve Where do I file a report to tech team? And, honest question, will anyone read it? I imagine with the hundreds of thousands of people having server problems, the tech team is probably swamped.

Curious, when you say 'problem with headset', what type of problem? All of us can hear each other just fine in private party chat. Just Zero comms when we all leave party and revert to game chat. We're all using the original xbox one headsets that were included with the console, I'm fairly certain.

i think likely it was a separate issue given that he simply quit the game, unplugged his headset and reset his controller, then all was fine. Happened to him in beta as well.

There used to be a way to submit a problem, but I can't find it this morning (wanted to raise concerns about achievements not unlocking). I think it was simply for the beta and scale test though to raise concerns.

  • @sshteeve
You're right though - they will be getting plenty of live data to let them know what is and isn't going well.
It's not the smoothest of starts, but I think they have done a pretty good job when compared to other MMO releases.

  • @kovert-opps I have been having the same problem. I can't hear anyone and they can't hear me using in game prox chat. I have checked all of the setting and then turned then on and off. Still it won't work, I play on PC and I have friends that play x box and it works but I also have friends on PC or works for. My only last thought would be to reinstall the game.

  • They need a setting for proximity chat for speakers or headset.

  • Just an on the spot thought, as my crew was experiencing this last night.

May it have something to do with some party members disengaging the directional option? I just remembered I turned off the directional option under proxy chat settings before experiencing this issue.

Let me know what you think and I'll test this later tonight.

  • @kovert-opps I only got it working after I went to my microsoft account privacy settings and set everything to public....

We use Discord for our crew voice chat tho as its far better quality we just wanted the proximity working so we could hear people we ran into lol.

  • ok, so I had this problem too. I have tried EVERYTHING I read to fix it and nothing worked. So I just played and had one of my teammates that could hear me in discord translate for me. I fixed the issue and it was so simple, the Devs should have found this way sooner.

My problem: My crew could hear me in game, I could hear most of them in game, but I could not hear proximity chat, and others outside of my crew could not hear me at all.

I play on PC and Xbox one (no problems on X1). My PC uses a USB mic/headset and I play with a Xbox 360 wired USB gamepad.

The FIX: My USB headset is wireless and it died, so I grabbed the old Xbox360 headset and plugged it into the gamepad.... BAM!!! I hear EVERYTHING!

So just to confirm that this is where the problem is, I unplugged my Xbox gamepad and started the game again with my headset on. Guess what? BAM... It was working. if you have this problem too, check to see if you have a headset port on your controller. I would say it is safe to assume that it has some priority over proximity chat that overrides our settings. The proximity chat is there, it is just being redirected to the headset port on the controller.

I hope this helps all of the MUTES out there so we can hear the trash talk that comes with the battle!

  • @foster11873 Unfortunately, I am playing on XB1, with OEM controller and OEM headset.

All my privacy settings are correct.

    Still, no prox chat.

    Oh well.

  • Then theres us mutes who will never be heard. Me n my wife play in the same room on two big screen tvs. To get the echo down we have my stereo and her tv speakers on 0 and use headphones for sound. If we both use mic headsets though the echo is ridiculous so we now have a usb mic on my laptop with a different account so our party can hear us but that locks me out of game chat forever. Xb1 usb mic support is a need for these situations.
