I hate how my pirate looks :( I wish I could change him without deleting my progress

    So I spent about 20 minutes looking through the IPG, and found a spanish explorer looking pirate that looked pretty good I thought. Started playing with him, and liked him initially, until I started doing emotes and noticed how goofy and unthreatening he looked. I wanted a stern looking pirate that could double as a royal navy style admiral or a humorless and tough looking pirate, and the face looked good at first.

    Now I really regret my choice. I wanted something more piratey and tough looking and his pretty boy happiness annoys me. I hope rare gives us an opportunity to change our pirates sometime. To change this now means I lose 10 levels of gold hoarder and 3k gold.

    The IPG just makes it so hard to get the pirate I want.

    Maybe they can add it for a high fee that way there’s a good reason to spend gold too!

    I think there is option to delet pirate but unsure if you lose ur progression .? One for rare/deckhands @Deckhands

    I guess it's only 3k loot and 10 levels of gold hoarder and 2 levels of souls. But I gotta do it. I hate looking at this pirate now. He bugs me. What a pain. Also, I always seem to get only blonde pirates for some reason :( They don't look blonde in character creator though.

    You can "favorite" a pirate during the selection phase. When you "favorite" a pirate, you can still cycle through other iterations without the fear of losing one you may like.

    I did at least 15 rounds of iterations until I landed on my favorite looking guy by far.

    This is not a MMORPG where you have multiple characters. If I feel like playing as a fat grandma looking character one day, I should have the option to change it AND keep my progress. The idea of "its an adventure with a randomly assigned pirate to you that you will end up loving" is really foolish. I just deleted my progress and now expect to spend hours finding the right character. I am really disappointed in that as on my very first mission I received a chest of 1k grogs and a captains chest.

    I completely agree with you! We only have one pirate. And Rare's motto is "Be the pirate you want to be" and they failed to allow us to do that. I want to try a male pirate for a while, and one I like looking at, and then, I want to try a female one so I can enjoy the best of both fashions. Is that too much to ask?

    I'm going to be losing 3k gold and 12 levels of progress, so I guess I'll spend a lot of time trying out pirates until I find one I can live with. Just wish we could make more characters.

    I understand they were going for a certain art style, and I like that, but it is not that difficult to have sliders for pregenerated stuff. It does not have to be like Ark, where players make grotesque and unnatural characters. It could be like other MMOs where you have a selection of stuff for each category and you pick what you want.

    I want a character like the red headed female in the trailer. How often have I seen freckles? Once. Red hair? Once. Time spent in IPG? An hour so far.

    This concept is so foolish. It would be acceptable if you did not have to restart from scratch, which is beyond foolish.

    Same, And I really wish they made actual customization instead of the infinite pirate generator.

    Spent so long trying to find a good pirate I like.

    Yeah the IPG is dumb. Me and my friend spent like hours just trying to not pick the most odious looking f****r.

    They should just make it so you can have multiple characters with different appearances, that all share the same progress.

    The existing pirate management UI looks like its already designed to handle that, although it only lists the ONE pirate you have right now.

    The IPG might have worked to tick the boxes of the designers who were determined to to present a smorgasboard of inclusivity and equality and whatever else in their 'Pirate Data' review, but for the end user the IPG is just an absolute ballache.

    None of them are 'quite right', and for a game that players are set to play for multiple years (maybe as many as 4 or 5) that's just disheartening. Why they didn't listen to players in the Beta and AT LEAST have a middle ground where you can pick Gender and Colour to get started I have NO idea.

    It feels like there's SEVEN MILLION, EIGHT HUNDRED AND NINETY THREE THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED AND SIX pirate grandmas ready to trade their homemade scones for the high seas but absolutely NO NORMAL HUMAN MALES WITH AN IQ ABOVE 76 who fancy cracking skulls and shooting sharks.

    They need SOME options to help players narrow it down. I'm not saying they need 400 types of 'flat nose with moderately protruding hair and 4-7 blackheads'. Just SOME help would be nice. If I want to make a guy then HALF the IPG offerings are already c**p.

    Making a character in a game where you can make a character should ALWAYS be exciting.

    SoT's IPG just isn't.

    They could let you pick up to 4 or 5 pirate characters to save to your list of playable characters. You pick one upon logging in, or swap out inside a tavern. No loss of progress!

