So we can catch animals in cages to deliver to the merchants, but wouldn't it be cool if other pirates could unlock the cages and set them loose?
Imaging someone sneaking aboard your ship and finding you have no treasure chests to loot, so they take it out on you by setting those pigs and chickens loose to run about the deck (and dive overboard) whilst you grab that last speckled red hen (my god they were a pain for me to find last weekend!)
I also want to laugh my backside off whilst a crew mate chases a squealing pig around the deck trying to get it back in it's cage!
