  • Happened to me a few times too. Makes no sense physically whatsoever.

  • @teamhilgo This is normal for a cannonball

  • It happened way more frequently this last beta.

I think a tiny bit of knock back makes sense but not to the extent that it does now... it sends you all the way across the ship and over the railing which is crazy. A nerf to this effect is probably needed :p

  • @mad-jack-ketch maybe. But the effect is way too strong. Launches you insanely far.

  • Well lets be honest, surviving a hit by a solid shot is impossible in real life so the knockback is silly anyway but if we go with the cinematic version where people get shot by a shotgun and fly 6 feet backwards through a window, lol, then even here a cannonball should not propel a man 30 feet through the air. I can deal with action movie knockback but what the OP describes is really a bit too much. I doubt it is intended. I did sometimes take a hit and barely move as well.

  • @teamhilgo Right as rain what ya say. a explosive shell like those fired from mortars and some cannon could knock a man about Abit but in game we are obviously firing solid shot. shot, like a bullet goes strait through a man tearing him apart where he stands ,not knocking him back.

  • You have no idea how much it makes me smile shooting those cannonballs and seeing the impact on the other crew when they go flying off the ship. It amuses me.

  • @mad-jack-ketch
It's the best, isn't it? Especially when you're solo against a galleon, you see a couple of them standing all ready and boom; one or two, if you're lucky, get blasted off the ship. It amuses me greatly! hahaha

  • So you are saying that the ship is too close to you for a mermaid to spawn but also too far for you to get on it. How exactly does that work? Are your teammates intentionally avoiding you. It seems like this is the only explanation. Also there is this mechanic in the game called walking. If you don't want to get knocked back just walk away form the ball. The explosion radius is very small. The knock-back is only that strong if it is almost a direct hit. You sound like you are mostly having problems coordinating with your team or dodging. Keep in mind that you can do the same thing to the enemy team. It is fair. Get good.

  • @teamhilgo Alright. Dumb and unrealistic? You want realism? Go play simulation games and stop ruining for the rest of us. I will say it as it is and if you don't like it then i'm not sorry.

  • @mad-jack-ketch this is simulation game. Also an adventure game.

And @TeamHilgo is right. Cannons balls don’t explode they are solid balls of metal lol

The knockback mechanic literally makes no sense.

  • @svetli97 he’s the helmsman. And gets shot from the helm off the ship lol. Usually hit from out of his line sight and instead of being killed is launched off the ship.

That being said it’s usually more advantageous for the remaining crew to continue fighting which doesn’t always allow them to come get their lost crew member. Yes the knock back radious is small but the effect is too powerful. Not to mention the affect being preseant makes no sense in the first place.

@teamhilgo This is normal for a cannonball

Cannonballs don't explode, they rip through things in it's path. If a ball hit you it's not going to explode and knock you down, it's going to take everything it touches with it and away from the rest of you.

I suggest you web-search that opinion real fast. Cannonballs are faaaaaar more technical than you might think. And yes... they did have cannonballs that exploded. Here is the 'for dummies' version https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cannon_projectiles

P.S. -- I am not calling you a dummie, it's just a reference to those silly self-teaching books that make some guy money but not the reader.

  • @teamhilgo normal

  • @toastywrath all he needs to do is let go of the wheel and walk back one step. The knockback is so strong when they hit the wheel so all he needs to do is be more than 1 meter away.

  • Yeah it doesn't make sense in the slightest, the cannonballs do explode because you can clearly see the explosion when it hits the ship, but it wouldn't knock you back as far as it does though, it definitely needs nerfing (not the damage or blast radius, just the knockback distance)

  • @svetli97 that requires you to see it coming in advance. That isn’t always possible.

Seems like more of an exploit than anything. Again I don’t mind the knockback but I think it’s way to strong.

  • @toastywrath this really isn’t a simulation.

  • If they don't reduce the knockback distance, I'd happily sign a petition to allow us each a length of rope to tie around ourselves and a part of the ship, so if we get knocked back, the rope will keep us on the ship 😂😂

  • @toastywrath what do you mean it is not possible to see it? what else would you be looking at.

  • Ok the issue isn’t the knock back. It’s how much knockback they do. It’s ridiculous. Knocking you off the cannons or what ever your doing makes sense. And is advantageous but blowing you 15 feet backwards off the ship is too much.

  • @svetli97 do you stare at the enemy ship 100% of the fight? Especially while at the helm that’s a pretty bad idea. Not to mention while using the helm you have a pretty limited field of view.

  • Annoying to say the least. Especially Solo and cutting a lil too close to a skellie fort with the one skellie with freakish aim. First shot knocked me off the helm and overboard, no other shots hit the sloop as it kept sailing on without me.

  • @toastywrath you can look in almost every direction and the enemy ship is normally in one of the two directions that aren't blocked by the sails. you have to directions to look at. One of them is towards the enemy ship and the other is away from it. What will you chose?

  • @svetli97 your other surroundings. No idea how many times the enemy ship has crashed into islands or other stuff in the water due to paying too much attention to what our ship is doing and not their surroundings.

However that isn’t even the issue. I don’t want to remove the knock bac. It’s super advantageous to stop people from certain actions. I just don’t think it should b******u like 20 feet off the other end of the ship.

  • @toastywrath the guy steering the ship can't see in front of the ship anyways. There is nothing else to look at. Knockback is fun.

  • @svetli97 again not disagreeing that it should be there. But it’s far to powerful.

  • I had this happen by a lighting strike as well.
Realism aside, I believe the point is it's quicker to get back to the ship if you are killed than if you get knocked off.
When my sloop was stuck I was knocked off and my crew-mate was killed. My crew-mate was back on the ship before I even had a mermaid appear.

  • @teamhilgo I'd like to see a more realistic mode for this game, so that all the whiny selfish easy players stop their c**p... and open their minds to letting all player types play the SOT they would like to see.
Dam Battlefield have normal and hardcore modes. Everyone happy.

  • If a cannon ball hit hard enough target, it could cause some degree of shock wave, possibl enought to imbalance someone nearby. There's also debris to consider. A 1kg pece of wood travelling at 50mph could easily knock a man overboard at a good distance. Realism aside, i think it's really the vertical propulsion that needs to be in check. There's should never be too much vertical lift. This should be reserved for the powder kegs.