    Like I said, they already have the UI for it.

    Oh, I love this idea of having 4 or 5 pirate characters to choose from in my list of playable characters! I'd pay for that! Then I could make several pirates I like, do male and female, and be totally happy!

    Well truth be told, I've now deleted 5 pirates, and have settled on one. Still sour I can't have a second character so I can play a female too, but I think I got my male character somewhat okay. Still, would have been happy for sliders or just SOMETHING that let's me choose what I want!

    Don't look back, 10 levels is some hours work, but to hate your character forever is a pain.

    I agree they need to add the ability to change later if you want. Weird you can't.

    Pirate creator is awful. The lightning is dark as hell so they don't look the same out in the world. Constantly get the same pirates over and over again. If their excuse is right and they didn't want a bunch of PotC clones running around then don't add or make assets that look like PotC characters? They could have easily kept all of the pirate types they have in the game but let you mix and match. It's annoying sitting in the creator for 20mins+ hoping to get something that'll catch your eye or something you can at least deal with.

    QFT.. Can't see a bloody thing.. and even when you can (on certain models) they're pulling some stupid pose so you can't see their face properly.

    Let us move around the currently selected pirate and press a key to trigger a 'random' animation--so we can see what they're like when they're NOT offering a cannonball up to the heavens.

    I love how these people are complaining about 20 minutes of searching.... I spent 2-3 hours , and I STILL was disatisfied by the options. More so because I picked 3-4 that were good, decided to load up the game with one.... took off his mustache and realized he looked ridiculous! SO i deleted and went back to character creation onlyto realize that all my favorited options were gone and now i had to find something i liked from 0. Legit, I spent 3 hours with the IPG yesterday and I barely found something I liked. I found multiple characters that combined would have had all the features I wanted.... but what they have now is practically impossible to work with lol.

    I appreciate what they were trying to do, but they should have at least included filters... such as 1. Sex 2. Skin Color 3. Hair color 4. Body Type , then at least with those selections decided you could randomize all the other features/characteristics .

    I almost picked a girl at first. The whole build of this female was quite "man" like, although it did have some shading around the eyes, but I thought that was just "his" style... you know like Captain Jack Sparrow sort of eye shadow. Was just about ready to confirm the selection until I finally noticed some resemblings of... shall we say... k******s? took a real close look at few different angles and yep! That guy's definitely a member of the "opposite" gender. Not that I have anything against playing as a female. They are very smart, cunning, and brave but can you imagine if I'd actually confirmed this selection and played for a while before coming to this realization? I would have been quite upset that I'm stuck playing as an avatar I had not intended to or erase all my progress and start over. Come on Rare... give the people what they want and allow them to change their avatar with no consequence.

    I'd just like to add that I too want this feature. I fired the game up in a haste because my friends wanted to play, I chose just some random preset pirate character and now I'm stuck with this look for good unless I want to start over from scratch. It's a real b****r.

    Hey! I spent 4 hours after this message still trying, deleting 5 different pirates. I found a decent one finally, but still would have liked more options. This is a big deal. When character creation freezes you from playing because you're stuck with something you can't control, that's not cool.

    And I really want a feature that lets us pick 5 pirates or so that we have made, so we can try the game out with different pirates from time to time. I want to make a male, female, a fat pirate, and more. Just so I can play the pirate I want whenever I want to change it up.

    i'm starting to regret buying this game, no character customization "and no rnd stuff is not ok in 2018 rare", then the content in-game, are you serious 60 dollars for THIS! people need to start open their eye's, devs have to stop doing this type of p**p. don't get me wrong game is fun... for an hour and then i'm bored to the bone, no wonder player grief others like crazy, there is nothing else to do really.
    this is more like a 20 dollar game, not a (|@#{) 60 dollar game. "don't care what the fanboys say, deep down they know it but don't want to say it"

    Is there any plans of making us reselect our pirate? There is no mention of it anywhere ingame that selecting this is a no turning back kind of options. I didn't want to waste alot of time character selecting because I thought i could change it later. I now have about level 15 with each of the factions and also about 20k gold + i already spent about 20k gold. Please make it so that we can change. At least make the progeress account bound not pirate bound. Do something. Make all get a free pirate change and then make a tooltip at character select that there is no turning back after selecting.
