More melee weapons?

  • It's been teased that stone other ones exist in dev, but what would make them fun and worth using?

    Why not a similar setup to our guns currently?

    Cutlass=pistol. Versatile, middle of the road. Charge attack lunges and stuns on hit. Hits stagger.

    Cleaver=blunderbuss. Short range powerful. Charge attack pushes foes away, stuns on hit.

    Rapier=eye of reach. Longer range, precise, more difficult to hit with [stabs instead of swings]. Charge attack strikes then leaps away. No cc on hit.

  • @krieg-jaeger I can see this concept working in the way a rock-paper-scissors game works. Cutlass beats a Rapier, Rapier beats a Cleaver, Cleaver beasts a Cutlass

    Then again.. ya don't brings a sword to a gun fight!

  • Offense should not be the only thing considered, as utility is just as important. There was an item in one of the datamines listed as a "boarding axe", for example. It could just be a different type of melee weapon, but I personally like the theory that it may allow you to remove planks from ship holes or let you axe-climb your way up a ship (instead of having to catch a ladder) whilst only providing limited offensive power (sacrificing a precious weapon slot for some utility).

  • @so-we-ate-them
    A good point! Could be interesting to have other utility weapons or items that are less effective than conventional weapons, but still offer something useful.

    @Lasher-MX
    In a sense! The cleaver would have short range, but if you can hit someone and so stun them, they won't be able to easily run away! The rapier can easily dance out of the range of other weapons....except as you point out, guns!

    In theory, getting hit with a saber or cleaver would make it very difficult (if neigh impossible) to hit what you're shooting at. Or if they just reduced blunderbuss damage to 90% rather than 100% at point blank.
    But using a rapier you could use the dodge at an angle to throw off their aim to boot.

  • This is something I have allready discussed on my post: https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/36320/i-want-to-be-able-to-pry-off-planks-from-boarded-holes-an-idea-for-having-more-ways-to-sabotage-a-ship-after-boarding/52
